Are you planning on getting a PS3 and GT5?

This thread is to discuss GT5 and the PS3, and if what you've already seen has blown you away enough to want it. We can also discuss key features that will play a huge deciding factor in whether we decide to buy a Next-Gen console and the next version of the game.

I'll start with my opinions.

Currently I think GT5 is looking great, from the videos of it that I've seen. Additionally, many of the other PS3 games in development have great graphics, and with the fact that that's been said from the transition from PS1 to PS2, and the PS2 graphics from back then are now considered terrible, I could expect that graphics and optimization will get even better from release. So, for that reason I'm very likely to buy a PS3 at some point in time when they come out. However, I will not wait in an 800-person line to try to get one of 3 consoles at the local store on opening day.

As for GT5, it looks impressive so far from what I've seen, however the key features I want to see in order for me to want the game are as follows:

-- Cars: Obviously, this is one of the biggest factors for most people, there's at least one car that everybody is thinking to be missing from GT4, for me, that's the Chevrolet Cobalt SS 2dr Coupe '06. If that car is in there, it would increase my desire to buy the game.

-- New Camera Views: Everybody has seen these views hundreds of times. 1st person with just a spedometer at the bottom and 3rd person behind the car. They're getting pretty old. Very few games out there have had fully designed cockpit views, and only PGR3 for the X360 in my opinion has done a good job of that. I've heard that the PS3 will be more powerful than the 360, and with Blu-Ray, there shouldn't be a storage issue, textures might even be able to be more detailed. I would DEFINETELY want a cockpit view.

-- New Logitech Wheel: Everybody thinks that the Logitech Driving Force Pro is awesome, and it's totally undisputed that there is any better wheel on the market. However, there is room for improvement. I for one think a REAL gearbox (even if they had to make a special like, 8 gear box, that's fine!) and a slightly larger wheel design, rather than like an indy car wheel, is definitely worth the about $130 they're charging for the wheel. Compatibility for the previous wheel would also be nice, incase there isn't a new one or the new one ends up sucking.

-- Better graphics: After seeing what's on Project Gotham Racing 3, there's no way I would buy a next-gen game if it can't even approach a similarity in graphical beauty. The spinning, shiny wheels with reflections, the perfectly modeled cities with stunning textures, beautifully modeled trees which finally look almost like trees, and many other graphically beautiful features are important in my decision to buy GT5 rather than an Xbox 360 and PGR3. I already have GT4, and although I like it, I don't want to buy another one.

-- Custom track builder: Not as custom as you may already be thinking, however in PGR3, they have a custom track builder where in the cities, you can pick the route you want to go through the city when racing. If they modeled a few cities top to bottom (and just did normal tracks like in GT4 elsewhere) and let you pick the routes to go, such as if they did that in New York, LA, or a few other places, it would definitely make me want to go buy the game, though being without it wouldn't repel me from buying the game.

-- Better Physics: Physics aren't too bad already and are fairly believable, but maybe that's just because I've never driven a real car. If they were even more accurate, it would be nice :)

-- Car Damage: Though I may not want my beautiful car turned into a pile of junk after a race that only gives a $3,000 reward, it would be nice to add realism by having real car damage, however there shouldn't be any repair charges, since it would be challenging to pay for in the beginning when everybody's poor.

I really feel that if GT5 could pull off features like that, there wouldn't be another Racer out there that could compare. What features will be affecting your decision to go Next-Gen or not? Post with your opinions :)

Am I planning on getting a PS3 and GT5?...... Yes no doubt.

Three weeks ago, I bought an XBox and Forza, because the PS3 had been delayed and I was starving for a "next gen" race game. Forza on the XBox isn't quite what you'd call next generation, but it's very advanced for what it is. It's quite similar to GT4 in flavor and build, but with a distinctly different personality.

The graphics are excellent, about as good as GT4 in its own way, and I LOVE the real life color over the video camera look of GT4. The car models are plainer, but still look excellent, and they have those dreaded Porsche and Ferrrari families!

The physics is similar but different. Not having force feedback seriously hurt. I needed to learn to drive all over again. Because it lacks more than a pair of driver views, coming to grips with it is a learning experience, and I'm still learning. But I love it so far. Nurburgring is just different enough to seem like a new track.

Damage is okay. I can live without damage, but this isn't bad. Having eight cars in a race is cool, but the bots suck. Sometimes they attack you for no apparent reason, and they "rabbit" or fly off ahead of you even more than in GT4.

The track builder idea is a great one. We'll have to see about that. Nothing in Forza sadly. I think an optional footpedal for the existing DF Pro would be great, for those drifter nuts who insist on a clutch. I'd think the existing DF Pro would suffice though.

In any case, I got just a tantalizing taste of the "next gen-ness" of Forza, and it not only had me wanting so much more, but had me appreciating the brilliance of GT4 even more.

Considering that the PS3 is going to be as powerful as the beefiest gaming PC, and then some, I have little doubt that graphically, feel wise, handling wise, audio wise, car list wise, wish list wise... etc, that Gran Turismo 5 will sell a lot of PS3s. I'll have them, yes I will. ;)

I don't see any reason why I wouldn't get GT5, and I think the absolute majority of GTP members will too, so the question is kind of dispensable in my eyes, if I may be so bold. A valid qustion would perhaps be when to get the game - just when it's released, or when the PS3 has dropped under a certain price level.
But hey - this is a forum entirely dedicated to Gran Turismo. What do you think? That only a few people will buy GT5, and the rest will hang around here being told how good it is? :sly:

I will no doubt buy a PS3 and GT5.

I have to say, I once had a PSX and I had both GT1 and GT2, though I was still too young to really enjoy them, in my opinion. I sold my PSX and went some years without a console and then I got an Xbox. I considered it way better than the PS2 at the time. So then, I was quite in for a shock when I went to a friends with a PS2 and played GT3 for the first time. I was so fascinated by the game that I begged him to lend me his PS2 and GT3. Shortly before the release of GT4 I bought my own PS2, just for GT4. I do own a few other games, but even they all have to do with cars. And I have to say, none of these games stayed in my PS2 as long as GT4.

So, yes, I will buy a PS3 and GT5. But I will wait with buying the PS3 until GT5 is avaible as there are currently no other titles for it I'm waiting for.

I guess I'm alone on this (being a GT board and all), but I for one won't be getting a PS3 and GT5. I wasn't that impressed with GT4 enough to look forward to GT5. It's a great game, but coming from Forza to it, I don't like the menus, don't like how the whole oil change crap, don't like the AI, and don't lack the lack of supercars, and the lack of their supercar feel and other things.

I've been impresed with PGR3 and I plan on getting that sometime. I was more impressed with PGR2 than Forza and GT4 even thoguh I'm a sim fanatic and like to play a lot of LFS, GTR and GT Legends on my computer. I found PGR2 an amazingly lotta fun, and PGR3 basically has every car I've ever dreamed of except for the Veyron, so I'm probably gonna get that.

I don't have an Xbox 360 yet, waiting for a price drop on it when PS3 comes out, will probably get one then. Will get PGR3 then and I hope I like it as much I liked PGR2, and hopefully there will be another Forza that comes out for X360.

You're a strange guy, Mustang, when you even dislike the menu system. Oh well. ;)

Dr AK, I had a similar experience. I had been thoroughly impressed with GT 1 and 2, and especially GT2 on the Dreamcast courtesy of the heavenly Bleemcast. When GT3 came out, the monitors showing it at Best Buy were way too small to really see the graphics, and I had been playing racing games with a steering controller too long to come to terms with the PS2 handheld, so I couldn't appreciate properly what was before me.

Then a friend dragged over his PS2 and some games and hooked it up after a D&D session, and I finally saw GT3 in all its glory. Oh my lord. The physics were so much more advanced, and the graphics were unbelievable. Replays looked like Speed Channel video. It was the game that got me to buy a PS2, like Forza was the game that got me to buy an XBox, and I never did buy a PSOne.

The question of whether to get a PS3 at launch is interesting. I know there will be lots of titles I'll want for the beast, like Sonic, Devil May Cry 4, Resident Evil 5 and so on, but the one I'm really hankering for is Gran Turismo 5. But I'll probably preorder one when preorders become available. The XBox360 is another matter. Nothing impresses me at all with its game lineup, so hopefully E3 will have some news I want to hear. As much as I despize Microsoft (and Sony too), I'd like to support the game division.

To answer the original question, yes, I buying a PS3 and GT5. I think the word "duh" is applicable.

But I'd like to point out that we haven't seen GT5 yet. All we've seen is GT4 running on a PS3 dev kit. That's not GT5.

In 3 years or so..yes, I'll get myself one.

Last part of the off topic then this is over: Fag shouldn't be against the AUP cause it means

Fag: A student at a British public school who is required to perform menial tasks for a student in a higher class.

If the mods don't want it to be used they can just sensor it.
Since it also has a ofensive slang term as a homosexual man, but that's not what it's real definition.
Fag is also somthign that firefighters used in 1900's

EDIT: Also i had to change my sig.... the quote about the crazy brits

Yes, and it's also a cigarette.

If I were to say "Master_Yoda is a fag" or "Master_Yoda is gay", which context of either word would leap to the forefront of your mind?

Fact is, it attracted complaint. The decision was that it was against the AUP and Cosmic was asked to change it - a request with which he complied with due diligence.

Your input on this issue is, of course, welcomed. However complying with the AUP is a condition of membership here. If you feel strongly enough then by all means make a motion to change the presence of any particular word in the AUP via the Site Feedback forum.

And now we are through this, can we get back to the topic at hand, please?

(and yes, I expect someone will be making a sig out of part of the above)

Uh, duh.

I love the GT series, and the PhotoMode still reigns supreme in its replay value (totally better than PGR3's).

Well in addition to wondering if you're planning on getting the game, I was interested in discussion regarding GT4 vs. GT5, basically any features or additions to the game that might be mandatory in your decision as to whether or not to get GT5... Basically, what you want to be different in order for you not to feel you're buying the same game over again, like some felt when they bought GT4 after GT3.

If it has damage, larger grids and AI that doesn't smack into the back of you on every corner, I won't hessitate, if it doesn't have any of thoes things I'll buy it, but not straight away. If it has bigger grids and better AI I'll buy it straight away, but I will wonder why Kaz said damage would be in but didn't deliver, again.

you know, i find that regardless, ill be buying the PS3 eventually. prices would be the only thing keeping me from buying. GT5 would be amazing on the PS2 but with blue-ray tech and a more powerful chip(s) would make it even more amazing. im a yes

and for damage, thatd be hard to do but if they could get all of the lisences to do so, it would make GT5 even better and more challenging.
tracks, make em and if they could have a custom track editor, im game

I'll keep this short:

I'll buy a PS3, but only when GT5 is released.

The bots suck!?! They're 20x better than GT4. They never ram me in the corners or in the back when braking (but they did ram me twice off the starting line though, but that wasn't much). And they fly off ahead because the car that flys off is faster than the rest of them.

ANYway, I'll be getting GT5 for sure, but I'll be getting a PS3 at that time too.

I'll definitely get the PS3 and GT 5 whenever they first become available.

Mr Quack, my experience is VERY mixed, but the bots in Forza tend to go at me even though I drive clean.

If I get a good launch they hate me.

If I'm close to them at a turn they ram me.

If I'm holding them up, if they don't rabbit past me, they push me off the road. No matter what.

You can have the Forza bots. They're probably all drug dealing Need For Speed teenagers anyway. :indiff:

Yes, I will.

Bought PS1 just for Gran Turismo 1.
Bought PS2 just for Gran Turismo 3.

All my games are GT Related.
GT1, GT2, GT3, Concepts, GT4, Prologues, Demos (hopefully GT4O too), in several versions and languages.

Also bought Tourist Trophy Japanese right now and already waiting for "readable" TT with comfortable LATIN/WESTERN characters.

I will buy a PS3 the day that PD announces release date for GT5. For me that is the only game that made the console a good deal.

I too bought a PS1 for GT1 - and a PS2 for GT3....

The Xbox console and titles have never interested me much, GT4 on the PS2 for me is fantastic, I can forgive the bad points because it does so much right.

I will not buy a PS3 straight away, I will wait for the price to come down a bit and to see if there are any issues that need straightening out first, then, when details of the next GT sim are available I will go purchase for sure.

Dave
