Oh my traction! That was very cool, even though I could only understand a little bit of the video. That just goes to show you what sort of power and torque the Audis have, also that Quattro system is amazing!

Seen it before, this is the one where they finally get up with the spiked tyres isnt it?

yea, the first couple runs are on snow tires - they reach about halfway up the ramp with that. then they try again with the spikes. It's still pretty nuts that a car can do something like that though 👍

LOL

Yes, this A6 on ski jump is just a recreation of simillar attempt, 19 years ago, when an Audi 100 Quattro did that same drive up the ski jump. It's all in celebration of the 25 years of audi's 4 wheel drive - Quattro.

I suggest, that you go to audi.com website and take a look at flash animation/representation of the quattro and 25th anniversary. It's very nice, with 4 mouse pointers (remember quattro). There is a click on ski jump moment, where you can find out more about that attempt.

Have fun.

In the original video, it's clear to see that the car is attached to a wire (probably a winch). Was this wire just a safety precaution or was it Audi 'cheating'?

It's a safety precaution. The PR wouldn't be too good when the papers read "Audi A6 flys off ski ramp after failing to climb it."

That's what I assumed, but the wire looks like it's under tension. If it were purely for safety, wouldn't it be held slightly slack (so that it didn't aid the car in getting up the slope). I'm talking about the original video, too, not the A6.

Maybe they didn't want to take the risk of the car taking up that suddenly causing it to snap?

Oooh, my fault. I thought you meant the A6 video. I've never seen the original video. I'm sure it's still a saftey precaution, though.
