Attention to detail

I have just noticed something rather odd, while driving the Mazda 787B around La Sarthe. In the 1st person view, the one that shows the front of the car, as if you were in the seat of the beast itself, if that makes sense, if you look just below the G force meter, you can see something small and black squirming around. How odd, I thought, and switched to the outside view and looked at the front of the car. Amazingly I saw the windscreen wiper twitching under the massive forces being created by the car. I wonder almost why PD bothered to include this, but I was very pleasantly surprised when I saw it. It's just a shame they didn't pay the same attention to the AI i suppose, but I'm pretty sure it'll get better for GT5 what with the size of the disk, and there's no way Kaz doesn't know it's lacking.

I agree as well that they could have put time into other stuff. As well, there are severasl cars which do not exhibit the wiper twitch which makes me wonder why the ones that do.

They did this in GT3 as well.

You're right aren't you... I remember seeing something like this and then forgetting to bring it up on here, oh well, I'm a bit of an idiot. It is a pretty good exhibition of PD's attention to detail though.

I'm going to get flambed for this...sorry for the lack of information. I was in a race the other day, I don't remember the car or track. I let the replay go for a bit and I noticed the little mud flaps would move more or less according to the car's speed. I can understand a bit of the bit*hing some do about GT4's faults, but GT4's merits so very much outshine them.......*ahem* except for Rally *S*.....

Gotta admit I saw and got very excited about that too, lol

Could it have been one of the Delta rally cars? those have pretty big and visible mudflaps.

Yes I am :D <basks in ego>

The Evolution Super Rally Car has rather large ones too. The mudflaps also flapped in GT3.

I noticed that in some cars (White Toyota Supra 97 RZ) that around the wheel wells and stuff that the detail is very low. Not with many other cars but only that one sticks out in my mind. Just a rant I've had for a while.

I was surprised by the leaves that come up when you go into the grass at Autumn Ring. Now i'll take short cuts through the grass just to toss a couple up when i'm bored. lol 👍

they did, but always at the same intensity. they never flapped more if the car got faster, or less if the car got slower.

Oh, well I never use third person view, so I just used it to see if they actually moved, then switched to first person. Now we have the animation of the rear stabilizer of the SLR and the rising spoiler of the Crossfire.

yeah the SLR and cross fire animation got me so worked i jittered like a little school girl, but then i raced the AI and the happiness was all but gone. :(

One thing that bothered me immensly in gt3 was the detail on the 2 dimensional wheels, so i was expecting a vast improvement there.. but it never happened -_-`

Isn't that view from the roof of the car and not 1st person....1st person would be the original gt view....the one with nothing but road.

Nope :),

first person is from the drivers perspective, where they would be looking out of the windscreen and onto the bonnet. If you could see nothing but road that would be first person from the cars perspective, and i dont think thats what the guy was talking about.

look closer that bonnet view is from the roof.

I see what your talking about.. seems kinda stupid though, i never use that view it seems very off putting, especially when your trying to line your car up with a corner

Take 1 open-top car for a Photo Drive. Watch the replay. With careful use of the Select button, camera angles, and zooming, monitor the stick shifter compared to the selected gear. The position of the stick shifter is not just forward and back, it actually simulated the correct gear position! Now THAT'S (useless) attention to detail.

Also I know it's been mentioned already, but I saw the airbrake on the SLR McLaren for the first time last night while following closely behind. I nearly went off track in my excitement :D

Airbrake?.. wats this look like?. what am i looking for?.. fill me in it sounds uber exciting :)

From the bumper cam I use at close range under braking, it looks like a vertical plate that rises out of the back of the car, probably where the trunk is. When he comes off the brakes, it slowly retracts again. I knew the car had one, and I've seen pics of the real thing before (a while back) but I just wasn't expecting it, and as I was trying to overtake him in my little TVR T350C I was paying pretty close attention to his backside. Going into turn 1 at Grand Valley I see this thing slowly rise out of his back end and as I said I got a bit excited pointing it out to my girlfriend that I nearly ran off trying to avoid hitting him.

The view's actually over the bonnet not over the roof on most of the LMPs, or at least it seems that way. I like using that view for these cars, I don't like the roof view for the others though

It looks like this.

Is airbrake the proper term? I always just called it an active spoiler.

No, an active spoiler would be what the Chrysler Crossfire and Porsche Carrera have. The SLR's airbrake is used to slow the car down, not provide downforce, which is why it only activates under braking.

I just saw an episode of a relatively new Discovery Channel show called Top Gear in which they tested the MacLaren SLR and after having endured the torture of Mission 34 just a week or so ago, the thing that struck me was the engine sound...GT4 really nails it. I'd expect the car to look like the real one, naturally, since Gran Turismo has such amazing car models. And I knew the sounds were supposed to be individually recorded, but until now I had not really had a comparison to any RL counterpart.

So now the car looks and sounds like the real thing. I'd expect it drives like the real thing, although I've unfortunately never driven an SLR in real life. :sly:

But then I saw the air brake on the show and I said to myself, "no way that's in the game." They wouldn't put that in the game engine for the few cars that have it, would they? I didn't know because I always race from the inside view and after 4 days of trying to beat M34, I didn't really pay attention to any replays. Even after beating it, I only watched an in-car replay. So when I went back to watch the replay after the show, I was shocked to see on the first turn an actual air brake pop up in the back. It was a reminder of exactly why I love this game...it is as close to real life as you can get without $600,000 for an SLR and a trip to the Ring.

LOL... Top Gear is only new to those of you living on the continent... the rest of the world has had it for years... love that show... even if Clarkson is a total a$$.

I do that all the time... just tickles me pink.
