Know what's what, in the real world, when it comes to cars?
Just crushed my oil pan pulling into a driveway, left oil spilling out everywhere.
Only had time to drop it off by my local shop this AM. I could find one and do it myself but it'd take atleast a week before I could start work on it. I don't mind paying to get it fixed, but im not trying to get ripped off here.
How much is too much $ to replace it?
Anyone been in this situation before? It's an Audi, B5 model
I know 500+ is outrageous for the job, but I'm trying to weigh my options here

Moved to the appropriate forum.

There are other forums within GTPlanet besides the Drag subforum. ;)

Having worked at an Audi service department, $500 isn't that outrageous...that's about what you'd pay for a lower oil pan on just about any other recent make or model (if using new parts).

Lowered car, struck a curb, or both/neither?

Also renamed your thread title to something less ambiguous.

Yea, my front is lowered just a bit and after seeing my "bleeding" pan I followed a line of oil to the top of the driveway where I found the asphalt scraped. The place my car is at now is just a local imports shop, and I'm waiting to hear back from them. $500 is actually common? I haven't spent much time searching for replacement parts, but to my knowledge, they go for $100-$200..? I may be wrong, I'm just trying to educate myself. I grew up a Chevy man*

Btw: thanks for the thread clean up/help

The other couple hundred bucks comes from labour, shop rates are really high.
(I don't know the exact price, but it's somewhere in between $50-100 an hour.)

Yeah 500 should do the job if you didn't let the engine run with a ripped off oil pan.

180-250 for the parts, 100 - 150 for the work and 60-80 for the oil.

Well, it's typically a part in which there is no OEM-spec aftermarket parts readily available, especially in the VW/Audi realm (which are notorious for not permitting their parts be supplied to the aftermarket for reproduction). That's not to say custom-built, performance-spec oil pans don't exist, but finding or machining one locally is not likely. Somewhere in the US, an Audi dealer or parts warehouse has one and would probably have it available in 2-3 days.

Luckily I keep a quart in my trunk so it never ran dry, but it looks like I'm going to have to bite the bullet and shell out 500 bucks.
I appreciate the info gentlemen. I'll update you with what they quote me

Update: new oil pan+ installed+finished by closing time= $362.96*

You could always check local bodyshops or wrecking yards for cheaper item and lower the cost that way..
