I considered these a long time ago and couldn't choose. AC is on sale now, but I hear the AI is braindead (something that Project Cars suffers from too) and doesn't have pitstops or marshalls, but PCars has better AI and full flags and has weather. I've seen videos and I can't pick between the two still. I would like something with good racing between the player and the AI and the full penalty system (flags etc) and a lot of cars. What about physics between the two. I don't have a wheel/pedals yet (recommendations) and I'm new to sims (just want a good racer). I'm coming from NFS Underground, Driveclub, the F1 games, Gran Turismo over 10 years ago, the kart racers and a little Forza Motorsport

EDIT: Please, I've been debating all day and watching videos, reading reviews etc. I also find Gran Turismo and Forza boring

I have excellent news for you my friend, you do not have to choose, yes, really, you can play both, really!
Isn't life great or what?
Now as far as which one to start with, my advice. Heads or tails?

Which is what will probably end up happening, but Corsa is on sale now. Just need to cancel my AC Syndicate preorder and see if I can get a refund on Arkham Knight

between AC, pCARS, RREE, AC has the best AI IMO.

About physics AC is the best, and it's more controller friendly than pCARS (but this is very player dependant), i can't find a way to config the controller in pCARS that satisfy me.

Why do you have two of the sane thread but, with inverse titles?

Because, to remove bias. The thinking is, people in the Project Cars forum would have been more likely to say PCars

Just a bit of advice, the mod staff doesn't really appreciate duplicate threads. I could be wrong; I would check with one of them to see if it's ok.

I think you'll be surprised. ;) Most PC players own both (at least on my friends list in Steam), and many visit both subforums...

I got AC. Will probably get PCars later

EDIT: And...it's refunded (AC)

Interesting, it makes sence, then you can cross reference with your own more objective reasoning.

Pcars had the idea, a good feature set and planned feature set, but it's in an Alpha state. 6 months out and their number 1 priority is still bugs... And there are a few really fundamental bugs that kill the game.

AC is more clinical, the focus is sim more than game. It's a lot more mature and the mechanics are far more transparent. But with such a small team focused on physics, and now on console (they had to rewrite the entire renderer) we might not see many game like features such as proper career and perhaps some key online league features implemented.

But AC is SO mod friendly the community is filling the gap in a big way.

If your like me, a sim is a bit of an investment. If you want more of a game (no less a sim btw) then Pcars (in another 6 months, or wait for Pcars 2 as there really is no more incentive to invest in 1) is what your looking for.

If you want something more strictly sim, with a very strong visceral sensation, where every car does truely feel unique, and plan to augment your immersion through leagues then AC is where it's at hands down.

A secondary point, AC online community is a LOT more mature and wreckers are an exception compared to Pcars where they are the norm.

My pov is PC, as neither really caters respectfully to the console gamer doctrine. As a long time console developer, neither comes close to what that crowed expects from a "game". But MS and Sony have lax'd their standards due to the onset of all the indie games.

Part of the reason I no longer own it

I'm here for a game

I agree with the setament, but the real reason I binned Pcars is because they haven't listened to their post sale community, can't seem to get that "game" working right, every patch has been two steps forward and 1.9 steps back, and they have a serious deficit in their "leadership". I think Pcars is one of very few games I just couldn't see past the flaws due to a very transparent incompetence.

Those that think Pcars is still being supported have thus far been completely hoodwinked.

But despite this, the career is quite good (only so much you can do in a racing game), the weather is great, when it works, and night racing adds lots of situational variety, and mandatory pit stops with some proper racing rules, but after a few seasons and their inability to combine DLC cars, broken setups, weather system broke, random grid placement (bug), and cars ejecting off the track (physics big they can't fix, though they tried a few times, no triple screen support (promised now reniged) just wore my interests out.

On the other hand, to compensate, and make AC more "game" I joined a very serious league, one that created their own tools and BOP rules, and the immersion is 10x but I appriciate having to go online at certain times isn't universally for everyone.

Let's hope patch 6 for Pcars magicly fixes everything... But if you've not been following it as long as most of us have, you should get your money's worth from it before the overwhelming "wtf?!" Kicks in.

I own both games. I simply have not been able to "get into" PCars because the driving experience for me is so much less real than that of AC. This is particularly true following the recent upgrades to AC which really make the cars come alive.

PCars is much more developed in terms of career etc but for me the driving experience is the first priority and AC wins hands down.

It's really dependent on what you want as a gamer.

If you're into cars, get Forza/GT.

If you're into racing, get PCARS.

If you're into driving, get AC.

Each of those games have components of all 3, but each only excels in one particular area, so you have to prioritize. Of course, if you have the money just get all of 'em ;)

Assetto Corsa without any doubt. don't get me wrong, pCars is also a very good race game but AC feels more like a proper sim and pCars still feels like a ...... game (personal opinion).

I haven't played pCars for more than a month. I even removed it from my computer. pCars has much more tracks than AC. I like more tracks.

AC has mods though, which virtually gives you unlimited tracks. Moddability is a huge aspect in game longevity in my opinion.

Indeed!

I forgot about the AC mods.

There is some down sides to a game supporting mods as AC does. One is that it divides the community up a lot. Just go online and look at the lobbies list. Almost half of them contain some kind of mod. You need to track the mod(s) they are using down to join or those lobbies are useless to you . While there are some good benefits to mods its not all pros.

Yeah that is true. I'm not a big online player (prefer to do offline hotlapping) so it has never been an issue to me, but I can see how mods can be counterproductive for someone who likes to run online leagues.

Having said that AC's online is not that great either, so the game is more biased towards with offline driving. As I mentioned above if you prefer to race you should probably get PCARS. I just wish there's a game that combines the best parts of GT/Forza/AC/PCARS.

I rarely run into issues online as long as I stay away from rooms with more than about 18 people. Once you get above that the quality of driving seems to drop drastically. That's with around 500 hrs of online racing.

Edit: I don't race GT cars so that may be a different experience.

And a game is what I'm after

I'm into racing

I don't get it. Assetto Corsa is as much as a racing game (sim) as pCars and vice versa. So why is AC considered to be a driving game?

I guess he's referring to the career mode. Personally I wouldn't let that impact my choice since in most games the career goes stale pretty quickly. What's left is what you'll be playing for the months/years to come.

Actually, being considered a driving game, means that it is the one representing a simulation of driving with more accuracy, as in you feel closer to driving a car when playing AC.

It is of course also very good for racing, but lacks some racing feature other Racing games have, like pit stop, rain, night and day, etc... So you can definitely have great races in AC but with some limitation.

The better question is would you prefer a better driving simulation with some limited feature or would you rather have more features but, possibly, a less convincing simulation experience.
Only you can answer for yourself, there is no right or wrong, just a choice to be made, or not, since you can play both.

PCars can sometimes have blind AI. Was run into the barrier by one

Thanks. I get it now. In that case, I prefer a driving game such as AC. I do miss some of the features you mentioned though.

I think I'm going to reinstall pCars again.

I tried pCars again and it seems that the updates made it much better. AC is still my favourite but pCars is closing the gap.
