Really? Although it's plausible they got apple to right some data software, I would of thought there were better free alternatives.
i guess it's just his personal taste, and got no impact on the development of gran turismo, since the developer tools are all from sony (or should be).
i've read in interviews, somewhere, sometimes, that he is an apple fan – i was just guessing for the sake of the icon origin. to back up my claim, google "kazunori yamauchi office":

Apple Display, Powermac G5, and right behind him is the frame of a Powerbook G4 (tough call, but i owned one for four years and i'm betting it's one)

not yamauchi's office, but there's a pile of apple packaging in this pic.
However if they wanted specific software quickly then maybe employing apple was a good idea. They wouldn't of gone with microsoft and open office would mean they would need to get it to work themselves.
i don't believe the feature illustrated in the screenshot got anything to do with apple or any apple product/technology. what probably happened was something like this:
programmer: "we have feature x ready, and need an icon to implement it into the menu, but the user interface guy/department says they're busy/on holiday/at the bar. what should we do?"
kaz: sighs, opens a new window on his mac, navigates to the application folder since there are lot's of different icons, finally points on apple works "just use this until the user interface guys are avaible/back from hokkaido/sober."
