In Australia we have a branch of GM (general motors) called Holden.

Holden makes probably the best Australian made cars and most of em are V8's.

Chevrolet has corvette and camaro and Holden has commodore and monaro.

Americans have probably never even seen a commodore so ill post a few pics and you decide if you like what you see.

The XU6 has a blown 3.8litre V6 and produces 180 kW @ 5000 rpm and 380 Nm @ 3200 rpm.

Gee - I would have thought the HSV Commodores and Coupes would be too heavy to be Corvette competitors - more GT cars than sports cars.

I would love a base model manual V8 Monaro though.

This is the SV300 (special vehicle) and its got ****loads of grunt. 300kW @ 6000rpm and 510Nm @ 4800rpm. some people even supercharge these. ive seen a few go over the 1000hp mark.

Did you say .... ass crack?

Nice looking cars.

FYI: 1kW = 1.36hp so the monster 300kW is 408hp. I think that could make me happy (:

Sheesh - I'm happy with the 160hp I've got at the moment.

I've got roughly 120hp ... that still needs some work done.

I use this statement to snap my self back to reality occationaly.

haha i meant the nice crack a big v8 has at high rpm. when you really flog the commodores, they crack pretty nicely. you can pull over 300kmh out of the Clubsports...not bad for a normally aspirated car eh?

living in australia, all you see is :holden: the clubsport r8 is the best

0-100km/h in 5.89 seconds
0-400 metres in 13.99 seconds

5.7 litre, pushrod v8 engine

they dont look sporty enough for me..they look kinda like a cool bmw sedan type thing. Nice looking..but not like a sports car.

not sporty enough lol. I guess id have to agree there, there a GT car basically. Heaps of power but no they dont look like a sports car.

I guess you could class them as the family car that has no problems burning off rice haha. HSV also makes wagons with 350 chevs in em.

The Monaro is a classic big two door.

Actually, I'm looking forward to the 3.5 litre AWD Magna - that motor's a peach - wasted on front drive. Of course I have no chance of levering the partner out of the Liberty/Legacy - she loves that car (and truth be told, there ain't much wrong with it - well nothing that another 120hp couldn't fix :) )

Do you have any more pics of the Holden lineup? I have always been intrested in Australian cars. I have see pics of vintage Muscle cars from Australia that came from GM, Ford, and Chrysler. Are there still any Chrysler cars there?

Do you know how freaky it is to see someone else using my old avatar? I'm going to have to do something to mine now to make them distinquishable ... (:

Glad you liked it enough to use it, though!

you want more...you got it.

This is a Holden HQ Monaro. Car from mid to late 70's. Probably the equivilant of the camaro. One of the most common cars to have a big block and a blower in australia.

My first car was exactly the same as this apart from a few things. Mine was red, had a 383ci stroker motor with twin turbo. Good for over 650 - 700hp. Very difficult town car to drive.

(i just noticed fuel was spelt wrong haha)

Go to www.holden.com.au - there are pictures of the line-up there.

I personally rate the Statesman/Caprice as one the best looking big sedans available today.

Apart from the Commodore derivatives everything else is Opel - Vectra, Frontera, Astra, Barina (Corsa).
