I'm looking to buy a good video card off Ebay and I found one of these. Would this be any good for my computer.

Specs:
1.8ghz P4
256MB RAM
Integrated Graphics :yuck:
onboard sound :yuck:

standard235
No
The comp I have has 256MB of RAM.
It's a factory Gateway 500SE
Anything but integrated graphics :scared:

Oh, I see now. I'm a GeForce man, so I'd go with a nice mid-range GeForce4 Ti 4200 AGP8X. Though I'm in no way an authority on GFX cards, I know that runs nicely. Should run most games at an admittedly average rate and according to my sources doesn't cost too much. It's a fair blend of low cost and desire to game. ;)

Haha I laugh at your stupidity! LOL
Might I mention that I only have PCI slots on our MoBo. I know a guy who owned a company for computers and I have 2 video cards. One AGP and one PCI but the pci is too old. Damnit!

:odd: at standard235. A good PCI video card on the market right now.. Probably a 9100 or a 9200 Radeon. Doesn't fully support DX9, but really, PCI video cards are rarely good for games nowadays.

Oh, no AGP? Yeah, there's heaps of PCI cards out there, like halfracedrift said.

Seriously though - shell out a lil bit and get a new box. You need it.

/\/\ That or at least a new motherboard. Unless you don't plan on getting a new computer soon, I think the best choice would be for you to stick with what you have and save your money. Even if you got the PCI cards, you won't be able to play games (some older ones) in all their glory, which to me, would be a waste of money.

Being unable to play games in full gaming mode is a waste. I'd just go out and get a custom made box and hook it up to the rest of my PC, it would cost less. Hell, I'd make it if I was in the same area as him. :)

^ Yeah except I don't got a job. 12 is a lil' young for it. I normally get a good amount of cash this time of year but no snow...but I'm going to thee grandparents' houses for some. Then I will touch on some new RAM and Mobo. Just what I need for now. Then sound and video card to free up resources. Muahaha.
<Too much Mt. Dew eh?

mid-range??? :yuck:

Now, that's a card you may put in a machine for word processing and basic gaming.

Mid-range is the 6600GT

Hahaha

Yeah, you definitely speak true, but I'm going with the "help, I have no money" option. If you got cash to burn go top notch, definitely.

I know a guy who runs a Radeon 9200 AGP8X and he's never had a problem with that. GeForce 5200FX cards are also quite good.
