Japanese arcadegoers have been unwittingly risking life and limb (well limb, certainly) when playing an Arm Spirit arm wrestling arcade game. Altus, the cabinet’s manufacturer, has reportedly had to recall all 150 machines after complaints that the machine’s mechanical hand has broken three players’ arms.

It is not clear whether these were separate incidents or simply one misunderstood arm wrestling machine that finally had enough and flipped out, assaulting three young punks who were giving it lip, before going down amidst a hail of gunfire from passing security mechs. Okay, I might have a rather warped view of what Japan is like – it’s probably all these video games I keep playing.

Despite Atlus issuing a recall for all the other machines, its spokesperson didn’t have a lot of sympathy for the injured, saying that "even women should be able to beat it." Ouch.

But that does not fit the whole point of a video game does it.
