Avatars? GTPlanet? Wha?

For the longest time people at GTPlanet have cared so much about their silly avatars. I'm not saying this is a bad thing or that I think it should change, just that I don't get it. Why are a bunch of race car video gamers so concerned about a dinky picture on a website? It makes no sense to me. And I'm included! Hell, I made over 600 avatars for this site.

What's going on? The only thing I can figure out is that we like pretty shiny pictures. Which is one reason why we like Gran Turismo so much.
 
I think I stopped caring about my avatar after I reached 1,000 posts. I still change it every once in awhile though. I try to use a cropped picture of something I've taken too (I.E. My current one is a close-up of the Ferrari F1 car on display at the Pit Walkabout in Indianapolis).

I dunno. I just like a certain picture by what sparks my interest at a certain time. But I don't go making stupid threads about how cool my avatar is. So, I just like having a different picture. I would say it cool. It just shows what I like at the time.
 
I've been doing a series on my latest toys - I had the B&W speakers, then the maker's names from my amplifier (Marantz) and tuner (Denon). Now it's the Athlon logo from my new computer.

I'll probably flip back to one of the gg avatars soon though.

I guess the gg avatars were a real marker for me.
 
My 'tar varies when my mood hits. Sometimes it's social commentary, sometimes it's a cranky old bastard, and sometimes it's a suave-but-stupid television character who's hung like Smarty Jones...
 
my avatar varies randomly. Usually it's just something I find humorous, sometimes I'll have my favourite musician, and sometimes it'll just be some random object
 
Dang you guys change your avatar's too often :) , I'veonly had 2 avatars since I joined ranging from a viper to the best engine 👍 .
 
Avatars are useful for finding posts in a thread - it's easier to look for a picture than read the text. I change mine every couple of months or so; otherwise I forget which one mine is, and lose whereabouts in a thread I've got to. I use it as a sort of bookmark; if I've posted, it means I've gotten so far through the thread, so all I have to do is look for my avatar and read on from there.
 
I'm sticking with the F-14 avatar for a long time, it just looks so cool. It pwns all avatars (except Famine's evil straw man, that one was freaky).

Perhaps people, myself included, like our avatars to reflect our mood.
 
I really don't obsess over it that much. I change mine when I get tired of the current one or if I find a purdy picture.

That's what I use the red text for:D

I just change my avatar when I get sick of the one I'm using. Like right now I'm looking to see if I can find a new one.

Where did you find your current cat avatar ?... That looks exactly like one of ours when she's in her "special" mood.. ("Special" as in, watch out for the nail bags ;) )
 
i barely change avatar. and i dont think i will for a while. i like mine. THE RAGING BULL


If i do change it, its prolly just another champcar avatar or something i quickly whipped up on paint

I never really change my avatar............but I wish the upload limit was higher so I could have a decient moving GIF......I wanty that SLR to dance baby! :scared:

The longest I've kept an avatar is about 4 days. I get bored of them quickly. I don't know how Der Alta resists the urge to change.
 
Actually, I think Gil has had his longer than I've had mine.

Truth be told, I usually change it every 6 months. Flip it back and forth, or change the color of the flames. Simple subtle changes.

I think I'm gonna keep mine for a long time. I don't particularly care for avartars myself, I only did this one as a bit of a joke in a thread and the last 5 or 6 posts were done by people with women as the avatars.
 
I tend to keep my avatars as links or whatever to my websites. Obviously not clickable links, but... hmm i dunno.

I was planning on bringing The Spot back up (was a website with links to all my other sites and general discussion forums) but i can't find anyone who can install 15 modifications on my phpBB forum for free. So it looks as though i'm going to have to abandon the whole idea. Which i don't want to do. *cries*

If you see an avatar with 'GTSC' on it then you'll know i've given up trying to revive The Spot. :(
