I'm looking to make several shifter rods so I can change the look of my shifter when I want. I have 4 different knobs and I want to change them depending on the car in the game. I know nuts, but oblige me. :p

So where can I find a replacement shifter stalk that will fit the TH8 thread.

thanks

Mayaman I just ordered an M6 threaded rod and Coupling nut from here:

http://www.mcmaster.com/#catalog/118/3174/=jb8f77

Funny thing is I only really needed five or six inches but the shortest you can get is three feet so I do have some extra if your interested. It's not as stiff as the original stalk but fits the thread and does the job at the short length I needed. The site referenced above has different tensil strengths you can order I think if you want something stiffer.

Regards

The bare rod itself felt a little more flexible than I would have liked until I cut it down to size and attached the knob. Once threaded into the shaft there was no "bendy" feeling from the stalk.

The M6 swage referenced in another thread would be perfect but I could not find one. My local marine shop only had imperial no metric sizes. Perfect solution if you can find one (anyone know where to get an M6 swage in the States please let me know).

Regards

Gah, I'm confused as to what to look for on that website. So 6mm is M6? 8mm is not M6 or is it 8mm that has M6 threads? Someone just give me a link to buy. LOL

M8 = Metric 8mm diameter
M6 = Metric 6mm diameter
etc...

So the M stands for Metric and the number the diameter in millimeters.

OK surfing the internet for the goods! hehe

Mayaman, use this search phrase (or a variation of) in Google:

Swage Threaded Term G316 Stainless Steel 3/32 X M6

You will find many places in Australia (and on eBay.au) that have the item.

For searches in the US do a search for 'turnbuckle' vice 'swage'.

Decided to get my Tap & Die set out and double check the threads on the bottom of the shaft. The die that fit perfectly was the 6mm x 1.00 (pitch) die.

Cool thanks guys.

Just out of curiosity I wonder why anything that I ever want to order in NEVER in the USA, EVER. Anything, doesn't matter, doesn't have to be anything with sim racing. We're truly Rome in decline. :(

I'm going to try one of these with a length of 110mm (if necessary I'll add some nuts or a coupling to the end to make it wider). The threaded part on each end is 31mm (1.2") which leaves some room for shortening it and still having threads on both ends.

Lengths available for M6 x 1.0 are:

50mm
65mm
80mm
95mm (3.7")
110mm (4.3")
140mm
150mm
175mm
200mm

Good find Neo, gonna try the same size. They look to be a bit stronger than the rod I got.

Nice Neo, just about to order these. Does thread spacing matter? I'm thinking not.

According to the way they are listed these have the correct thread spacing. They list them as M6 x 1.0. I removed my shifter rod and screwed in a M6 x 1.0 bolt and it fit perfectly. These are M6 x 1.0 x 110MM (or your length of choice).

Be sure to expand the list to get to the correct item. Here's what I ordered:

M6-1 110 mm 31 mm 2 B003MW0G7A

Damn, I just noticed it says these usually ship in 2 to 5 weeks! If you are in a hurry you may want to go with a different size that is in stock.

Just checked my Amazon account and it's showing a deliver estimate of Wednesday 19 Sept. Sorry, guess I got the last one in stock for that size unless someone else has recently placed an order. Also just noticed there are two to the pack.

They are also available with "Unequal Threaded Ends", same thing but one end has more threads than the other.

M6-1 110 mm 31 x 12 mm 2 B003MW0G9S In Stock (2)

Philip Yip off of the iRacing forums has a short shift plate & bar available for the TH8RS. www.yipzone.com

As well as Derek Speare for different plates, not bars though.

Ah, I know Philip. I'll mail him thanks.

I just ordered some shift plates from him and asked about the shift rod at that time. He said he did not have any and referenced the M6 swage. You might have better luck though.

I think I'm just going to buy a couple of TH8, take the rods and then sell them cheap on Ebay. Sick of this crap. Would anyone like to buy a couple of TH8 with the shaft missing for a 20% discount? LOL

Mayaman, hold off, I should have my rods tomorrow. I'll post some pics and let you know how they work out. I ordered two sets, one set has the same threaded length at both ends and the other set has a shorter threaded length one end with longer threaded length on the other. The latter will be here tomorrow, the others will arrive Wednesday.

The short shift bar Philip Yip has is the one mentioned earlier in this post

Hard to find in the U.S. and expensive.
Hi all, Philip here. This is the exact part I bought from ebay. It worked for me (see image below) by using some washers and nut and I can't remember if I had to pad the rubber insert (which you can't see) but I think you are better off with a threaded rod and coupling. I think most after market knobs don't provide plastic inserts that fit a skinny shaft. It's easier to 'fatten' up the shaft with a threaded rod than a smooth swage.

I did enquire with an engineering workshop about a custom made shaft but they had a minimum charge of $120 so I left it at that. If someone knows someone who has the equipment... ;)
