Are replays cleaned up?

Hi
I have noticed that when you replay a race the car seems to keep a cleaner and tidier line than I remember driving. has anyone else noticed this? Do you think it is done deliberately to make us feel better about our driving, lol.

Perhaps it's down to an effect you can get in digital music owing to the sample rate. Maybe it records location points rather than the entire action of the car causing a smoother look to the car between the location points and averages out the cars movement losing all the little shuffles and wobbles I remember from when driving

Replays are literally the game starting a new race but with automated control inputs it recorded when you actually raced. In other words, the replay doesn't record video, it records your controller inputs (as well as the locations, etc of other cars) and then simply plays the race again from a different camera angle and using your recorded inputs.

Sometimes if there is some bad code or a bug somewhere it can lead to the replay looking nothing like the original race, such as cars turning off into gravel traps, etc.
So, it sounds to me like either the PS3 skipped a bit or you managed to find a piece of code or track position that effects the recording of the input. Or you're just forgetting what a good driver you are ;) :p
I doubt it records point positions because its far easier to record the inputs, which you can record into double float lengths easily. There may have been some error loss somewhere though, which would cause the PS3 to skip the number a bit because of rounding, but this wouldn't make it look tidier  it would cause it to be jumpy and cause further inaccuracies down the line...enter chaos theory.

Ardius is spot on, the game records the inputs of you and the AI cars and simply plays a copy of the race but with the AI copying your inputs for your car rather than it being player controlled. As for the replays looking sharper, they do look better, there's more effects in place to make them look as good as possible. As a result the replays run at 30fps rather than the 60 that the races run at.

Well, I can understand fully what he's talking about. This is even in GT4. In both the classic races where I was using the Shelby Cobra and the DTM race both at Nurburgring I felt like I was on the brink of wrecking through the whole course. But when you watch the replay it looks like a leisurely stroll through the countryside. Thing your not realizing is that real life is the same way. Watch the video of the record setting laps of either the GTR or the ZR1 at Nurburgring and the in cockpit view you can see how much they're fighting it. When you see the outside views it looks like the car is gliding through every corner flawlessly. It's just preception. Or at least that's what I think it is. I was very dissapointed when I watched my replay of the DTM Nurburgring race. It was a good replay but didn't show me sweating every corner I took and kringing every time the back stepped out just a hair at neck breaking speed and on the udder edge of traction.
