Share your sound set-ups.

I currently have 5.1 in the living room which is mainly used for movies (my wife would freak if it migrated to the man cave).

And.... my second pair of Turtle Beach headphones just gave out. So, I will not be purchasing another set from them. Great audio quality, but the damn things both gave out in less than a year of use. I do not suggest them.

I am currently looking to purchase the 5.1 Sharkoon X-Tatic headphones for use on the sim-rig and with Modern Warfare 3 (sound whore!). Does anyone have any experience with these?

I have something I can actually contribute! They work flawlessly on Xbox, not to bad on PS3 either. (Yes it's possible to use XBOX only headphones on PS3, somehow) Works wonders for Forza, I can no longer go back to the Flat Sound's of the TV Speakers. Not to mention Halo Sounds like a dream, especially when a Wraith get's destroyed.

I have a 7.1 surround system courtesy of my Denon receiver. Surround speakers are wall mounted(pain in the butt), everything else is on a stand.

When the wife and kids are sleeping I use TB X11 headphones with the TB 7.1 "magical" sound processor box thing. It actually works really well for FPS games and in Forza you can hear when someone is charging behind you right before they slam on their brakes and run into you.

If I was going to get some new headphones, I would give the new wireless Steel Series Spectrum 7xb a try.

I've not used those cans before but I have been using a set of Turtle Beach Ear Force2 5.1 cans w/ boom mic for a few years now and they are still going strong.

I also have some Grados, Sony's, and Senns for stereo listening.

Running a Pioneer surround receiver, Polk floorstanding speakers in front, Polk center, and Definitive Tech surrounds.

Sennheiser HD650s produced the greatest sound for my ears thus far, but I'm using Tritton AX Pros for gaming. The surround receiver module you have in your pic looks just like the one from Tritton so the sound quality is probably the same.

That said, the directional nature of the phones are pretty good (and the main thing you're looking for in surround phones anyway), but where it falls short is in the bass. It seems to produce upper and mid bass, but doesn't get down into the lower registers. If you're used to gaming headphones they'll probably work out great, but if you're coming from audiophile gear, you'll be somewhat disappointed.

Which company makes the best multi-platform headset?

I'm looking to buy some(Christmas present to myself)and would like one that i can use on both the PS3 and the XBOX 360.

As far as surround headsets, right now it's probably Tritton (also Sharkoon), or Astro. Psyko Audio briefly had a multiplat headset but they quickly pulled the plug on it. If I recall, that setup involved a third party sound processor, and I suspect that a problem with that relationship had something to do with them killing it so soon. When they come out with another headset that works on consoles they will probably take the crown as the best (but that's probably months if not a year or more away).

I have owned Trittons, Turtle Beaches, and I have had my Sharkoon X-Tatics for a week now. Hands down the Sharkoons are the best I have experienced. Sound quality is far superior. There is no feedback (which many headsets suffer from). The bass is a little lacking... but, the in-line controller allows you to change the volume of each channel (sub, front, center, rear) so increasing the volume of the sub alleviates the lack of bass and allows you to focus on what is more important in whatever game you are playing.

I have yet to try the Astros. For that price I could get a pretty nice 7.1 setup.

^ Your link doesn't work, GTMail. You need to remove the hyphen at the end.

Man!!! I am late to this party. :(

I viLe styLe I, did you get these? I have them and it is always interesting to see what other people think of it.

IMO...

Pro's
- Wired. Batteries not an issue. (I sit with in 5 feet of my 360)
- Comfortable.
- Surround is decent. Works well in FEAR, Forza, and other games where sound enhanses the game play. I can understand side conversations on DVD now. Watching Excell Saga for example, when Excell goes into a rant, the other characters are in different positions so I can tune into what Excell is saying, if I want a laugh.

Con's.
- Mess of wires. They did not streamline anything about the wires needed to make these work. For example, there are 2 power wires. :/
- Weak to nonexistent bass. You know it's suppose to be there, but nothing happens when it comes to the low end. (FWIU my set is defective in this area).
- No audio equalizing. With all the power going to this headset, you'd think there was some way to trim the highs and lessen the mids, while increasing the lows.
- Heavy. They weigh quite a bit, so expect your neck to get a work out. Don't doze off with them on, you will get one hell of a crick in your neck.

Final thought... they do the job, and provide decent surround.

I am looking to replace them, with the Tritton Warhead's once they hit the market.

Just bought some Turtle Beach earforce bravo PX3 headphones and they gave out after an hour :D the left speaker can no longer handle bass

I never could wear headphones comfortably. I guess because my head is shaped like an egg, lol and they hurt the crown of my head.

I use the cheap Vizio soundbar and sub. Walmart $300, but it gets the job done.

Listening with headphones is very subjective, as are what colours look good, and car body styles, your girlfriend....haha. I realized when I was a teenager (long before most of you were born) that the best thing to do when you want headphones / sound systems, is to go and listen too them. What I like may not be what you want.

If you are outlaying a ton of money then most shops should let you listen too them.
Having said all that. I have:
Denon amp
Bose speakers
NBox
Apple Tv
PS3
XBox

Just ordered a set of PX5's and hopefully these will not break after an hour :D.

Well the PX5 headset is amazing, great sound quality. I am hearing things on Forza I never new were there and the wind noise is much more prominent.

Home Theater Setup:

Pioneer KURO 60"
Yamaha RX-V3300
Sunfire Cinema Grand
Martin Logan Ascent
Martin Logan Aeon
Martin Logan Cinema i
Polk 12" Subwoofer

For quiet gaming:

Turtle Beach Ear Force Delta (freak'in love'em)

I do have a stunning Sony stereo system with 5.1 surround, but having a new born baby in the house means that it doesnt get used at all any more hense the px5 headset

Ok guys, my dog just ate my original Xbox headset, so I'll be needing a new one. I have been thinking of buying a proper headset for a long time but haven't spent any time on this "project" yet.

So basically what I'd like is Surround Sound (if it makes that big a difference, never tried?), a proper mic, decent sound quality and some comfort for the longer gaming sessions.

With these options, I'm looking at triple-digit prices, right? What if I want to spend less than say 100€, what would you suggest? Over 200€ on headphones is completely too much for me at the moment.

I'm not sure if surround sound is a "must have", you tell me!

I would be using the headset mainly on Xbox360, but also on PS3 and on PC.

EDIT: How about something like these: http://lb.hardwareversand.de/articledetail.jsp?adp=0&aid=65504&agid=264&apop=0 Price wouldn't be too bad!

EDIT2: Reading this thread more accurately gives me the picture that those X-Tatics should be pretty decent? How about that lack of bass everyones talking about? I couldn't live without decent bass tones from the headphones!

What ever headphones you buy...keep the dog in mind. Dogs are NOT as discriminating as grown-up humans. We spend good money on the best headphones money can buy. Yet they are just as happy eating cheap XBox phones as $800 Sennheiser's...:ouch:

That is true... :)

I've been trying to do some research on this, but it is very difficult. I would have to try each set to see which suits me best, and that's kind of hard, because all these sets are a bit "exotic" here in Finland. At least in Jyväskylä, I think. :p

I viLe styLe I posted a pic of the Sharkoon X-Tatic Digital in his first post. I just now realized that there is quite a big difference with those and the S7's I was looking at. The Digital's have a "true surround" with multiple speakers, as the S7's only come with two speakers and the surround sound is only a "virtual surround".

Has anyone tested/heard if there's a big difference with this Dolby Headphone technology and a true surround sound? I would guess that there's a big difference??
