no, the one he was talking bout in real life. he said that went to 60 in first. if he was talking about 60 km/h the yes, ok. but he went to 60 mph in first most here find it unbelievable.

That would mean he switched from MPH (referring to the Civic in GT3) to KPH (referring to to the Civic IRL) without specifying either.
:odd:

Very wishful thinking, but I can appreciate you giving him the benefit of the doubt.
:)

yeah well, i dont really know much about cars so giving ppl the benefit of the doubt is better that calling them liars hey? :)
especially when i dont know better.

LOL. How loud was the noise of the rod blowing through the block? Yea in real life the civic si stock hits mid 15s. The Civic type r in real life runs alot faster stock than it does in the game. Modified I have seen integras, civics, and del sols hit 10 and under. If you buy a 2000 civic si for about 9 grand and put about another 5 or so in it, you can hit 11s easy, but good luck doing that in the game. And also, you can turbo charge or go N/A on any car, but in the game you cant. The game is wrong in a lot of areas but it is still more realistic that any other game out there. I cant wait to see what GT4 has in it.

They made a 2.2 liter vtec motor, its in the 96prelude.

Yea I dont know where he was from but if you live in the us, and your buddy went on ebay and got a jdm cluster, it wouldnt even have mph on it, and it would be very easy to mix it up. People in the us do it all the time, jdm clusters look alot cooler that usdm.

How about we agree that in any car outside of a high end Ferrari, McLaren, Lamborghini or some other supercar, it's practically impossible but certainly not WISE to try and do 60 in first?

And don't triple post Cutless :p

maybe he meant 0 - 60 feet in 1st gear?

The only car I know that off-hand that can do 60 mph in first gear is Cobb Tuning's "Conebasher" WRX. That's how it can do it in 1.9 seconds, but of course it's not stock; it has a custom gear box. There's probably a couple supercars that can hit 60 mph in first also. No way a Civic...ANY kind of Civic can do that without some insane mods.

Hmmm...

I'm gonna have to fall on the side of a civic not being able to reach 60 in first gear.

For some reason I just don't buy that at all.
I mean, my sister's vtec integra 98 or 99 model couldn't even come close to that, and that was a vtec.

With 5 gears, and first gear going to 60+, I would think that the civic si would top out around 150.
Does it?
I don't think so.

But hey, I will give everyone the chance to defend themself...

So I have gotta ask...

What is it's top speed?

You know, forget it, I am gonna go look all this up on motor trend's website...
back soon with a link hopefully. :trouble:
edit:
Base statistics about power and drivetrain.
5 speed.
160hp @ 6,500
2,744 lbs (Im guess that is 1247kg)

Nothing too special if you ask me...
I think that would equal a 7.793 pwr.

But it's cool man, I don't mind the story. ;)
However, I bet the civic si is still something of a fun car to drive.

Still faster than my camry.

my friend has a 1998 contour svt with a street flight turbo kit and it gets roughly mid 13's. has roughly 290-300hp to the wheels!!!! car orginally has 195hp at the crank, so with power loss is roughly 170-175hp to the wheels. He also has an exaust that gives him roughly 15-20hp and some other good stuff, I wish they would this car in the game, maybe it's because I myself own one, but I don't have $7500 to put a turbo on it, but stock my car does mid 15's lower 15's. partly because you have to shift into 3rd to get past 60.... O well, I love it and it handles like a beamer.

oh yea, by the way, that car can't reach 60 in first gear, it's not a rotary engine, let's be serious.

[Thread hijack] Is your friend a CEG member? [/thread hijack]

As for 0-60 in first gear in a Civic, yes, some of them can. I could hit 55 in mine before I would shift (a tad shy of redline). I had a 91 Civic Si with the DOHC 1.6 (B16B engine? I forget) and it had some nice get up and go in first gear. The other gearing sucked though. Exactly the opposite of my Contour which has a super short 1st gear to compensate for the lack of torque and decent gearing from 3rd to 5th.

We both are members, that's weird hahaha. I honestly didn't think those cars could do that in first gear. That's kinda cool. What is your name on the boards?

B16B? thats a civic type r engine, hella rare in the states. And its not the stock motor fot a 91 even a 91 si, the 91 si had a SOCH, vtec engine, unless you swapped it for the ctr, which would cost a grip, you couldnt hit 60 or even 50, the rod stroke ratio on any honda motor wouldnt let you get that high, the most is 40-45 in first.

Oh yea, it handles like a BIMMER not a BEAMER

Yep, that was the one. I actually got it from a Canadian auto wrecker. Go figure. There are a couple of stateside sources for the B16B as well. It isn't all that powerful, 130HP compared to 105 or so for the Stock Si motor. Much better throttle response and torque curve though.

Too bad it crapped out after only a year. Damn second hand engines.

infintemethod, I am Beowulf on the CEG boards. And yes, the 'tour handles as good as or better than some Bimmers (Beemers are BMW motorcycles). I have driven enough BMW's to know. It kicks the rear end of any 3 series. Well, maybe not the M3.

My mistake on the beamer beemer bulls#hit. yea, these cars are awesome, i just a short throw shifter i'm going to put in soon.

So what is your CEG member name? And your friends?

BMW's are OK, but I would prefer a S4 or one of the new Volvo S40's if I was purchasing a European performance sedan.

The compression is what makes it such desired engine, or at least parts of it. The ctr is a cool motor, but if I had one I would just keep the pistons and cams. Maybe put those in a GSR motor. I like the 1.8s better anyways. You got a 3 series Taowulf? Me to, hope its an e30

So if a Civic can go 60 in first how fast can a Ferarri go in first? An F1 car? Sheesh. Must be somthing like 150 or something. I mean, these Civics must be able to go at least 200 miles an hour since first gear winds out faster than any gear and accounts for the smallest increase in speed of all the gears unless your tansmission is totally screwed up.

I call BS.

I never owned one, but I used to drive a lot of Bimmers in a job I used to have. Mostly 3 series, some 5 series and a couple of times a 7 series. I would drive several a week as the shop I worked for was the only upholstery shop the local BMW dealer would use.

I once accidently redlined the hell out of a 3 series by missing a shift on a corner. Car had less than 50 miles on it when I did that too. Oops.

Call BS if you think you must. I haven't had the car for almost 2 years, so it would be difficult for me to prove. Sorry.

infintemethod, I dont recall your name, but the name kontofosho is definitely familiar. I love those SVTs! It is nice to see other Contour owners on this board. I know Garconis owns a pre-98 as well.

mabey he was going down a hill in 1st without his foot on the gas then you could do a 0-60 in 1st gear

please forgive me if this has already been posted, I searched but did not find anything about it... I noticed today that the cars in GT3 seem "neutered" compaired to their real life counterparts. I drove my friend's Civic Si today (stock), and when I got on it just a little bit, she took off like a bat out of hell. I hit 60 before shifting into 2nd. Now I was just playing GT3 and was driving the Civic SiR, and this thing doesn't compare AT ALL. It just lurches off the line, slowly cruises up to 30 mph, which is where i had to shift. Now I understand that they are 2 different models (Si and SiR) but to me that difference jsut seems way too severe, considering their both stock. The specs in the game say that the SiR has 15 ft/lbs of torque... that seems awfully low to me. is there something I can do to fix this? Thanks

a stock Civic Si....fast? I don't think so.

Even when you go downhill, the engine revs rise in unison with the speed, if he used first towards the red then just put the clutch in and coasted on momentum, there'd be a vague hope, but otherwise, the engine would scream and the fuel cut in would activate.

Not actually understanding the inner workings of a gearbox would be my downfall here. Thanks.

lol, its like people say gas pedal, when the gas is controled by the injectors, or carb. The right pedal just opens up the throttle body and lets in air, the gas is controled by a computer. The right pedal's name should be changed from "gas pedal" to trottle or air pedal.

Fortunately, or perhaps unfortunately in some instances, you don't need to be able to distinguish in order to drive a car.
