How about an automatic pace car?? Would help in a lot of races

Interesting idea...
But I can just see it now... every other pub lobby room will be titled, "Pace Car Pummel" or the like. Punting the pace car would become a new part of the game for a bunch of people. :indiff: They'll put boost on strong, and see who can punt the pace car 1st! :boggled: People's sign-in messages will say things like, "I can punt the pace car in under 20 seconds @ Monza. Fear me!" :sly:

A couple thoughts assuming the proposed system works and is used honestly:
-- Anyone with a deserved bad rep who is trying to change their ways, would never get a chance to change their ways... I believe in 2nd chances but this system would not afford it. They would have to change their user name and start all over.
-- It might happen that the cops/speeders/cruising rooms would confuse people because the cops are deliberately ramming drivers, which is a behavior that would give someone a bad rep based on this system but it's how these rooms are supposed to work.

Then there's the people who don't like clean drivers & would stick it to them.

There are "people who don't like clean drivers"?? What kind of sick crazy stupid ignorant lazy bum idiot world are we living in?! Oh yeah, it's the online world wide internets...

Yeah it would be like an auto-soccer kind of game... everyone trying to get to the pace car first and bash its face in punt-style, yay fun! :yuck: Just be sure to use the TANK CAR as the pace car LOL!!! :sly:

Well, I'm pretty sure that the game wasn't designed with cops/speeders/cruising rooms in mind.

We really need some sort of filtering system to be able to filter out the bad/inexperience drivers. A manual rating system just won't work because it is inevitable that people will just abuse it. All we really need is a better way to configure an open lobby whereas to encourage clean racing. Being able to assign a license class to a lobby would be more effective than rating individual drivers. This way if you still have the ability to set "No License Required" so anyone can join.

Exactly. Some people like to do clean racing, and participate sometimes in the cops rooms, or dirty nascar, or dirty shuffle. And what's wrong with that? If it's labeled as such, people should be able to play that way, if everyone involved is up front & wants to.
The system would have to be complicated... making for choosing "dirty" or "clean" racing, etc. etc. :boggled:

I think the issue is that there's at least 4 different kinds of "dirty" racers.

1) There's the ignorant "newbies", or just people who don't know any better. :( Given the chance in clean races, they quickly improve.

2) There's the people who like dirty racing, when it's labeled as such, and are perfectly capable and like clean racing - labeled as such. :sly:

3) There's the people who would like to be clean, but just don't have the patience, they're impulsive, and just can't help themselves. Perhaps they regularly misjudge, and wind up rear-ending other cars at the corners, or dive bombing the inside corners, because they just can't resist the temptation to try & risk a dodgy pass. :boggled: These people too, have the potential to improve with time under the right circumstances.

4) There's the people who think clean racers must be totally nuts or complete wusses. They can't imagine why if there's a way to exploit the game, the track, the penalty system, etc... or use dirty tricks to win a race, why wouldn't you? They just don't understand why anyone races clean. Winning whatever which way is all that matters to them, after all. And if that's not how you see it, you must be a foolish clueless sap. If you complain that they're cheating, they think, boy is that guy pathetic.

Different strokes, I suppose.

But the truth is, you can gold all 60 license tests, and still fall into any of the above categories.

Hi there I searched the forums for a similar thread but could not find anything.

On to the topic. What would you guys think if PD added a rep system for on-line racing?.

As others said this would be abused by the very people you are trying to stop.

I think a better way is to permanently ban people from any room that you personally open up going forward, so you would have a 'block' list.

Unfortunately, the block list has a limit which is easily reached.

What is it? 5 or 10? On yahoo message boards you have a block limit of 100.

How is a pace car going to make other drivers clean racers?

I won't make people clean drivers but will improve races e.g. there's a crash, couple of guys escape and get a massive lead for the rest of the race, but with the pace car it gives everyone a chance to pit and re-group.

Also to whoever said that it would be abused it could be done that if you ignore the pace car you get disqualified from the race.

The AI drivers are far from clean. This doesn't help!
As an example:-
If you get fully alongside an AI on a straight, then pull slightly ahead with the inside line for a corner more than 200m ahead, they will bump you onto the grass as they take the line for the corner. It happens all of the time and makes me for one think, well if I'm going onto the grass in this situation either I sit behind and never pass here or I lean on the AI car a little before they lean on me.
This is very common on the Challenges and seems to be designed to force a certain pace on the driver as you really need to pass eleven cars and can't afford to wait too long or you miss the opportunity to pass the next car in time to make the front.

I'm not really complaining, but the game and particularly the Challenges do seem to encourage contact. So when I find some online races on at a time I'm available it is going to be really hard to not do this.

I read in another thread that running a top limit pp car with RS tyres can make AIs seem to be blocking, but I'm now running cars with the AI tyres and lower pp than them and still they barge away at me.

I believe this thread is about the quality of online racing and not the in-game AI.

I think his point is, as others have pointed out before, that the Aspec etc (ie: single-player), are really not good "teachers" for good sportsmanship & track etiquette in online multiplayer racing.
You can easily pick up a lot of "bad habits" doing Aspec & license tests.
Thus: "This doesn't help!"

I dont agree wiht him then, because it's actually the case, if you can manage to win most of your race in A-spec/online challenge without hitting others, you'll probably be a clean drivers online too. Because AI does such weird things, it teach you to not follow them right on there ass, be ready to break anytime, even it's a bit before your breaking point, etc..

I think most dirty people are actually not that dirty, they just play like they play with the AI, sure there is the rammer people but that's not a big part of the "dirty people" I see online. The most part of them are trying to overtake 12 car in the first corner, like to use your car as a break or as a way to take a corner faster by stepping on your door.

Even though I agree that Gran Turismo should have a pace car and caution laps, having these features won't prevent 'bad' driver from entering the lobby.

There needs to be a better way to filter out the 'bad' drivers and I think that a license restriction set by the host would be the easiest feature for PD to implement. It won't be a perfect system but it will be better than what we currently have.

As it is right now, the different license classes mean absolutely nothing within the game. In previous installments of Gran Turismo, a player had to achieve a certain license if he/she wanted to compete in a higher level race. There is no reason why PD can't allow us to set the same restrictions when we create our open lobbies.

I don't disagree with that.
But the problem is, you can also easily win just about everything without being clean, and by barreling through & ramming & riding AI cars.
Thus, it's not teaching anyone anything. It would be different if, you were given a score to win, you had to win it without ramming other cars. But there is no such hurdle.
The important point is... clean drivers are going to drive clean, perhaps, with the AI or online.
But the sloppy or dirty drivers, who need to be guided, are not getting that guidance from Aspec.

I believe this thread is about the quality of online racing and not the in-game AI.

It is.

What I'm saying is that the game encourages contact. Once someone breaks into online gaming, as I'm hoping to do, having reached very nearly level 40 with all my licences passed (Although precious few at gold!) they have had a lot of racing against the AIs where they bump and barge. Is it therefore not surprising that newbies don't race clean online?

Are you tired of racing with non clean drivers?

i rarely encounter dirty drivers these days.
I put it down to using only comfort or sports tyres, no driving aids and rooms with mics off.

Of course there's always the guy that uses a racecar in the roadcar only rooms, and the occasional person who likes to use the car in front as a brake but a few polite words or a kick sorts this out pretty effectively.

A licensing system which could be used to regulate entry into a room would be helpful. Here's a master license test for GT5. If you want to race online, run clean laps of Cars A, B and C on tracks 1, 2 and 3, PD adds up your times and you get a license Level 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5. Run it any time, improve it any time. Any open lobby can be limited to any license level or group of licenses.

A rating system that is automatic would be helpful, but given PD's record so far, I do not trust them to do thorough enough testing to determine the accuracy of the system. No doubt it would be released with major flaws that went uncorrected for months. iRacing uses a Safety Rating system and I hear it works quite well and is used to determine your ability to race more powerful cars.

Problems solved...:)

A licensing system would punish the guy that's been racing online for over a year and who just lost all of his data. Would you blame them if they didn't bother to level up and earn licenses again?

How about an automatic pace car?? Would help in a lot of races

I can hear the complaining now... "Pace car sucks, AI is slow, My level 5 B-spec driver drives better."

the Pace car sucked in GT4 license tests, we don't need that in GT5 online... nothing but problems:tdown:

It's not that difficult to back up your data onto a USB flash drive.

Also, it's not that difficult to do the license tests since golding each event isn't required. I'm sure if you someone who likes quality racing online and a S class license meant you had a better chance at joining those races then would would probably take the time and earn that license.

Right now, having an S class license means absolutely nothing in the game and I feel it should be worth something.

It's a laugh being a "non clean" driver...but you lot wouldn't know about having a laugh.

I don't play Gran Turismo to act like an idiot. I actually enjoy racing.

There is nothing wrong with being an aggressive or even an inexperience driver but it's the people that join open lobbies just to join to ruin the fun for everyone else I'll do without.

If I see someone like this in one of my races I will back out and kick immediately. Stupidity and ignorance will not be tolerated.

I wish we could set level restrictions and/or license restrictions when creating an open lobby. I'm sure that many of the 'trolls' haven't actually bother playing the game and most likely they haven't reached a high level within the game or wouldn't have done the license tests. If the 'trolls' actually bothered playing the game they might actually like it.

This option may not completely filter out the 'trolls' but it may cut down on them significantly.

A rep system would be nice but I agree that it would be abused.

This. The A/B Spec level system in GT5 doesn't work out because it is possible to play the whole game without completing even one license test. I say remove A and B spec levels for GT6 and make it more like previous GT's. Up until about GT4, no driving license = no racing (!).

It's a laugh being a "non clean" driver...but you lot wouldn't know about having a laugh.

Humour is in the eye of the beholder; ie: sometimes subjective.
Not everyone is a Katagelasticist.

Now tell me, whats so fun about pummeling the crap out of each other for absolutely nothing? Dont they have a game for that? Why ruin our game, that we are using for the purpose of which it was used for, for your own sheer enjoyment. I fail to see where the enjoyment is...

Its people like you who ruin online play for a majority of players out there who are looking for good, clean fun. You want smash up derby? Go play car soccer on FM4... Thats a smash-up derby and a half..

I would love to join a clean and friendly group to race with on a weekly basis. Problem is with a wife and two young daughters, it's hard to find the time. That and whenever I can play it's been spent on mw3 lately. I did join a Le Mans series last year but the times of the races just did not work out for me.

As a member in the first page said, players shouldn't be the ones to determine which driver is clean, but the game itself. Could be like this:

White: Top clean professional driver
Green: Clean driver, ramming only by mistake
Yellow: Hot-headed driver, may ram or block in order to win
Orange: Will ram to his advantage
Red: He thinks the opponents are a ball and that he is playing Fifa. Banned from GT5 online.

So, you click to check someone's profile and you can see his level. If the game is the one deciding, it should be legit then. Trolls will be hunt down and clean racers will be praised.

Wow....and you say you are a 38 lvl A-Spec and 39 B-Spec?
Being that long in the game should have transformed you from a wannabe soccer player with cars, to a driver. Seeing how that is not the case, maybe you should back out from public online racing and join your friends' lobby where you can all hit each other and laugh. 👍
