I had pretty good hopes for thins movie, I'm a fan of Lawrence Fishbourne I think in general his presence on screen is very good. His presence was good in this but overall the film lacked any real tension, one person got killed hat I didn't expect other than that it's pretty obviouse for the most part what happens to who and so on.

I'm sure you all know what the film is about, it differs from the original but overall I think it' a better film, standards have changed thats all. This time round Lawrence Fishbourne plays a convict who ends up having to spen a night at precinct 13 till a blizzard passes, ujnfortunately for him and everyone else with him in the precing, a load of crooked cops try to kill him and lay seige to the station.

Overall I'd give it a 7/10, watchable but nothing special. Maybe it's better than I think it was right now since I was hoping for more but even then it's never going be classed as a must watch.

When I heard about this movie, the plot sounded so familiar like I've seen it before. When I found out that it's an remake of John Carpenter classic, I bought this original version on DVD, and sure enough, it was the same movie I saw on TV, back in like '84(Yeah, I'm very old). It was very funny how I remembered just little bits of it, overall the movie looked totally different than how I remembered it.

I'm an fan of Larry Fishburne, too, I haven't seen this version, but I'd probably just buy it on the DVD when it comes out. Reviews on this movie has been pretty much like how you described it, but I think I'll enjoy it just for the all-star cast.

I know exactly what you mean. :)

Having not seen the original i can make a non-bias synopsis.
Good film, good acting, great opening (a rip off of Narc). And its nice to see a senselessly violent action movie with plenty of swearing init. The last good action movie like this i saw was Bad Boys 2.
So many films seem to be cut to make 12A or PG13 now-a-days. Am sick of it.
But good film
7/10

Umm, I believe seeing only one side of the coin is the EXACT definition of bias. Historians try to get as many points of view as they can about an event or person before making a conclusion. If you want to be truly "un-biased" you need to watch BOTH movies and then decide. And even then, most people who've seen the original first tend to be more biased to prefer it and likewise for people who saw the re-make first. I know a whole slew of people who actually think the remake of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre is superior to the original. It baffles me, but it still exists...

I think he meat that having not seen the original he hadn't already set a standard or a set expectation for this film, like I had done. He wasn't comparing it to the original like everyone else but to other modern day movies.

But it's a remake, and by its very nature it is NECESSARY to compare it to that which it is attempting to re-envision. The same thing goes for sequels. You can't examine a sequel in comparison to other movies at the time, without considering the first movie. Which is one of the major reasons I think so many people didn't really like either of the Matrix sequels. As stand-alone movies, they're VASTLY superior to the majority of sci-fi coming out (e.g. Paycheck, Chronicles of Riddick, etc.) but because of the high standard set by the first one, they tend to pale in comparison.

I think what 555 meant was that he was able to review the remake without comparing it to the original. Remake version as its' own film, not in relation to the original.

I agree that Matrix 2 & 3 weren't so bad, if they weren't compared with the first one, but what bothered me was that they didn't even come close. After seeing the original Matrix, I thought it was one of the best S.F. films I've ever seen. When I heard about two sequels in the making, I thought this could be bigger than Star Wars. Boy, was I disappointed. :guilty:

I totally agreewith the Matrix thing, I saw the first one on DVD and I loved it, then I went to see the other two in the cinema's and I was dissapointed. I now own them all on DVD though and after watching them all again I got a better appreciation of them. I still didn't think too much of the third one but overall the three films watch almost back to back, ie one a day three days in a row gave me a better appreciation for them.

Thanx Live4speed & a6m5 for understandint wat i ment. Remakes can be compared to originals or cannot its up to me the audience. Lots of people who see this might not have scene the original.
Comparing a film to its original is always going to happen, but it dosent mean you have to take note of that. What if i had scene the original and i hated it!?? then i would be comparing and saying how brilliant it is, or visa versa, its just the way things go.

And with regards to The matrix's the 1st movie is always going to be a classic. But with sequals, i was 1 of the few that liked reloaded & revolutions, but after seeing reloaded possibly 5 times now, i have to say its got worse & worse on every viewing.
Matrix - 9/10
Reloaded - 5/10
Revolutions - 7/10 (i think)

I just finished watching this on DVD(it's 4:30AM, I gotta be work at 8:30, so I could be in trouble :guilty: ), and I loved it!

Many critics put down this movie, so my expectation wasn't very high(which helps, sometimes). It is very different from the original, and the plot makes more sense this time. It reminded me of an French film called the "Nest". In the Nest, security guards, cops and thieves gets trapped in the warehouse, surrounded by an small army(bad guys). Of course, they have to band together and fight off the bad guys. Blockbuster carries this DVD, so I'd like to recommend renting this movie also.

Casting in Precinct was excellent. You'd recognize almost everybody in this movie. Laurence Fishburne was even better than I thought he was going to be, I didn't think that was possible. :D

If you don't like mindless action flicks, you might find it boring, but this movie is really good for what it is. I definitely recommend renting it, if you're an fan of shoot'em up action movie. 👍
