They are getting easier to drive for anyone, not just for women.

Because most the really rich who can afford them arent propper car enthuasiats and most likely havent got the skill to drive these cars like the F40 so in this day and age of ambulance chaser manufacturers are softning them up.

Oh, boo. Supercars are simply becoming more livable. Surprise, surprise, if you paid a ridiculous amount for a car like that you'd expect to get something that you could drive more than twice a week without extreme back pain. I talked to a guy who had driven an F40 and an F430 (he works at the local Ferrari dealership) and he said he'd take the F430 any day. Sure, he said, the F40 was fun, but it was a bear. Just normal driving through a city felt like work. The F430 was just as fast in a straight line and could still corner well enough for him, and yet he could drive it home from the track with ease.

My dad nearly bought an F40, but instead he got on the list for an F430 Spider. Why? Sure, the F40 was faster and more pure, but he drives his Ferraris daily and you just can't do that with an F40.

Very interesting article.
I'm with daan though, these cars are getting easier for everyone.

I like that too. 👍
I'm not down with the B.S. cliches about driving.
The only thing I don't want to see on a super car is TCS, other than that I am happy to have anything from an automatic to a heavy-weight retractable hard-top. :dopey:

Cars can be whatever you want them to but in my world, I want to see a car covering several roles, not just a few specific roles.
I like super cars that are works of art and engineering, but I also like those works to be user-friendly and reliable.

As long as they aren't replacing the 6th gear with a lipstick holder, and the tach with a make up mirror that smells like Chanel no.5 thats available in 20different colours to make your eyes, I don't care.

All cars are getting easier to drive. The worst car today is easier to drive than the best car 30 years ago. Just keep the clutch pedal intact; that's all I ask.

As long as a teen girl who failed physics in 10th grade can't drive as fast as a pro driver in one of those friendly cars, I have no objections.

With the advancements in technology over the past decade or so, it has allowed the everyman to be as fast as some of their favorite racecar drivers... Ok, maybe not that fast, but having all of the technical doo-dads are making people much faster than what they would be without them.

The BMW M5 and M6 come to mind, with all the techno gizmos that make you feel like Schuey even if your name is Elanor. Of course, it may take 10-minutes to boot the car up, but you get to be faster than your neighbor in his Porsche that actually REQUIRES work! Ha ha!

...BTW: I'm not a fan of the new Bimmers, so dont let me lead you that way...

I think its mostly those expensive, luxurious cars. They are meant to to be very comfortable, so making them easier to drive is part of the goal.

Supercar manufacturers are just simply catering to their market, alongside with advances in technology. Enthusiasts of real performance cars will go for much cheaper, yet faster alternatives, such as a Caterham or a Radical (or even a Corvette Z06). The downside to those cars of course, is that they are much less friendly to drive, especially on a daily basis. So really, nowadays supercar buyers are paying mostly for a certain degree of driveability.
