How about a 60 sec. auto refresh of the New Post search located here:

http://forums.gtplanet.net/search.php?s=&action=getnew

It would be nice in my situation on how I use the forum, but don't know how many other's use this feature often. It would probably help prolong the life of my left button on my mouse...

Thanks for reading....

Oh and.... This meta tag could be added pretty painlessly:

PHP:
<META HTTP-EQUIV="refresh" CONTENT="60; URL=search.php?s=&action=getnew">

I like this idea!

I was actually talking about this last night. Is there a way that you could "automatically" refresh the page while staying in the thread that your in? Or have the page refresh when a new post is made?

No there really isn't unless you wanted to open up your computer for complete access to your system's resources, which I don't think you want.

Bulletin boards seem dynamic, but are infact static, in that you don't get live data, only a series of updates from queries done on the database. But that would be killer if the refreash would be triggered by an event such as a person submitting a post.

:)

you spelled refresh wrong :)
hahhaaha that is a good idea, instead of being gone for 5 hours and still think your reply was the latest one.

, thanks for pointing that out....

*now looking for 1mic's misspelled words...* :D

Done! :)

No, that would be extremely annoying in most instances.

Actually I think you can search for *F5*, but don't hold me to it. The * counts as a character, but it's also a wildcard so it can be anything including a space.

Or you could search for "Refresh", and hit the last page of the results....... :)

I accept the award, but you're not getting a speech from me.:P

And uh, what's this pic I'm reading about? I've never posted a pic of myself here. So it's probably a pic Jordan posted trying to be Mr. Funny Man.:mad::D

No, that's a really bad idea. Imagine you were trying to read a thread that was busy! The damn thing would never be done refreshing, and you'd never get to read it.

Also, how would you control the pages? If someone's reading page 1 of a 2 page thread, should they be forced to reload? I wouldn't think so.

And (finally for this topic), it would be a huge waste of bandwidth for Jordan. Imagine if someone sets their preferences to 100 posts per page, then views HMRCWG, then wanders off for dinner, or something.

Sorry to trash your idea mate!

 That's alright, it really wasn't my idea anyhow. :D But the killer part would be not the end result, which I can see would be just too chaotic, but the process and the fact that it could be done would be killer. I was so excited about thinking about the process that I lost sight of the end result. :)

I smell a lynchin' 'bout to happin'.....

I don't know how it does it (i don't do that kind of IT) but the firewall, proxy and PC setup combination we have at work does this for us. Certainly the time i really noticed it was with Lebsta's big piccy (let's not go there). I see the pages / threads update in front of me. I was reminded of it because of this morning when i was chatting with Dudebusta and Boombexus their posts kept popping up at the end of the thread as i read the posts.

Like i said i don't know how it does it, maybe we're hitting some sort of cache limit so it (the set up) tries to re cache constantly.

But it's not invasive, it can be confusing for a second but that's all. Maybe if it was thread that was getting hit hard it would be a problem.
