Anyone planning to congregate to the NEC in Birmingham this weekend for the Autosport Racing Car Show? I'm going with my dad and my video camera. :D

I was very interested in going, but I am a bit low on money at the minute.

My dad has booked Paddock pass tickets for the 12th January. We'll be going to the Pistonheads show at 6:00PM Live Action Arena, Block B, seat numbers W65 & W66.

Did you enjoy yourself, VF? Personally, I found it alright, but no more than that... However, I do think I've been spoiled by going to Goodwood, and so my expectations are too high. An enjoyable day, if a bit pricey.

Loving those little grass racing buggies doing wheelies and lurid powerslides 👍 That's what you get from a bike engine (I guess) attached to a wheelbase as wide as it is long.

And the Gulf DBR9 is purdy.

I thought the show was very good. I think they should have included more ALMS cars there. The highlights from Autosport IMO were the JPS Lotus, the XJR-9 and the whole of the F1 grid (I was surprised to see two Venturi's as well) :). Paddock pass was a rip off though, I came at 3:30PM. By the time I got to the driver signing area, the announcer said no more autographs today from drivers, just Louise Goodman (besides driver autographs, all you get are laminated pictures of the drivers). The oval racing was ok, nothing special. BriSCA formula one stock car class was the most enjoyable. Hardly any of the crowd cheered though, and people left as the final heats were about to begin .

Both JPS Lotus'sesses...s :)

One of my highlights was seeing what I think is my first Lister Storm... and then seeing the road car in the Coys auction later that day. Also watching a Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona be auctioned for £175,000 ($377,000 US) was special too.

I saw the 12.30 show from the grandstand, and then went back at 6 for the oval show to watch from the side (I was right by where the cars entered the track). Watching from the side is a lot better than from the granstand - you can't hear what's being said, but the view all the way down the back straight was great.

I never bother with autographs anymore - I prefer to get a photo of the driver and then move on. I can't be bothered to sit around in a queue for and hour when I could be seeing cars instead.

Interesting side note: the XJR9 that was there was the one in Gran Turismo 4, as well as being a Goodwood regular.

The Lister Storm road car was dark blue, very nice. In total I managed to take 77 photographs on the day, I would have taken more but the battery power on the camera was running low. Roo, you may have seen me walking around in the Autosport halls, I was the smallest guy there, wearing a Corvette jacket :). I'll try and make it to Goodwood this year, if not then definitely '09.

:D

Can't say I did see you, although I didn't know who I was looking for :) This was me (nearest camera), the same T shirt and everything.

If you've never been to Goodwood, you must go. If your over the moon at touching an XJR9 and R10, then how does the Mazda 787B sound? The Tyrrell P34? The Bugatti Veyron? Toyota GT-ONE? Porsche 917? Etc. etc.

I've had a quick chat with my dad and he said that we will go this year. I showed him the pictures you took at Goodwood and he said we are definitely going this year no doubt about it :).

Off topic: Roo, do you mind If I add you as one of my MSN contacts?

A bunch of more or less random photos, including the road Listy, the £175,000 365 GTB/4, and - for Viper-Fan - the XJR9:

Nice one Roo, excellent pics! :) What camera were you using on the day? I used a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX7 5 megapixel (got to replace it soon, it sucks). Oh yeah, the red car in the live action arena, was that the famous 2000bhp Vauxhall Victor?

Thank you! You need to stick some of yours up ;)

A Nikon D40, a digi-SLR. Best purchase evAr. My photo skills are rubbish, but the camera saves the day, every time :) I used an "AF Nikkor 70-210mm 1:4" lens, whatever that means, for the Arena shots (and the blue Countach); all I know is it's slightly older then me and used to belong to my dad.

Yes, the red car was the Victor. And very loud it was too. There was a Studebaker there as well.

Did you (or you, nitro_2005) get any pictures of the Mitsubishi Evo VIII estate? It was at one end of the Mitsubishi Lancer Registar stand, down near the Pistonheads end. I got a few, but my memory card ballsed up :(

No, I don't think I spotted it. My time was limited :indiff: I will get some pics up later, got to do some other stuff first 👍
