Gaydon / Lake Como, 22 May 2011. At its world premiere this weekend, the Aston Martin V12 Zagato has won the Concorso d’Eleganza Design Award for Concept Cars and Prototypes on the shores of Lake Como, Italy.

Introduced as a modern interpretation of the famous Aston Martin and Zagato collaboration in the 50th anniversary year of the iconic DB4GT Zagato, the V12 Zagato was shown for the first time at this prestigious international event sparking great interest of visitors and customers.

All visitors to the Concorso D’Eleganza were invited to cast their vote for the best concept and prototype. Among ten entries from around the world, the Aston Martin V12 Zagato was voted the best in class.

Dr Ulrich Bez, CEO of Aston Martin, said: “We are thrilled to see that this car conquered people’s hearts. With the V12 Zagato we managed to add just another successful chapter both to the history of Aston Martin and the future of our brand. This is an exciting car, powerful and incredibly beautiful.”

Marek Reichman, Design Director of Aston Martin, added: “It is an honour to win this award in Italy, where many great designs originated from, and this victory shows that Aston Martin has successfully developed their own renowned design language over the past years. The result is a car that incorporates the core values of the Zagato design language which we perfectly translated into Aston Martin’s modern design DNA.”

Dr Ulrich Bez is looking forward now to taking the car to the Nürburgring where it will have its racing debut at the 53rd ADAC ACAS H&R-Cup VLN race in less than a week, on the 28th May. Dr Bez will lead a driver team who will eventually race two V12 Zagato cars at the Nürburgring 24 hour race on 25th/26th June. Dr Bez: “Nürburgring is where we sign-off every new model in terms of dynamics, and there can be no better place for the new V12 Zagato to be finally tested. The 24 hour race is the ultimate road test and a fitting introduction for the V12 Zagato”.

“Based on the reactions of our customers to this race car, we hope to offer a road-homologated V12 Zagato in a small, limited number as soon as possible. First feedback has been great so far, this makes us confident that this new Aston Martin V12 Zagato will be a winner of the classic car vote at Villa D’Este in fifty years time.”

Thoughts? Comments? I look forward to its results at Nurburgring 24hr. The DB7 Zagato looked decent but I don't like this one.

Where is Zagato getting all the time to throw these concepts together? That's the third one this month that they said they are thinking about building.

This one looks kinda... weird, though. Nothing at all like I assumed it would reading the thread title.

It's not a bad looking car, but in parts it looks like they've just copied other cars. The front is Aston Martin and the roof is Zagato, but the side profile reminds me of the Toyota FT86 and the rear looks like a Ferrari.

It's a TVR and a Ferrari with an Aston Engine (if it is infact an Aston Engine)I like the car don't like that it doesn't look anywhere near an Aston.

Nissan called, they want the GTR roofline back.

Ferrari called, they want their taillights back.

But no really, this car is just a big smash up of a bunch of other vehicles. it's hardly Aston at all... therefore 👍. IMHO, the Aston styling has gotten really boring as of late. It's the same design over and over for every model.

I wouldn't call it ugly, but it isn't gorgeous or attractive at all. Boring.

It looks like a cross between a Z and the LFA. As in, it doesn't look English at all.

 You're right, it is an FT86! From the side anyway.

Holy crap. I'm sorry I ever came into this thread! I can't wait to hear Top Gear bash this thing so hard.

The rear and side profile are amazing! I'm not a fan of the front end, it looks too stubby. I think a scaled down front end of a One-77 would suit this car much better.

This thing sounds ridiculous. Can't believe the video hasn't been posted here yet.

The view from the rear looks a little odd, but I think it looks great overall. And my god does that thing sound epic!

It's looks like a Japan-ified AMV8, or a Aston Martin-ed GTR. I like it.

^this.

Also, that sound is absolutely incredible. I saved that video as an MP3 and the starting sound is my notification tone. And the revving is my ringtone. Oh, and my new phone has these amazing speakers. And with that sound I could FEEL phone vibrating a little.

Same here, just looks like a bunch of other cars put together.

with that said......(back to Aston Martin 177) :)

Yup. Don't care how it looks. Would buy it for that soundtrack alone. Badass American idle with a supercar scream.

By the look of this heaping scrap metal, Aston Martin is looking at the hill they will soon be falling down on. This is probably the first disappointment by Aston Martin I have ever seen. If they suggest the price of at least $80,000, then they certainly are not going to get much of a purchasing audience.

The rear looks odd, the side looks okay and the front looks meh.

Do not want. I'll still go for the ol' One-77 (or what was it called).
