Yeah, i'm the fastest unswapped AWD! 🥳

Yesterday i had my first laps around RA. All my improvements happend in the 1st sector - do we really have to do a full lap? 😜
Congrats to that! 👑

With the adjusted rules the effect of an engine swap should be smaller. So, aim for the top! The RWD lap times were already quite close (knowing that not everyone put much time into this group).

I've fully embraced Audi-steer for this upcoming ATAQ. I'd love to get the Aventador into the 1:19s, but the R8 is taking up my focus.

Audi R8 Coupe V10 Plus - 1:19.4
505hp / 2934lbs [376.5kw / 1330kg ] - 690pp

But the real surprise came from the older Porsche GT3:

Porsche 911 GT3 RS (991) - 1:19.3
515hp / 2976lbs [384kw / 1350kg] - 716pp

The 991 GT3 is truly unhinged and seems to have more overall grip than even the 992. Truly a top tier machine [that has killed me many times for pushing too hard].

High downforce, aggressive setups have been the fastest from my testing so far. Cars with aggressive, grippy front ends can set themselves up to fly through sector 1. AWD helped me balance the aggression, but I cannot tell you how many times I hit a curb incorrectly and was send sideways into the Shadow Realm.

The power / weight figures above are the sweet spot for my driving.

I am pretending that FR cars do not exist, despite a Corvette C6 and a Camaro ZL1 getting 1:19.9s on my leaderboard.

Keep at it! That might give me top 5 result in the FWD section... 🙄 (Do you read this @Wilsonson and @KAlex122 ?) 😅

currently happy with my time. 1m19s43*
currently not happy that I did a Sophy and went off track with all 4 wheels.

Take a deep breath and try again.

but I cannot tell you how many times I hit a curb incorrectly and was send sideways into the Shadow Realm.
I solved that with a slightly softer suspension setup overall, but tried to keep all sliders at the same balance.
It works somehow, but for what its worth I am spending my time better on trying to get closer to the optimal lap time instead of dialing in the setup.

Hej fellas,

I had a first run at Road Atlanta and am wondering about track limits.

This is the little chicane after long Turn 1. Is 100% kerb still a valid lap?

196cb07400521-screenshotUrl.jpg

The left hander after the esses. In my opinion 100% kerb is here fine but you need at least one tyre left of the white line after. Right?

I am asking for a friend... 🙄 This could be important before the end of this round. Tell me what you think as we are our own referees!

By the way, there is another interesting approach towards Time Trial and Tuning here at GTPlanet: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/new-global-time-attack-championship.431879/

I have not thought about that and I see I need to make a few new laps with a much stricter mindset.
As I have already spent a bit of time, I wont voice my opinion but instead see what will be the conclusion on the topic.

I'm fine with maximum curb and yellow stuff for the chicane after turn 1. Yes, you can gain A LOT of momentum if you run over the yellow patch correctly, but it's also easy to get wrong / unsettle the car. My brain defaults to '90's DTM Driver' whenever I see this, and because PD's track limits are annoyingly strict here.

Same for the left hander. 100% Kerb. Just don't touch the wall. I can see why others would not be happy with this.

I've posted my preliminary lap (#ataq #rheinaoi #ataqatlanta). After watching it myself, oh dear, do I use all of the tarmac :embarrassed: I'll dial it back.

My brain does an emergency shut off after sector 1 at Road Atlanta because I burned up too many resources trying [and failing] to keep the car from sliding.

@Meythia The unintentional Sophy line is PAIN. Side note; my very first run ended exactly like your earlier posted lap. I thought I had angle right. The car thought so too, Full throttle. The track evaporates. Across the line and over the lawn.

I have a blurred memory of the last official TT at RA. The track limits in the left hander after the esses drove me mad.
But i think a "one rule for all"-approach works best. With that we avoid discussions for single turns.

so my suggestion is:
  • curbs are part of the track
  • painted tarmac on the other side of the curbs are not part of the track
  • 2 wheels have to be always on the track

I know this is strickt and will be anoying sometimes, but who wants an easy challange? ☺️

My times were done with fuel use and tyre wear turned on so they aren't really comparable to the other laps.

2 wheels on the track side of this line?

Or is the yellow stuff part of kerb in picture 1?

pushing it to the edges ...

Im confused about whether this is supposed to be in or out.
If the kerb was any longer, this would be in, is it out?

After a while of driving with the clarified rules, it occures to me that it really creates a hassle of tracking the fastest lap because now on each fastest attempt I have to review whether it was appropriate or not 🤔
Next time Tokyo, there is no doubts about track limits there 🤭

edit: idea - driving with shortcut penalty heavy, let the game decide? any lap that produced a penalty is invalidated.

The tarmac on your pic is the track?
left from it, under the car, is the curb?
In that case the car is on the track, with plenty of space to use (the whole curb!)!

I wouldn't mind that! I guess it would make things even easier.

As long as the lines are on the tarmac, I think your good (like in Tennis lol). Using the games penalty seems like a good idea.

It is the exit of this part:

The game penalty system seems to work fine for this purpose
No going wide on both corners that were mentioned earlier - so no questions left.
Just whenever a penalty is applied slow down so the next lap is not a game-red-lap and will be counted.

Okay, just for me to understand: I turn penalties on and let the game decide whether the lap is valid or not? I am fine with it.

Next round is planned at Brands Hatch (and not Tokyo...) but it shouldn't be a problem there.
