I think a good feature for GT4 would be editable Auto-x and Gymkhana courses. Like you start with a empty lot and place cones where you'd like. Or maybe a preset section of cones to make turns easier. I'd really like to see this type of feature in GT4. Hopefully it's on of the features they're considering but haven't mentioned.
This would be great for drifting because it allows us to design unlimited amounts of courses and can improve our skills. Plus it would be fun to have little drift sessions or team practices online on a custom course.
So how many votes does this feature get? Maybe we can email this post to Polyphony to encourage them to add the feature.

Auto-X is a huge part of racing too, and a good developer of racing skills. It definately belongs in this game.

There ARE drift modes, but in terms of Autocross courses, I highly doubt it, unless like SCCA gets involved. I doubt they'd have courses like this, they might have it in a liscense test though.

they might do something like that (probably not), seeing as they added the test coarse in GT3

Adding this feature would be the very best new feature in GT. I Vote YES. Please someone get in touch with the producers and let them know how important it is to have an open parking lot to edit our own Auto-X. We could host our own online competitions where the edited tracks resemble this weekends SCCA set up or something in that area.

This probably woudn't be possible with the current hardware of the PS2. And where would you save the large amount of data required for each new track you created?

It would be possible if it had preset pieces you just plopped in place, it would take up very little memory. Similar to the park editor in THPS.

Auto-X in GT would be just a glorified license test. Drive and don't knock over the cones.

Lame.

i dont see why this isnt possible with the current ps2 hardware. hell theres track makers for tony hawk pro scater, which includes different ramps and obsticales and whatnot, whereas for auto-x/gymkhana, all you have is a lot and generic pylons.
and where would we save this data? how bout the hd? how bout the memory card? since youre not actually saving any graphics and images, only quardinates for pylons and stop and start boxes since you could just race on a generic tarmac flat, or mayb they will even supply different parkinglot locations around japan/the world, it really wont take too much room.

i brought this up probably a good half a year ago, but i too think autocross and gymkhana would be a good idea. especially for online play. sony could even hold weekly/monthly sanctioned autox events with unique courses each time. this would a great way to demonstrate skill because everyone gets the same amount of time to learn a totally new course, so it really emphasises your skill in figuring out breaking points and racing lines. the only problem i could see is for gymkhana events. so far, i havnt seen in any previous gt game, or gt4 videos, where they show you having the control over the cars needed for gymkhana, like being able to circle around a single pylon like this levin does: http://c-racing.web.infoseek.co.jp/20030119/ae86_b2.wmv
but ya, i think its a good idea, and it would allow for countless online hours of unique play.

You guys do know there's a Gymkhana track in GT4P, you can't place the cones but there are a few extra events where you have to drive through a maze of cones without knocking any over so something like that could be possible. You would just have an empty lot and you would use the D-Pad to place cones. As for a Auto-X that would be more tricky.

I am glad to see PD already included some sort of autocross element into the game. If you can setup your own course, that would be so cool. That way I can come up with a scca solo design and simulate it on GT4, before we actually set it up for an event! 👍

hehe thats gymhkana. its crazy. the gymkhana in prologue is like going for a school license test, not gymkhana like that. wish it had gymkhana like that, but i dont know how youd pull that off in GT.

I don't see it as being a problem, if no as an out-of-the-box option. But with the Online service and the HDD, its rather infinit in options.

to minimize the cost of memory, it could be to create some tracks with preset turns and straights in cones, which you can add up on a parking lot surface.

Autox would be a great challenge of precision driving, and gives a good oppurtunity for good slow cars (ex. Mini, Miata, etc) to really shine. Plus, I could see it becoming a nice little part of GT, especially for the online mode. I can imagine some online autox races becomming real competitive!
