Apple Compressor Help

Hey guys, i've just recently purchased a Hauppauge HD PVR and am trying to edit in Final Cut Pro 7. My current file format is in 720p (1280x720) as a .mp4 and has an AAC audio format. When I import the file to FCP it seems to be fine. But then when I try to play it to mark in and out points, it says "General Error" then "Out of Memory." I took this to the internet and google, it appears that this is a common error with .mp4 files. So I tried converting the video in compressor but, i've given up about 4 times because it says that it will take days to complete. I've tried about 4 different file types and get the same long conversion times. My computer is fairly new (July) and should be able to convert a 20 minute 1.2 gb video pretty easily. Any suggestions? My computer specs will be below.

Specs;
- 15 inch Macbook Pro
- 2nd Generation 2 GHz i7
- 4 GB Ram
- AMD Radeon HD 6490M 256 mb graphics card

I normally encode my game play in MP4 with 4GB ram and have no issues.

Video: AVCHD@4.1
Audio: AAC
Video Bitrate: Quantizer 12~18
Audio Bitrate: 196kb/s

I take it this "Out of Memory" error is with final cut pro.
Being a Mac your video editing options should not be limited as macs are made for this sort of thing.

I use aviDemux to do some of me encoding, simple to use and can be used on a mac.

Download 2.5.3, unless you are up for the alpha/beta build version which is 2.6.0.

Try it, it may crash but if it works it is a win for you.
