No SIM is so close to real driving that it can claim to be “better”. They are all compromise on way or the other.
When I say it's better, I mean that when I'm driving and I switch from Assetto 1 to Evo, there are huge improvements.

Notably in terms of braking feel, where there's a world of difference between the two

And you get a much better sense of speed, even for production vehicles.
Because yes, I even enjoy driving the Abarth on certain tracks.

And the Nordschleife is incredible in terms of detail on the track.

Where do I stand with my preference? Same as for apple and oranges, I like both.
I like both, Ii've been playing AC 1 since early access

No SIM is so close to real driving that it can claim to be “better”.
And that's normal.

Since we need as much information as possible on the steering wheel, and since few of us have expensive equipment (hydraulic seats), it's not realistic to have information on the steering wheel that we can actually feel with our whole body in reality.

Maybe I misunderstood because my English is pretty average.

Ac evo actully has good shot to take over the causal crowd on pc that wants something simular to gran turismo. With fm not doing so well, i can see evo being that title eventully.

Huge props to kunos for eventully going to create something so big in the hardcore sim space. And that was what got me excited for ac evo future.

I tried the Renault 5 GT Turbo for the first time last night, really enjyed the way it drove, lift off oversteer in the fast stuff, three wheeling as it should, surprisingly good fun to drive. Not driven one IRL, but it feels like a solid representation of a 80's hot hatch :)
That’s what’s so lovely about good physics. Just like in real life, pretty much any car is fun to drive hard, as they all have very distinctive characteristics, and even though you’ve never driven the car in real life you sort of ”know” that it feels correct.

Have not tried the latest update yet, still kind of busy with gt7 latest update and dlc.

But i have no doubt in my mind kunos can make a good game. Open world and car tuning will also be huge something none of the hardcore simulators has ever done, and thats what made me even more excited for the title.

I have no rush playing ac evo now when its in early access, the less i play it now the more fresh it will be when 1.0 releases.

I looked up the update and I gotta say something about a car that I really looked up to and that is the BMW E46 CSL. I do not know what they did, but the exhaust sound from the back is awful. It sounds nothing close to the real thing. I'm sure this is something that can be fixed, but the other cars sounds pretty decent in comparison.

Has anyone got the Fanatec Clubsport Shifter working correctly in H pattern mode? I cannot bind 1st gear, the game thinks 1st and 2nd are the same input.

edit: nvm I figured it out

What is Evo like with a controller, instead of a wheel?
I was thinking of buying it, but only if its good with one.

EVO is currently very good with a controller (I use an 8bitdo wireless). The car goes where you want it to and inputs are quick, but not twitchy, and the force feedback is adequate.

“Hotfix 0.4.1 is going live. This includes:

  • incremented UI engine texture cache count - this was a source of potential stuttering
  • potential optimization for stuttering caused by UI items
  • potential fix for heavy stutter when an input device reconnects
  • season definition penalties made consistent between quick race and race weekend race session
  • controls: fix for dynamic damping setting changes only taking effect after game restart
  • Caterham Academy setup limits and shift rpm led tweaks
  • Toyota Supra engine visuals exposed (both variants)
  • added line thickness to all Nordschleife layouts' full map in the map widget
  • Mini tuned exhaust backfire position (partial fix only, will require additional code fix to hide the stock exhaust's emitter, this will be fixed in the next major update)
  • fixed Audi RS 3 rear door animation being playable while driving
  • added passenger camera to all F6 (onboard TV) cameras
  • Nürburgring minor visual fixes
  • Mazda MX5 Cup wet tyre specified for wet setup
  • fix for game crash when trying to launch R3 Academy events
  • Serverlist - added filters for gamemode types, display "practice" gamemode servers as "trackday", match current car if no stored car is selected in eligible car list
  • improved BMW M3 E46 CSL audio
  • tweaked spectator sound zone volume
  • BMW M3 E46 CSL dash scripting updates
  • fix in the Porsche 718 GT4 RS lights script
  • Ferrari SF-25 aero updates, setup limits, fixed wing setting adjustments not taking effect correctly
  • fixed a race server crash
  • improved/fixed the pit entry/exit shapes to avoid offtrack false positives
  • BMW M8 Competition brake force tweaks
  • fixed electronics settings in Setup not loaded correctly
  • Dallara Stradale engine and turbo tweaks
  • Toyota Supra Drift variant with improved setup and setup limits
  • BMW M3 E46 CSL throttle response and autoblip fix
  • Toyota GR86 increased rear camber
  • suspension damage sanitization across all content
  • AI cars will now have improved reaction to lower-pace opponents
  • replay UI: removed redundant index when camera submode cycling
  • fixed HUD elements not responding to the visibility toggles in HUD settings“

I've been really disappointed with the sounds, however I keep seeing YouTubers say it the sounds are amazing. So, I'm wondering is YouTube just really compressing the sounds and it does actually sound good in person? I can hear that it's synthetic at low rpm when the throttle is pressed, that doesn't happen in ACC. ACC blows ACE out of the water from what I've heard. ACE sounds like AC, the sounds may be accurate but there's something missing where as in ACC I can close my eyes and not know it's a game.

Well hopefully this is real, and runs on wheel settings not gamepad settings.

Also, I wish those that interview Marco would really press him on AI, and ak him about sounds.

I have to say I am enjoying the driving experience much more now, it actually captures my attention for a while! Happy the M3 CSL got some love already, felt wierd blipping the throttle on downshift, happily I can forget all about that now that rev matching is enabled (as it should be on the CSL)

It's certain that quite a few sounds are temporary because quite a few sounds are reused for several cars.
But some cars have incredible sounds, notably the F40.

And others are really bad, such as the Alfa Romeo SUV (oops).

In any case, since the release of the Nordschleife and the improvement of the physics and FFB, I drive there very regularly to do track days on the Nrub.

I've never enjoyed driving an Abarth or a Mini so much.
And then the choice of cars is very tasteful.

Having the 205, the Renault GT Turbo and an F40 in one update is magnificent.

I can't wait for the optimization and netcode to be better quality; currently, driving with others is quite annoying.

Finally purchased Evo as it is 20% off in the Steam sale.

Have been running the licence tests while
I'm trying to get the controller settings dialled in.

The Steering is way too twitchy - is there a particular setting to change to reduce the twitchiness? Thanks.

EDIT: I've managed to reduce the twitchness by increasing both Speed Sensitivity and Steering Filter to 80 and increasing the Curvature to 50. The Steering still feels too sensitive, but more manageable than before, and the twitchyness has gone which helps a lot.

I managed to get to the end of the third Academy licence (Hypercar), but road cars are going to be hard work until I get things dialled in properly.

I also have issues with my "lead finger" on the throttle at low speeds in road cars.

So, a work in progress...

Has anyone gone deep into car setups in AC EVO yet? Are there many or any must-do changes that can have a big impact on laptimes vs. the default setups? I can't find anything out on the web.

I've never dabbled much in setups in AC as there never seemed to be exploit-level setup tricks that were must-do to be competitive like there usually are with GT games. Car tuning and tinkering has never been something I want to spend any more time on than I absolutely must.

I use these. Also, rotation is set at 360 and stability control (that's in assists) is set at 50. I get an experience similar to Forza Motorsport or even GT7 (without the haptic effects, of course).

5090 GPU / 9800X3D CPU - SteamVR

Test 1 - AC EVO using DLSS Quality - @ 90 fps

Test 2 - AC Original at same resolution - @ 90 fps

Test 3 - AC Original at same GPU utilisation - @ 90 fps

Side-by-Side AC Original versus AC Evo

Recording video while gaming reduces the performance a noticable amount (10%ish maybe?)

Running Evo at such a low res and with DLSS at Quality results in a very soft image which is certainly drivable but pretty disappointing considering it's a 5090. I have tried massively reducing the FOV so it is just a box infront of my eyes but that let me run at nearly full graphics and no DLSS and it looks superb, just need a 7090 or 8090 to power any recent VR headset. The fact the game is using so little of the 5090's power suggestd to me that there could be a 50% increase for VR if it gets optimised and with Quadviews implemented then AC EVO would be a great product for highend VR enthusiasts.

Excellent video which explains the fundamental issues with EVO.

Max Verstappen himself said that the original is the best and doesn't like ACC. I agree. EVO drives a lot like ACC. The front end feels numb and lifeless to me. I drove 0.4 EVO for four hours and switched immediately back to the original (used same Kunos car and track Nordschleife/AMG GT). The original is so much more natural and better in every way.

I tried these settings out tonight rerunning the first Academy tests and these work great. THANKS.

I actually felt like any errors I made were down to me and not poor control settings. To the point where I was actually confident that I knew when the Alpine was going to start sliding (which it wants to do on every corner )

I think the reduction from 1080 rotation to 360 made a big difference too.

I did the exact thing. I feel like the original AC has better defined areas of feedback, though I can understand why they're doing what they are with the linear style steering in ACE - it's an interesting simulated steering rack feeling.
