Aussie cars are great value with torquey 5.7-6lt v8 engines but i never saw them as sporty cars. My dad drives an XR8 and though they are quite fast in terms of straight line acceleration, they are way to bulky and sluggish around corners. Their weight and size is a real problem. That's also the reason i don't watch V8 supercars anymore: The cars are just way too big for the track!

I thought that was the fun part, as a viewer.

Anyway, Falcons and Cdores might not handle like a Euro or Japanese car, but that doesn't mean they are slow track cars. The 235kw Monaro is quicker around Winton than a 350kw/700nm E55 and WRX STi. Thats impressive.

And HSVs AWD cars are the slowest in their lineup. The new Coupe4 is something like a mid 14 second car I think. The new Nissan Maxima will give it a run for its money.

the subaru impreza sti is the best bang for buck and is a far better option than a monaro or any large v8 touring ford or holden. the impreza sti is cheaper and quicker with its only real disadvantage being topend, which can easily be sorted with a turbo replacement.

Yeah the HSV Coupe 4 is auto and slow for a 5.7lt V8. It's also very heavy at 1830kg . 0-100km/h at 6.5 seconds is not impressive at all too.

Yep Aussie cars can be fast track cars too. The driver and tuning can make a difference too though. A fast car that's not tuned for the track properly might not be able to unleash its true potential.

But why do they have to put an auto gearbox in a Monaro??? That sucks so bad. 👎

Yes but they are different cars. One is a family car and the other is a 4door sports car (there is a difference). And alot of buys of these types of cars (family cars) do so through novated lease plans and hence cannot modify the car.
I know that when time comes to buying a family car, which one I'd get.

The refinement levels of an STi and an HSV are miles apart. For those who want to cruize around town wint alot of torque down low will hate the STi.

Aussie cars are like family cars with big engines. I never saw my dad's XR8 the same way as i saw a WRX. My mate's WRX is a lot more fun to drive around but the XR8 is much better as a family vehicle. It's more spacious, has a more comfy ride and great for towing stuff. The problem is that it's not as sports oriented. As for cruisng around town, my Accord Euro is better than the two lol.

An HSV Clubsport will probably hand the Sti its arse anywhere except maybe a wet or dirt road. As I already said, the Monaro laps Winton quicker, can't wait to see what the 297kw Clubsport manages.

The STi is a faster car than the clubsport in most tracks except the faster ones and the GTP raceclass has proven this but its a fact that for the money, you get so much more than what you'd get in an STi. They are two different cars that serve different purposes. A person who is looking for something like aa HSV wouldnt even consider an STi and vice versa.

Now lets not turn this into a v8's vs turbo debate. Stay on topic fella's. :)

Yeah I reckon the old Aussie Muslce is what's really missing, pitting our lineup of muscle with the american stuff would be lots of fun. I agree that we should have more than 5 cars but heck at least both companies are represented this time.

Onto a slightly different topic, do you think PD may remove the Astra, Vextra, and Corsa from the Opel/Vauxhall section and put them into the Holden section as Vectra, Astra and Barina respectively? I mean there is the Vaxhall VX220 vs the Opel Speedster fiasco in GT3 so maybe they will have each version ie. the Opel badged Vectra in the Opel section and a Holden badged Vectra in the Holden section.

you think at 4wd monaro would beat a GTR not a chance ahh haaaaa. ive seen GTRs on sandown and phillip island running lap times close to V8 Supercars times.

Yes you are all right , the HSV coupe4 as its known (AWD0 is an auto, to make matters worse it's a 4 speed auto. i think in the first version of the car that's all its gonna have, i think it was because of the amount of torque or something like that and it would take them many months and heaps of $$ to develop a manual. But i am sure they will bring out a Manual, 6 speed of course, the only way :sly:
