And please dont post "the gt90 is ugly, the gt90 is slow, the gt90 sux"

This is because I've heard it all before, check the site and learn the facts.

It was ok I guess... seemed like a lot of hype and a lot of broken dreams at the time like the Indigo. Impractical. I didn't like the shape much either.

I really don't like the Indigo either, considering most people connect it closely with the Ford GT90. The Indigo just looked ultra stupid. The GT90 looked like a futuristic space mobile, but the Indigo is hard to put a label on.

Hate the Ford GT90, too many triangles.
Ford need to learn that triangles, when used in an overtly featuristic way, look bad. AU Falcon, Ka, Old Focus... (worst interior ever)...

Ford are the masters of ill-advised and unrefined styling directions.

If you would have checked my site, you would have learned that the terminology for "triangles" as you put it, is actually Ford's 'New Edge' design, which is explained on my site.

You knew enough though to know that it was used throughout Ford's product line, including the Ka, Focus, Couger, etc.

Circles and ovals worked well for them in the Ford Taurus.

Try the site later, posting it's probably reached it's bandwith limit. I hate having it free hosted, but, I ain't got the money for web hosting.

The site is down, so for those who don't know the GT90 and the idiocy of Ford gaze at these:

I'll admit I do like the look of it from dead straight as in the last picture but any other angle and it is a horrible design. Good thing they left it in the past and brought out the GT based on the GT40 design, much smarter move.

spoiler raised

Since the site in the first post is down, I really like the look of that car so far. 👍
The Ford Taurus comment made me laugh.

So Ford tried to make an IRL car for the road in the Indigo? I've never been able to come round to the looks of the Indigo, but the equipment underneath is impressive.

6.0 liter V-12
Reynard Indy Car transaxle
Indy style suspension
and lots of carbon fiber and glass fiber.

Impressive spec : YES
Looks to match: NO

im sorry, i dont like it at all, the ford gt looks alot better, is the gt90, 90 inches off the ground? coz the gt40 was 40 inches high, and that's where it got it's name from

It was indeed, 90 inches tall.

I cried when I first read about the GT90 in a little Pocket Supercars book, when I was much younger because at that time the McLaren F1 was the fastest car (screw the Koenigsegg and Veyron, the McLaren actually has good looks as well as power) anyway back to topic. In my pocket supercars book it stated the top speed for the GT90 as being 1mph faster than the F1. I was so angry when I saw that some jumped up Ford P.O.S might be faster than a British car.

Now looking at that site GVan posted, it states the F1 is 240mph over the GT90 est.235mph.
Damn Veyron is about 253mph according to supercars.net, I bet with some tuning/tweaking the McLaren could equal if not beat that.

240mph wasn't even a target when Mclaren designed the F1.

The V12's at 90 degrees, perhaps?

from wikipedia:
The GT90's 48 valve V12 unit was built from two Ford Duratec V6 engines, cut and welded together, with a custom make crankshaft. The result was a six-litre engine that Ford reckoned could produce up to 900 bhp (671 kW)

a guess figure of 900bhp, maybe thats was the reason for the GT90 name. Others say maybe the idea was conceived in the year 1990. Only god, and the people that worked on her know the real reason.

EDIT: site is now working for me. Very informative, good site about the car.

 Your kidding right???? You realize 90 inches is taller than any member on this board? That 90 is not the inches.

That is the most reasonable anwer IMO. Im sure some one can dig up the correct answer.

I'm mostly wondering.. DID the GT40 actually ever get out and do more than 40 Mph ?.. Did they ever give it a good solid beating around a track ?.. Or was it just another pretty poster for a car show ?...

Its been tested quite a bit. So has the Ford GT40. I even have an hour long video of them building and racing the Ford GT40 off of the discovery channel or one of those channels.

Camaroboy, just found something else that relates to the name;

from 21stcentury.co.uk/cars/ford_GT90.asp
Ford named this vehicle to hint at the inspirations of it's design, namely the highly sucessful GT40 road / race car of the 1960's. Similar in that both cars are very low, mid-engined two-seaters with fantastic performance potential. However, there the similarities end.

Short of emailing Ford or a former Ford employee who worked on GT90, I don't think we'll find out. It could just be a number that sounds good, or rolls off the tongue well.
and 90 doesnt related to the possible production run. Apparently before Ford decided to keep it as a one off, they were gonna produce 100 examples.

I know the GT has been tested to death - after all, it's out in the wild. But I'm asking about the GT90 ?... Have you ever seen an hour long building / testing program on that one ?....

I think it's nothing more than a pretty poster...

Oh you said GT40 in your other post so I thought you meant GT40. I have no idea about the GT90.
