If you have the option in your options set to display images and attachments in posts, then you will only see JPEG and GIF images automatically displayed. Other formats, like that bitmap, will appear as a link like that.

Bitmaps are fine for windows-based PC's, but they are a windows format so, AFAIK, other computers won't have an easy time displaying them. And they're big, much bigger than a .gif or .jpg, so don't use them for anything online.
