Well, since there is no response, This is how I would put it after my experiences with the opposite sex.
If she is a friend, get her something that is thought . . . look around her room see what she is interested in and don't go overboard at all.
If she is a short-time girlfriend (less then a year) . . . Also depending on the situation and how things are looking. . . Don't go over-board at all. You are still in the getting to know each other phase. Get her something that will remnd her of you, but something that she would not expect. Remember a surprise is a surprise. Also watch the expenses, you don't know if your marrying the lady
Over a one year commitment - Now you should know her decently. You'll never truly know her until you can put on her shoes in the morning and that will never happen until we can somehow we can switch bodies. . . Time for a special occasion gift of the sorts. You should also know at this point if you are going to continue or leave. This is a transistion phase of the relationship to tell the truth.
important If this is your first love then don't go overboard because odds are you are not going to marry the lady and then deal with repercussions of the relationship 2 fold the time you were together, trust me here. She would also at this point be dropping you obvisous hints about what she wants, but us guys never get hints, we need it in writing. Listen to her a little more closely and you should have the perfect idea
Serious Commitment - practically married or engaged. . . Jewelery all the way. Put down that credit card at the car shop and lay off buying that 454 engine or turbo system for you car for another day. It is all about her at this point. You should now at this stage be able to pick out what she likes and dislikes and have a good taste of presents that she likes. If not, your doomed, run away
Hope this helped you dude
