Are you satisfied with how the cars sound in-cockpit now?

We already have a thread on the updated sounds that the 1st August update brought us, but I thought this would be nice to have a poll on - just to get a clear picture of what people think on this subject.

I like that cars in front of you with aftermarket exhausts make a lot noise now - even though I think it might have been overdone just a little. This new "feature" has received a lot of criticism, while others say it's realistic.

The new blow-off valves-sounds are another subject. I personally haven't been in a car with BOVs, but it seems some blow-off valves are designed to make that distinct sound, like they do in the Mine's, while others haven't. It could also be because the turbo is being loaded with a larger pressure, I don't know. Anyway, having the Mine's to compare with, the BOV-sound is still a little feint, and maybe not "fat" enough.

The reason I don't like the cockpit-sound (and I dislike it almost enough to stop using it, eventhough I really want to) is the way they have simulated the acoustics. The sounds are so harsh and kind of flat. I know there's a lot of noise at these speeds, but the sounds in-cockpit are not very full-bodied in my opinion. I like the sounds in all other views though!

As for the poll it's a little hard to poll all variables, but I've decided it would be good to include at least whether or not the person is using a surround-system.

Let me know what you think.

Summary, 12 August
With surround:
Code:
I like them a lot!: 13 48%
I like them: 10 37%
I dislike them: 4 14%
---
Total votes: 27 100%
No surround:
Code:
I like them a lot!: 4 19%
I like them: 14 66%
I dislike them: 3 14%
---
Total votes: 21 100%

It seems there's the same amount of people who don't like the sounds whether or not they play the game with a surround system.

It also shows that without a surround system the amount of people who dislike the sounds and the amount who really like them is close to the same (although it would have been nice with some more votes), while WITH a surround, the majority really likes them.

Seems like a good idea to buy a surround system then 💡

I don't usually race from the cockpit view, but I think the sounds are ok, they are just not balanced very well (e.g. you can hear other cars engines better than your own).

I changed my "home theater" settings to the middle one. It was on "large".

It helped quite a bit as it brought more of the sound to my center speaker and less to the surround reducing the other car engine noises.

I recommend changing your setting to a smaller set-up and see it that helps.

It's better than before the update, but instead of mixing your engine sound with that of a passing car it seems like they just turn down the volume of one of the engines.

I am not sure if it's over done. It's perfect for me. SURROUND SOUND 5.1. I think the WIND noises are done well, but I know I would want them little more quiet, or at least less base in them.

Yes, I'm satisfied. It's easier to tell where other cars around you are now because the engine noise is louder, so you don't have to look around as much. The wind noise seems to have died down a bit, which is nice.

i think its weird how when you are driving behind someone and your car stops producing sound at all. Like the volume of your car is turned down, if not off. Any one else hearing this. Last time i checked my engine sound dosnt shutoff when im driving behind someone.

Yes, that is very annoying when I'm in a viper and can't hear my revs because of the Clio in front..

A tuned viper or regular? A regular one's exhaust is pretty mild and quiet. Compared to a wide-open after market exhaust, yours should Be drowned out.

My cousin has a 06 WRX with mostly open 3" exhaust (I think he has resonators) and he says when we are on the highway and im in front of him or by him he cannot even hear his car a little. And his car is pretty loud to begin with.

Open dump waste gates? :) I scare people when I dry by.

I don't use cockpit view, I use Bumper view for a higher sense of speed and the sounds are awesome. Only time I use cockpit view is with the F1 car, But that car is LOUD whichever view you use.

I find the BMW M3 sounds waaaaay too boring. It sounds more of w hining supercharger than a blown V8...

M3 has a naturally aspirated 4.0L V8 its not supercharged.

I think wind noise has to be reduced in the cockpit view. and i cant even hear the rumble of my own engine especially when racing with a bunch of AI cars around you. the only time i can hear my own car's engine noise is when i switch to third person view. i think it has something to do with the camera being behind the cars exhaust that amplifies the exhaust sound. that would explain my engine dying when im overtaken by a corvette.:)

I read someone saying it was like the sound of his engine was switched off. But it's because there's only 100% sound output. To simulate something being much louder than anything else, the other sounds have to be dimmed. It's called the dynamic range, and I'm pretty sure that's what the settings "Small theater", "Large theater" and so on are for. With large theater you would have much less sound "dimming", but the loud sounds would be much louder. (you would have to turn up the volume in accordance with the changes these settings make)

I just bought the S2000 and it sounds like crap when i drive it...i wish it'd sound as cool as when there's one right in front of me:grumpy:

^ Do you drive with in-car view or hood cam?

Sounds differ depending on what view you use. Just like in real life, You cant hear the same type of sound when your inside as opposed to being outside at the rear of the car.

Sounds good in cockpit, just wish other cars around you didn't drown out the feedback from your own car with regards to tyre squeal, engine rev's etc..

Makes it impossible to hear what's happening, it's easier to hear the effects of a competitor than your own car.. caused me to down shift a few times to far, and skid out!

Indeed. Sounds are a mess when you are surrounded by other cars. In fact, I when I first tried the new F1 event, a was doing 2nd gear all the way through the first corner without noticing it. It is hard to tell when you have to shift or when you are loosing traction.

i voted "i like them" because i think in general it was a step in the right direction, but the other cars are definatly to loud now, they wernt loud enuf before lol now its to much :(... theres been a few times i thought a car was behind me but when i looked there was no one around it was the car that was a good 40-50 yrds in front of me that i was hearing...

PD must lower the volume by other cars. I can´t even hear my own engine noise. It´s much better with a 5.1 system. (I have it, too)

I wonder how it is with 7.1? Is anyone use it an have the same opinion?

I wish the car you are driving sounded as good as the identical a.i. car that you are racing against, especially the old custom Vette. It doesn't even sound like its running in cockpit view, but if the a.i. is around you in one it sounds as good or better than Forza2. Almost there PD.👍
