This problem has cropped up over the last 7-10 days. It only seems to happen in the GT4 photomode competition forum, if i view a thread then it loads the pics fine (according to my toolbar) then i scroll down then it freezes, the hourglass comes up and BT Yahoo Browser stops responding.

This happens about 85% of the time. I can view other threads without problems.

I haven't changed anything on my pc that i could think would affect this.

Can you give a try with IE, or with Firefox? What I think is happening, is that an image that was posted recently is overloading your CPU and it is taking a long time to process. Open your task manager and check what process is taking up all the ram and CPU power when you open the thread.

Give those two options a try and let us know if there is something odd.

Well it happend in IE, though it didnt happen as often. The cpu usage jumps up to 100% from 2%. I forgot to look at the processes, ill do it again in a minute.

I looked at the processes, there is nothing else using any (measurable) cpu. The cpu percentage is 100% for the internet explorer proccess.

The images in the threads are taxing your processor to its limits.

Time to upgrade?

Yeah, that sounds like your computer may not be up to the task of handling such a thread. There's really nothing we can do.

Well i would have thought that my:
AMD Athlon 2800
512MB of ram
6600GT

would be able to cope with a few pictures, it was fine up untill a week ago. I can manage to run half life 2 at near to full options.

btw i just tried it again and untill the point that it stops responding the cpu usage is minimal, even when loading the thread.

edit: I can open all the threads in the photomode forum without problem, its just the photomode comp forum.

I just clicked into that forum, and nearly all of the posts contain an image. Some are fairly large.

Might it be your internet connection?

I'm thinking that your computer may timeout the connection before all the images load.

The computer stats seem fast enough, so I'm thinking that is the other option.

Im on a 1.1meg broadband connection.

Ill leave it for a bit and see if it goes away as suddenly as it arose. If not ill try a system rollback.

Hmmm. Could you provide a link to a thread in particular that crashes your machine? Everything loads fine for me in IE in the competitions forum.

INteresting development. The problem doesnt seem to be occuring any more. Ive bin through about 20 comp threads with no problem.

Thanks for your assistance, if anything starts again ill be back.
