Automatic Transmission Shift Points

I propose a RPM based shift point setting for automatic transmissions.

This would be most useful in cars whose torque band reaches its peak long before reaching the red line. Yes, horsepower is usually most at the red line. However, for those using the automatic transmission setting, sometimes once the maximum torque has been reached, it takes the car more time to hit the next higher gear. When using the manual shift feature, this is never a problem as you can short shift to get the car back into its good torque range.

Also, this is not to be confused with optimizing the gears on the transmission. Regardless of gear ratios, the shift points are still always static for a particular RPM on each car. I believe an added setting would really help.

For instance, let's say your car red lines at 5200 RPM yet the torque is max at 4400 RPM. It may be advantageous to move the shift point closer to 4400 RPM (perhaps 4800 RPM) to maximize shifting inside of the good torque range.
