I dislike everything else.

*end*

I hate how people dislike the Enzo because it's new.

And how do you not include the Daytona and the 250 GTO?

Thanks for the 355 mention though.

I dislike the Enzo because I just can't stand the way it looks. It to me doesn't look like a proper Ferrari, I just don't like it. And as for the Daytona and 250 GTO, I just don't like the styling. Just my personal preference.

Having a choice and money I'd easily choose the F40 over them all--but if money was an object I'd probably get the 348 or 355--in yellow.

The 355 in yellow is just a truely beautiful sight to behold. I mean, just look at it:

Good god that is one awsome car.

To me, this is the best:

f355_gts-080806.jpg

That color, that spec. 355 F1 GTS. My first Ferrari? Give it a few years...

That vehicle - which is actually a Testarossa whose owner painted the side skirts, as many Testarossa owners do - has been seen before by me on the road. Again I mention my auto show photos are spotty at best and the simple inclusion of photos shouldn't be taken for granted. Here's a close-up of the car you're referring to:
Oh, that one. I believe we had a discussion about that particular Testarossa before.
I want a Testarossa with 512TR bits and pieces in it.
JCE3000GT
Thing is the 348 is actually fairly affordable if you think about it.
That is because it is a 348, and it is generally agreed that those are crap. 50k could buy you a Ferrari 412 and enough money to repair it for a year. Or, like, 8 considerably-better-than-the-348 Mondials.

Much better use of $50,000.

What if we dislike it because we think it is atrocious, and that the Maerati version is 10X better.
I should post my Ferrari list.

Interior is dated. I much prefer the 355 and would be willing to pay the premium over the 348 given the cash.

Explain please, if the bit after this didn't already.

This is the 'federal' spec F40:

Compare to the normal version:

The US spec one has ugly thick rubber fenders, a thick rubberised front spliter and chunky side lights/reflectors. They're not big things, but god is in the details IMO.

Agreed the US spec ones look worse, but only marginally. I barely even noticed the stuff until I looked at some F40 pictures that weren't mine when I got home. It doesn't detract from the overall appearance of the vehicle.

I can honestly say that I have never noticed that before.

Well because I do not like the 512 and you do I'd say that is up to personal preference on what we would spend $50k on, wouldn't it? And what one man may consider is crap another man may not. I don't think the 348 is crap, it IS a Ferrari after all. I don't consider ANY Ferrari "crap", I just don't prefer most models.

100% agreed. The MC12 is a much much better looking car...and I suspect slightly faster on a track?

I rather like both the 348 AND 355 interiors--but for different reasons. To me the 348 gives me a "classic" Ferrari look and feel to it--while still being fairly modern and not from the 60's. But, I still prefer the 355 over any other Ferrari--minus the F40. The 288 GTO is damn close, but slightly fouth place behind the 348 for me. Even if people consider the 348 "crap" they still have to admit that it is still a great looking car. :sly: 👍

The MC12 is slightly faster, but then again, even with less horsepower, it's made to be more like a race car than the Enzo.

Have you had the chance to see one yet?

Perhaps so but its exterior, too, is dated - especially compared to the 355.

Taking that photo I almost forgot it wasn't 1992...

I can't remember if there was an MC12 at the DAS this year or not. If there was an MC12 in either 2005-2007 Dallas Auto Shows then yes I've seen one in person.

I just can't win can't I? I NEVER defend Ferrari--infact I'm the first in line to pick it apart, so when I finally say some positive stuff about it I get shot down. lol Oh well, at least we completely agree on the F40 and the 355.

Mmmmmm black w/tan interior. Lookin' gooooood.

The MC12 arrived this year, and wasn't at the Auto Show. All Boardwalk showed off were 2 Quattroportes, F430, and 599 GTB. The only thing close to MC12 that's been to the DAS is the Enzo that appeared when Ferrari Dallas made its first appearence at the show.

I really reccommend you head to Boardwalk Ferrari, and look at the one there to see it. It's quite a feeling seeing such a rare vehicle in th U.S.

Who can't remember whether they've seen an MC12?!

 Yes - and on the 288 GTO. Obviously my love for the brand runs a lot deeper than yours, as I'd proudly drive just about anything with the prancing horse, while you're not even willing to accept the 250 GTO or Daytona! But, to each his own. In my experience most people who dislike (most) Ferraris have good reason.

Wrong color, wrong bodystyle, wrong transmission. Ferraris were meant to be red, with a targa roof, and paddle shifters. In fact, God himself said to Enzo, 'Enzo... red cars, with targa roofs. And also paddle shifters. You don't know what those are.' But he was hard of hearing at the time so he couldn't quite make it happen. In fact he relayed the message to his underlings as 'red cars with targa roofs and battle shifters.' It took them five years to make any sense of it.

For the record, that vehicle's saving grace is that it's a 355. The Spider is the worst 355, the manual is the worst transmission, and blue is the worst color. But I'd still be proud to own this one...

f355_spider-082006.jpg

The 355 is just that good.

Agreed. I'd even drive a 355 if it had an American slushbox automatic.

The 355 is just that good. 👍

And what one man may consider is crap another man may not.
Just giving the general concensus, is all. Remember, the NSX was a revolution for a reason, and that reason was the 348's (and to a lesser extent, the Porsche 964's) lack of quality and poor driving manners at the limit; and while I would happily accept one if it was given to me, if I was footing the bill I wouldn't be able to accept the lesser quality in comparison to the Testarossa or the poorer driving characteristics when compared to the Mondial t.
Besides, while it was beautiful when new, it hasn't aged as well as the car following it (despite less-than-loved styling when it debuted in '94); nor has it achieved the timeless shape that graced the car that proceeded it (of course, no other Ferrari made since has, barring the F40).

On a vaguely related matter, am I the only one that sees design similarities between the MC12 and F50? Am I the only one who liked the F50 at all, for that matter.

Yes to both. Even I'm not an F50 fan, and I love everything that Ferrari has ever touched.

Maybe in the front, but nowhere else.

And btw, I love the F50.

I rather think the F50 is bland and generic looking. Its almost like they didn't even try. Would I drive one if given to me? Yes, and only long enough until I could sell it to buy something else.

As much as i love the F40 and, well.... admire the engineering of the Enzo - the F50 is actually ment to be the best of the lot when it comes to being an out and out super/megacar - if recent back to back tests of all three are anything to go by. it's no looker though :yuck:

The F50 has the worst of all worlds: the horrible cabin with the horrible styling. I can put up with the horrible cabin in the F40 because its styling and purpose-built nature make it cool, and I can put up with the less-than-stellar styling of the Enzo because it's such a beast - and because the cabin is such a great place to be - but I can't in good conscience say the F50 deserves to be placed ahead of either vehicle.

Furthermore, the F50 makes no improvements over the F40. It's no quicker, no faster, and only marginally more powerful. As I mentioned the interior is the same, the styling is worse, and you can have an F50 for the price of two F40s. Yep - it's open-roofed - but that's its one selling point over Ferrari's other supercars.

Don't get me wrong, i hate the way the F50 looks and on paper it looks little quicker than the F40. BUT, it really was, construction wise, a Ferrari F1 car for the road and you've got to admire it, if only for that reason.

Like you, I still prefer the F40 but, I would call 4 seconds a lap quicker at Fiorano an improvement.

F50 - The ultimate Ferrari
It also had to be naturally aspirated, like the F1 engine, not turbocharged like the F40’s. This is one of the most significant differences between the F50 and F40, says Martinelli; a key reason why the F50 is at least four seconds quicker around the Fiorano test track.

As would I. However looking at the numbers on paper, the F50 doesn't impress - the 0-60, 0-100, etc. times are the same, and so is the top speed. Both vehicles weigh about the same (literally a few pounds in either direction - in fact I have one source putting both vehicles at exactly 2976lbs). That must mean the F50 is the better handler - as it should be given that much development had to have occurred between 1988 and 1995.

In the end, both vehicles are at the very limit of awesomeness. The F50 might push the limit marginally more than the F40, but most people prefer the F40's looks, it's much easier to find and cheaper to buy, and in terms of usable performance the vehicles are quite similar. I know where my $350,000 would be spent - to purchase an F40, not to put down on an F50.

I don't know why I wrote all that since we're mostly in agreement here (in fact, has anyone argued for the F50 over the F40?) but I just want to go on record saying the F40 is cooooooler.

+1 for the bold statement. How many people had an F50 poster? Hmm, anybody? My guess is less than a handful. I--like probably most other people here--had an F40 poster in my room as a kid. And you're right about the F40--its purpose built and the interior needs to be that way--and I think its fantastic. My only thing, if I bought an F40 I would immediately take it to the local Ferrari dealer here in Dallas and get it professionally painted dandelion yellow.

Look at how it looks in yellow people. That's just pure automotive pornography.

f40_yellow.jpg

Yup I had an F40 poster in my room up until we moved a few years ago. I think every red blood male who has a thing for cars has or at one point had one.

Yellow?! No chance! Those things were literally built to be red. I can't imagine them in any other color!

Guess I'd be alone then as I prefer the F50 more. I just sort of like its styling more.

Now's the part where I get shot down in flames, isn't it? :nervous:
