Anyone like SUSHI???

Just because something is inexpensive doesn't mean it's bad. The only reason the $10 are more expensive is because of the name of the restaurant. The sushi looks the same, prepared in the same way, and tastes the same. I refuse to pay that kind of money for atmosphere and a name. The place I frequent is a little mom and pop restaurant, but it's still some of the best sushi I've had in the area. Granted the places out west in California you do get what you pay for. Remember I'm in Michigan, we aren't that cultured.

I understand what your saying I have eaten at several places here in ARKANSAS (god help me) but I must say that the guy who prepares sushi at our Osaka's is amazing. The Rolls are not only great tasting but decorated very well. It's rare that you find two that look similiar. We must remember that Sushi is supposed to be the art of food as the little brochure says on their table there...

If its presented well it feels everybit worth of ten dollars...;)

$6-$10 is still a rip off, every place around me sells rolls for $3-$5 depending on the type of fish. Only the fancy places will charge you $10 and they taste no different.

That's not the case over here. You're fish might be shipped regardless, but the higher prices here usually relates to how fresh the fish is from the coast.

But sushi is great and I love it regardless.
 
Sushi FTW! I generally stay away from the raw ones and mostly eat the little round rolls. I go with my uncle to a sushi buffet and I eat things that I don't even know what they are, I think its better that way:dopey:.

You mean Sashimi by the "raw" ones. Sushi traditionally uses raw fish as well, just so you know. And in my opinion, it's not real sushi if the fish had been cooked... more of a California roll like deal then.

All of ours is shipped in, but all sushi in the US has to be frozen for at least 15 hours before being served to kill off parasites to my knowledge.

I can only think of a few places around here that sell it, and to be honest, I'm not a fan. If I'm going out for fish, I'm getting it cooked Creole/Cajun style.
 
I plan on taking pictures of the rolls I consume tomorrow and posting them...I'm siked!
 
Nigiri favourites: Shiro Maguro (Albacore), Uni (Sea Urchin) preferrably from Mendocino rather than Santa Barbara, Saba or Aji (Spanish or Japanese Mackerel or Shad), Ama-Ebi (Sweet Shrimp) which is usually presented as raw shrimp tails garnished with a little Tobiko (Flying Fish Roe) and then the deep fried tempura battered heads are also brought out, which you can eat all of, legs, brains, shells, eyes etc! Mmmmmmm :drool:
Also love to get Ikura Uzura No Tamago (Salmon Roe with Quail Egg) which is a taste, texture experience on so many levels!

itgirlxx & I go for Sushi pretty much every Sunday night, it's a treat before we have to go back to the daily grind on Mondays!
 
Does eel have a very distinctive flavor??? out of all of the sea creatures found in sushi I have yet to try eel...I plan to tomorrow whats good?
 
I like sushi lots. For lunch, I go to a local rotating sushi bar where the quality isn't great, but it's FAST (you literally sit down, grab a plate as it passes by and chow down).

For dinner, I go to a more expensive restaurant with better quality fish, and a better selection.

Honestly, I'm not that picky and am just fine getting some cheaper stuff faster.
 
I am a sushi man! Specially Nigiri with some wasabi (kill germs). Eel probably the best choice for those who prefer cooked fish, but I prefer raw fish because it is so tender. Try raw squid and you will be in heaven. Usually I go to a Japanese restaurant operated by Japanese, those ingredients are the best. Not a fan of those Chinese operated all-you-can-eat-crappy-sushi.

Eel nigiri is sweet from the sauce they put on it. The texture of it is like a cross between a mushroom and fish. It's pretty distinctive though. Once you try one you'll know what I mean.

I love to eat sushi sometimes, but it gets pretty old very fast. Not to mentioned it cost a lot to eat 1 plate of sushi..... :grumpy: My favorite has got to be the Tamagi (egg?) and the fish egg roe (or whatever its called) and having Chicken Teriyaki is quite delicious and satisfying.... 👍
 
I like sushi, but I like sashimi even more. My favorite used to be tuna, but I prefer salmon a little more now.

P.S. I'm totally down with california rolls, too. :drool:

My nigiri... it is indeed Salmon. I usually know my nigiris, but I can't tell if yours is salmon or shrimp.
 
I love sushi, but rarely eat out at sushi places - usually because atleast someone in the party doesn't like it, there isn't a decent place nearby, or people are hungry and want more food for their money.... I went to a place in London once with some friends from work and my mate Lee wasn't impressed, and left the restaurant "still hungry". We went to the pub after, but Lee had to go to the nearest shop first "to get some money out". When he failed to reappear after a few minutes, we went back to the shop to get him, and he was standing outside stuffing his face with a sandwich!
 
I smell stinky fish.
