Hello, this is my first post so let me start with few words about myself. 23 y/o dude from Poland, I used to play a bit of GT2 and GT4 back in the day, now I am playing GT6 with wheel and I love it. I'm not really passionate that much about cars, I just love the feeling of wheel and racing.

So recently I sometimes play quick matches, the Mount Panorama ones. I see that the fastest guys drive Audi R8 LMS - Team Oreca '10, I tried that car and I find it impossible to drive! I am no pro, though I always aim for perfection and enjoyed doing golds in GT2,4,5 and now 6. I am aware that I just suck apparently, but this got me fascinated. How are you supposed to drive this car? It's very oversteering for me, feels close to the f40 seasonal. Yet some guys are really quick in this car on Panorama. Share some tips guys, thanks in advance!

Welcome to GTPlanet gerber - I share your passion for racing with a wheel! You sound just the kind of guy I need in my new race series - Cobra Coupe Shootout and Avon Tour of Britain 1973!

Back on topic - Some of the cars in the game are difficult to drive stock - you can experiment with putting lower grip tyres on the front which stops the back end from swinging round or tune the suspension and LSD of the car - there are lots of tunes on GTPlanet which can help. Also you can modify your driving style - some cars may need left foot braking and or a lot of care with weight transfer on the brakes.

I'm sure some of the other lads will give you a better explanation than me.

But all drive trains need to be driven slightly different; FF, FR, MR and RR.

And as the Bathurst QM is non-tuneable you need to know how to drive one stock. Why the Ferrari F40 feels the same is because it is the same layout so this will apply to that also.

MRs due to their layout are very nimble, but it needs you to command that nimbleness. They will over-rotate when the weight is off the back wheels i.e braking, and due to most weight usually being towards to rear, the back wants to come round. We counter this with throttle.

First, and I would do this for all drivetrains is manually blipping a bit of throttle when braking with downshift.

Along with that do as much braking in a straight line before the corner.

If any trail braking needs to be done approaching the apex of the corner you need to do it with throttle applied as well, this is quite important as this will reload the chassis at the rear and make it more planted to make the turn.

This next bit is a little hard to explain. You need to drive the car around the corner, throttle on, don't let the car just roll (like you would an FF car) because the moment you re-apply throttle at exit you'll spin out.

Some cars can be thrashed from corner exit, but along with the blipping exercise try to practice smooth throttle application when coming out of a corner.

So..MR cars need to have the chassis and rear loaded up to make them hunker down for grip when cornering. We do this with the throttle. Quite counterintuitive for novices but along with the 2 exercises I gave you, you'll be driving MRs like a pro and generally make you a smoother=faster driver.

Hope that helps.

@Sick Cylinder The thing is you can't tune in quick matches, so it is on stock settings. Btw I will be looking for some amateur friendly online race series, so thanks for invitation, I will check it out!

@scholesy1899 Thanks for the tips, will definitely keep them in mind when I try to harness this car again! For now I stick with other cars in QM that work for me, but I will try to master it eventually. I find it fascinating that some people can drive it so well. I tried turning it without pedals pressed, and was surprised to see it oversteering so much since somehow I got used to the idea that when car goes insane, just letting pedals go will make it easier to rebalance. Worked fine until this car :)

this seems interesting, I always thought that it is either brake or throttle. When is it better to use throttle with brake vs either brake or throttle?

and BTW, does downshifting in the middle of cornering affect it somehow? I have an uneducated feeling that downshifting while cornering or just right before doing so makes it easier to make a sharper turn

Turning a car with this layout with no pedals......it becomes a pendulum. Like all cars we use steering, brakes and throttle to actually transfer weight around the car to help us turn etc. A car with this layout, where is the majority of the weight still?

So if I'm coming up to a corner and brake hard, I transfer weight to the front wheels, the rear becomes light, but it's still the weighty end of the car.
If I continue to just brake but start turning into the corner what do you think is going to happen?
So rebalancing has to come from the throttle, to transfer the weight back to the rear, so there is grip available to us. That's why I mentioned driving or powering through the corner.

There are all sorts of centripetal/centrifugal forces at work which I am unable to explain knowledgeably enough.

When does a car go insane? Usually when there's far too much power going to the driven wheels to handle gripping the tarmac. So yeah we all have to get out of the throttle sometimes to regain control, but you'll find that mostly occurs powering out of corner exit, getting too excited and mashing the throttle. That was a tip earlier, smooth, progressive throttle application.

If you'll allow it, I'll send you replays of how I tackle both the R8 GT3s and the Fezza F40, and maybe view my throttle and brake to get the idea.

I think I was getting 2:03s-2:05s on that Mount Panorama QM, and that was using the SLS.

Yes! I would love some replays, especially the Mount Panorama ones. Msg me on PSN or I will when I will be playing next time.

BTW I remember that when wathing replays in GT2, along with the throttle and brake gauges, there was some kind of turning indication so you could also see in replays how someone is agressive with steering, is there something like this in GT6?
