I know alot of people don't like many car makes (specifically American makes such as Ford). Many people say this is because American cars are made cheaper and from cheaper parts, and result in a short life-span. But I know a few people who own Fords. Someone I know someone that owns a Ford Probe and floors it alot and neutral drops it once in a while and it has over 100,000 miles. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it, the only big thing that happend to it was he needed to get a new water pump. I really like Ford Probes and Ford Contours and am considering them as one of my first cars. What is everyone elses opinions on this? :odd:

FORD skimp on too many parts
owned:
1975 F-250 -Problem: Blown Engine
1982 Fairmont -Problem: Blown Head gasket
1986 Aerostar -Problem: Blown Head gasket
1992 Mercury Sable- Problem- Blown Head gasket

I blew the head gasket on my sable three times within a year, taking it to the dealership to have it replaced.
The third time i replaced it myself, I found out the reason it kept happening was that the heads were warped

If i could see they were warped, you'd think the ford dealership would know too

This is why im not a Ford fan, but i have a friend who owns a Focus and he drives the **** out of it and it has had no problems.

I know what you mean speedkrazy!! I dont understand how people can like one type of cars (ie. american) and then say others are complete crap (ie. japanese), there are great american cars and great japanese cars! but people insist on arguing to the death about how one is all mighty and the other is complete junk, its ok not to like a type of car, but to throw out insults at it is stupid, it bothers me even more when its uninformed, i'll use an example: today at school i was talking to my freinds about my new (used) car, when this kid over hears me talking about it, (he drives "riced" out honda civic) and he starts laughing because its a Volvo, and he says to me "volvos are slow boxy pieces of s**t" so he goes on telling his buddys about my "slow" car and they all start laughing, so I tell him to put his money where his mouth is, and chalange him to a drag race, winner gets $20 (now I dont usally go out looking for a race like the F@sT N FuRIoUS yO!) so he accepts, and lets just say I actually afford to buy my lunch today! so back to what i was saying, get the info before you run tour mouth...or wait .....dont bet money on stupid things...no thats not it, what was the moral of the story again?

Ferrari, Ford, GM, Dodge, Honda, Toyota, and Mitsubishi. I hate them all. Give me a Citroen any day of the week.

Actually, I don't like Ferrari or Ford.

I am not a fan of Toyota's lower models (aka everything toyota excluding lexus). I could just never see myself wanting or owning any of them. (except lexus).

I'm also not a big fan of dodge, for similar reasons, but they seemed to get it right with the srt4. But....I could never own one.

The supra doesnt excite me at all, and Ive driven a Mk4 NA...and it was a royal pain in the ass. I didnt enjoy it and it felt like a hog. Tack the price on to it, and it deters me even more. The MR2 before the current one I could probably find myself liking if I got a chance to try it out, but that wont be happening anytime soon, and the current models....bleh. Their price? Double bleh.

Can't say I hate any car manufacturers. I may dislike a few models though (Aztec, Element, I also don't see the big deal behind the new GTO) but to hate an entire car make would be a little much.

I dislike the majority of stuff ford makes, although it isn't 'racism' really, I don't like their cars because I don't like them, not because I have something against ford. Every one I've been in or driven has just been so... bleh. My parent's Explorer destroyed its head gasket twice and was almost through a third one by the time they sold it, it was on its fourth clutch, had the transmission rebuilt once, headed new heads once... and it only had 118k miles!

I wouldn't mind trying out an Escort GT though.

That's interesting retsmah. My first car was a 98 explorer, and I loved the thing the to death. We never had any problems with it at all. The mustang on the other hand....gah, dont even get me started.

I'm a firm believer in the whole, "To each his own." theory. I don't really care what kind of car it is, as long as it's fast and has decent looks. I hate bulky, ugly, weak cars. Ex. Recent Mustangs, give us the sexy 1970 Mustang.

Edit: Noticed this sounds like a Ford diss, well it isn't it was the first thing that popped in my head.

I take note of "trends" and I dislike individual cars I don't like the look of, or general reviews of (although some cars which get awful revews I quite like - like the original 230 Renaultsport Clio V6... Crap to drive and always being repaired).

But just because a company has a bad rep, doesn't me an individual car will need regualr visits to the hospital - or even not. I've heard of MG Rovers soldiering on no matter what. I've heard of Mercs which won't even start for 6 months...

Oddly, it's mainly Americans who dislike Fords... I like Fords quite a bit, but European Fords tend to be better screwed together than American ones. Which is odd...

About the only manufacturer I hate is Buick, but that is because they make crappy cars. I've never heard of someone who said they liked a Buick made in the last 20 years. I also used to hate Kia, but I've come around on them since they build decent cars for the price.

I also don't know why people put down Ford, especially for reliability. My dad's '93 Explorer has never had a problem with the engine (unless you count a dead battery).

Im surprised how Lada have yet to be mentioned. And skoda. But skoda are starting to turn it around now so I'll shut up.

i dis like a few models. most of the new honda line is disapointing,in the terms of stlye, actually the new gauge cluster makes me mad.well i hate pretty much all of the new gauge clusters. why are the companys trying to make the inside of cars look like spaceships?! but i do like my 97 accord, never really had any problems. also i am sort of "racist" against Eagle. they remade the eclipse and called it a talon. why? i dont know. its not like you cant get eclipses in america. also i had a friend with a talon who made a big deal about it and affectionatly called his "lady bird" and "tizzy". it doesnt matter anymore because he totaled it.

I go on what I know.

I know I haven't ever driven a Vauxhall that I liked.
I know I haven't driven a Fiat I've liked.

That's about it.

It has been said an awful lot of times that Ford (and all American makes for that matter) are made from cheaper parts and are much more poorly built then other car makes such as Honda (which are expected to live up to 200,000 miles from what I hear). The only Honda I ever really liked were Preludes and Integra Type R's. Oh ya, and of course NSX. I can't stand seeing civics all the time, that's the only car I don't care about. Also, it shouldn't matter what kind of car you buy. Learn to fix it and you'll save a ton more money. Besides, I LOVE ford contours and like ford probes alot. The only name brand i can think of that are horrible is all DSM's (Mitsubishi and Eagle). My brother has a Eagle Talon and the engine gave out only 10 days after he bought it! Bogus huh?

Have them drive a '87 Grand National and you can get back to me on that...
