The Audi V8 Quattro DTM is a touring car built by Audi to tackle the 1990-1992 seasons of the Deutsche Touring Masters. This was an unexpected move by Audi, as they were known for AWD Turbo race cars, so BMW and AMG Mercedes did not expect an Audi competitor as Turbo's were, at that time, banned from DTM. To resolve this the base car was the Audi V8 Quattro, a V8 N/A 4-door. This made it a tough competitor to the BMW M3 E30 and the Mercedes Benz 190E. The Audi used a 3.6 N/A V8 producing 420HP in 1990 and upgraded to 460HP in 1992. The car's design was unchanged from the road car for the 1990 season but on high speed courses such as AVUS and Wunstorf, the car generated lift and this restricted the top speed. To counteract this, Audi put a rear wing for the 91-92 season. Over the years however the car got heavier, with it weighing 1220KG in 1990 and weighing 1300KG in 1992. In 1992 it weighed 300KG more than the M3 and 190E.
