Automotive & Motorcycle Insurance Help

I'm looking to either buy a car, motorcycle, or a scooter within a year, but I'm not too familiar with insurance. Some people told me that since I'm a new driver, I would have to pay up to $200 a month for automobile insurance and about $60.00 a month for motorcycle insurance. If I decide to get a car, I want a Mitsubishi 3000GT and if I decide to get a motorcycle, I would like a Superhawk or a Kawasaki ZX-6R. For automobile insurance, I'm looking for something in the price range of $60.00-$100.00 per month. Can you guys help me?

Alright you are going to have to pay an arm and a leg for a 3000GT, new drivers with turboed sports cars don't go hand in hand. Your best bet is something safe and slow if you are a new driver, unless you can put the car in one of your parents names...which is what quite a few people do.

Go to geico or progressive's website and get an online quote to get a rough idea of what it's going to cost. You can talk to agents from other companies too and get quotes for vehicles you are considering buying.

I'm going to guess $110 a month is unrealistic at best for a new driver in LA in any car, much less a 3000GT. Motorcycle insurance varies greatly, I've got basic insurance on my 500cc Kawasaki for like $40 a month, full coverage on a new 600cc sportbike would be $300 back in Portland.

I don't recommend progressive, they give me really off the wall quotes. They quoted my Blazer at over $1600 a year with full coverage and I haven't had any tickets or accidents. Your best bet is to call around and talk to a real person, also try the same insurance company your parents are with, they typically give you a better deal if you have more insurance with them.

All I can say is 'Good luck.'

Living in Los Angeles, and driving a 3000GT etc, you'd be lucky to get out of there for less than $250 a month... Very lucky indeed. Consider this; My current Jetta costs me about $160 a month right now with full-coverage, and I'm 20, and I don't live anywhere near Los Angeles. Heck, even my last car, a Volkswagen Fox, still was about $90 a month with just PLPD on it, and with the changes in insurance laws, I'd be lucky to see that rate at a figure less than $115 these days...

Poke around, talk to insurance dealers, see what they say. Trust me, there isn't any way that you're going to be able to get a 3000GT for that cheap unless you're 40 years old and have a spotless driving record. Think small my friend, get a better job and save up some money, and go onward from there...

I'm willing to pay around $100-170 if that's the case. I checked Geico for the insurance rate for the 3000GT, and it was around $217.00 per month for the first 6 months, and that wasn't full coverage. I might try the Volkswagen Golf/Rabbit next.

Golfs are much cheaper on insurance, just don't go for a GTI because you will get screwed on it. That is the sole reason I'm driving a Blazer right now and not a MKV GTI.
