Avatar Issues

I tried to get a picture off of Google Images today, and it was 100x100, and it wouldn't let me add it. Can somebody help me/explain why?

It says "invalid file" when I try to get a picture from anywhere else. It was a JPEG I believe.

Did you try to link directly to it for your avatar?

If you did, try saving it and uploading instead.

Yes I tried that. Unfortunately my computer does not allow meto save photos anymore.

Well, that's your problem right there. You can't link an image directly for your avatar, because A) then you do not have control over what image remains at that location, and B) it would be stealing bandwidth from whereever is actually hosting it.

You'll need to be able to save the image locally first before you will be able to upload it. Also, 100x100 is only half the equation - make sure the file size is small enough as well.

Nevermind now, I got it to work. I guess I had to get a 90x90 of the image for it to be small enough. Thanks anyway Duke.

The forum has a problem with my avatar, I want this avatar:

It's 120 by 120 pixels and 42KB, I know, it's too large, but the forum automatically reduces the size.
My problem is: I upload the photo, the forum reduces the quality too much (119 by 119 pixels and 3,4 KB) and the result is a blur avatar, any solution?

Resizing it yourself is a better option. There is a thread somewhere.
