This thread is to discuss GT5 and the PS3, and if what you've already seen has blown you away enough to want it. We can also discuss key features that will play a huge deciding factor in whether we decide to buy a Next-Gen console and the next version of the game.
I'll start with my opinions.
Currently I think GT5 is looking great, from the videos of it that I've seen. Additionally, many of the other PS3 games in development have great graphics, and with the fact that that's been said from the transition from PS1 to PS2, and the PS2 graphics from back then are now considered terrible, I could expect that graphics and optimization will get even better from release. So, for that reason I'm very likely to buy a PS3 at some point in time when they come out. However, I will not wait in an 800-person line to try to get one of 3 consoles at the local store on opening day.
As for GT5, it looks impressive so far from what I've seen, however the key features I want to see in order for me to want the game are as follows:
-- Cars: Obviously, this is one of the biggest factors for most people, there's at least one car that everybody is thinking to be missing from GT4, for me, that's the Chevrolet Cobalt SS 2dr Coupe '06. If that car is in there, it would increase my desire to buy the game.
-- New Camera Views: Everybody has seen these views hundreds of times. 1st person with just a spedometer at the bottom and 3rd person behind the car. They're getting pretty old. Very few games out there have had fully designed cockpit views, and only PGR3 for the X360 in my opinion has done a good job of that. I've heard that the PS3 will be more powerful than the 360, and with Blu-Ray, there shouldn't be a storage issue, textures might even be able to be more detailed. I would DEFINETELY want a cockpit view.
-- New Logitech Wheel: Everybody thinks that the Logitech Driving Force Pro is awesome, and it's totally undisputed that there is any better wheel on the market. However, there is room for improvement. I for one think a REAL gearbox (even if they had to make a special like, 8 gear box, that's fine!) and a slightly larger wheel design, rather than like an indy car wheel, is definitely worth the about $130 they're charging for the wheel. Compatibility for the previous wheel would also be nice, incase there isn't a new one or the new one ends up sucking.
-- Better graphics: After seeing what's on Project Gotham Racing 3, there's no way I would buy a next-gen game if it can't even approach a similarity in graphical beauty. The spinning, shiny wheels with reflections, the perfectly modeled cities with stunning textures, beautifully modeled trees which finally look almost like trees, and many other graphically beautiful features are important in my decision to buy GT5 rather than an Xbox 360 and PGR3. I already have GT4, and although I like it, I don't want to buy another one.
-- Custom track builder: Not as custom as you may already be thinking, however in PGR3, they have a custom track builder where in the cities, you can pick the route you want to go through the city when racing. If they modeled a few cities top to bottom (and just did normal tracks like in GT4 elsewhere) and let you pick the routes to go, such as if they did that in New York, LA, or a few other places, it would definitely make me want to go buy the game, though being without it wouldn't repel me from buying the game.
-- Better Physics: Physics aren't too bad already and are fairly believable, but maybe that's just because I've never driven a real car. If they were even more accurate, it would be nice
-- Car Damage: Though I may not want my beautiful car turned into a pile of junk after a race that only gives a $3,000 reward, it would be nice to add realism by having real car damage, however there shouldn't be any repair charges, since it would be challenging to pay for in the beginning when everybody's poor.
I really feel that if GT5 could pull off features like that, there wouldn't be another Racer out there that could compare. What features will be affecting your decision to go Next-Gen or not? Post with your opinions
