I'd actually be more interested in the diesel, weight be damned. The R8's following the NSX' old role of everyday useable supercar, the V12 makes far more sense that way.

O/T, I'm just listening to Paramore, and Brad, I couldn't agree with your title/av more about Hayley. For. The. Win. 👍

oh, ya if i remember right the diesel cars get better fuel milage and therefore the diesel V12 should make a killing in endurance races. it woul also be able to run on vegi fuel and therefore it would also be the one of the worlds first high performance eco-cars.

PS: it's a pain to find this thread. you can take this whole title right now and paste the title into the search bar and this doesn't even come up...

They're photoshop. Nobody's seen the real car yet except for the obvious Audi.

Should the car really look any different? I mean it's just a different engine, probably some improved structural things.

Tuned Cummins, what'd I tell ya? only...a LOT quieter! How'd they pull that off? Did they actually put mufflers on the car? they could have made it much louder if they'd wanted to...

No, it shouldn't imo. Though I would expect some minor add-ons to the current body.

I'm not sure about Audi, but the Peugeot engine has filters and stuff, to promote the image of the 'green' diesels. But again, it's a car that runs 24Hrs and produces over 600HP. It can't be green, unless it's painted green..

This is the R8 I've been waiting for. Everything before it has been a resounding "meh" from me, but a diesel V12? Yes, yes indeed. A "green" sports car that can easily kick enough ass as still manage nearly 30 MPG.

Loves it!

Not green enough. Still uses oil-based fuel. And no, Tesla isn't the answer, either. :yuck:

It gets better fuel mileage then most average cars on the market, it's plenty green enough for now. Auto markers can't just instantly come out with something that doesn't exist.

^Beat me to the punch. :D
I'll update the title though. :)

I don't know what to think. I think it looks pretty good, but at the same time, maybe over done in the rear? Have to wait and see the official pictures.

Eh. The car doesn't look as "styled" as the regular one now that it has more holes than swiss cheese. I don't like that it really only has a giant grille with little metal slices separating the vents for a front. The rear is a bit racecar-ish compared to the original but it still has some good aspects. I really like the tailpipes integrated into the air outlets.

I've tried to get excited about the R8, but no matter what whiz-bang tech Audi stuffs into it, I still can't get past its demented pillbug styling.

Whatever happened to lithe, graceful, taut styling in supercars? You know, XJ220, MC12, McLaren F1?

The point wasn't necessarily chronological, Toronado. I included the MC12 because it's an aberration amongst modern supercars. Long, low, and lean in the finest tradition of styling, dating back to the coachbuilders of the 30's.

For some reason, supercar styling is getting bulbous in a hurry. There's nothing lean in the R8's styling, or a Veyron, Konigsegg, Enzo, or Reventon for that matter.

I disagree. As much as I dislike the Enzo, its hardly bulbous. Considering how similar the MC12 is to the Enzo in overall shape, and considering the shrinwrapped appearance they share, I'd say the Enzo is nearly the definition of lean. Other than its angular windshield shape, it isn't even that high looking.
For the other cars, though, I see your point.

Like Toronado stated, the Enzo isnt bulbous. The Mclaren F1 is alot more bulbous than an Enzo.

I agree with what you said though, I prefer the styling of lean supercars like the MC12, Enzo, XJ220, F40 or even the NSX to an extent, moreso than the Veyron or R8 chubby style.

The R8 is meant to be an everyday supercar (much like the Porsche) but still, I cant quite blame the design. I think the bulbous design is to make the car more "sturdier" and protect the passengers more. The Long, low, and lean design is practically more of race/track day cars, so thats why you don't see those designs on road legal cars.....

And you misspelled Koenigsegg. I prefer to spell it Koenignogseggseggseggggabbaseggviking, but that's just me.

Am I the only one who thinks the R8 looks lean and tidy, if oddly proportioned, while the MC12 is a huge, long, ugly fish?

I think the adaptations for the V12 make it look more supercar like, which hopefully should fit the upgrade, I think it looks very immpressive.

If that car is driven in a city it'll overheat as it sucks all the litter into the fonrt grills. It's like a massive vacuum cleaner.

Though, definetley a step forward for car manufacturers in the use of a diesel engine.

Come to think of it, I find myself having to agree with this slightly, if only for that oblong grille.

Where did the notion that the R8 was flabby come from? The use of body lines actually make it appear quite svelte.
