OK, so last night I see this story on the local news.
Car Powered by Water A Reality
So, I thought I would throw it at you guys and see what you think. They actually sent the investigative reporters to check out if the guy is telling the truth or not. It has a video link for the actual segment on the site.

Then just as a background for the technology here is the company's Web site that I found today.

If this works and goes public like he claims it would be cool but I have heard this so much that I am inclined to call a BS. I will have to wait and see the second part tonight to see if this is being taken serious or not.

Since I am not very well informed in complex physics and chemistry I don't know how plausible this really is. I know enough to know that taking hydrogen out of water is supposed to be too expensive to actually pull off as an alternative fuel source.

What do you guys think?

Isnt this the thing where they convert water to hydrogen to use as fuel etc using electrolysis? electrolysis being a very energy consuming process in itself!

am i right?

Right, that was basically my initial reaction, but he is not proposing you can run your car on 100% hydrogen, yet. He isn't even pouring water into the car, but into the generator and then switching on an injector in his car to use the stored product as an additive, hence the "sort of" in the title. Their goal is to eventually make this work with 100% Aquygen, but they acted kind of fuzzy on those details.

The only reason why I was asking for opinions on this was because it was actually covered by a legitimate news outlet, not an auction on Ebay so I thought this might be something real.

That's what it sounds like but they are making it sound cheaper and easier to make than other gases used in torches, such as acetylene. As I said in my initial post, this sounds like BS, but I was hoping someone who knows more than I do could look at it and see if they have something new going on.

If you actually watch the video the machine that processes it is about the size of a three-drawer filing cabinet.

They tested this on mythbusters with a small, gas tank sized container of water and electricity, and it didn't work. They got it started, but it was because of residual fuel in the engine.

Has anyone read the actual story or watched the video? You aren't pouring water into the car, you are using the gas after it is made and it is currently a gas-"Aquygen" hybrid.

Well, apparently it was credible enough so that the US army is giving it a try on a Hummer H2.

According to that they have a lot of people interested in them, including the car makers.

They also claim to have a working prototype of a full Aquygen lawnmower.

I'm still skeptical. I would have an easier time with this story if they didn't use the reporter that got beat up by a 5 foot nothing businessman runinng a pyramid scam. He hasn't been taken seriously in this town since.

I'll never be as impressed with cars like these after watching Top Gear's Cow Manurer (sp) car.

Cool idea though, I say.
