I just registered, being a fan of all types of LEGAL racing, and was getting settled in when I came across avatar selection. I figured, maybe there are national flags! So I went through the pages and eventually found them, but to my surprise, ol' glory had a damned advertisement on it, along with Italia, and all the others.

I would appreciate it if the GTPlanet logo was removed from all of the National Flag Avatars, it is very disrespectful, both to me, and my Country.

Please don't take this as trollling, as I don't complain about much. I'm sorry if this inconveniences you.

Thanks,

Everett, new member.

I never looked through all the pre-made avatars before now, but I guess I don't see the issue. If the flag av's were the only ones with GTP on them, then maybe, but they almost all do. And why is it no one ever complains about David's wang? Also, am I the only one who thinks page 9 is hard to look at?

Back on topic - Besides. Ninety-eight more posts and you can have almost whatever you want for your avatar.

I'm very patriotic, and I stick by the United States Flag Code. Writing on the US Flag is against the code. It's just out of respect.

I saw an announcement that said not to use the term "Japanese." I'm sure if I called a black member a "N"er," then I would get banned, or suspended. It's just out of respect, not to write on a flag.

There's no writing on the flag. There's writing under the flag. None of the flag is covered up in any way.

Yeah, I just went and found it, page 23 to save others time, but the GTPlanet.net is practically separate from the flag. Its not as if the logo covers up three or four of the bars. If it did, then I might see why you have a problem with it, but all thirteen bars are there and accounted for.

It's still advertising, using a national flag. I guess it's just me then.

Do you have a problem when a company/franchise, for example, like McDonald's using a flag in an ad?

Anyways, I don't want to sound like a jerk, but I guess it is just you.

Yes I do, as a matter of fact. The Flag is a symbol of our free nation, when people use it for their own capital, it's disrespectful. We do have the right to, and that is what the Flag stands for, but that doesn't make it right. To me anyway.

Advertising? If you're already on the site, have already registered for it, it isn't really advertising. It's more about the flag than the site.

Then why is GTPlanet on EVERY still avatar?

I know why... It counts as a logo, for guests viewing the site.

Why are you guys arguing my opinion? I just asked if it could be changed. A simple yes or no from an Admin would be much easier...

Page 23

You'll notice there is an American Flag with no GTP logo on or around it. That is, unless I'm mistaken.

BTW, there is no rule against putting a website logo around or near the flag.

EDIT: There are also 2 good avatars with the flag on page 24.

I looked into this, and it is indeed in violation of U.S. federal law.

(i) The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any
manner whatsoever. It should not be embroidered on such articles as
cushions or handkerchiefs and the like, printed or otherwise impressed
on paper napkins or boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use
and discard. Advertising signs should not be fastened to a staff or
halyard from which the flag is flown.

As clarified here, a logo is a form of advertising, and has been removed from the avatars in question.

Well like they say, its better late than never. ;) Was surprised that it took this long for someone to notice it......

Thank you, I really appreciate it. I'm sorry if it caused any trouble.
Well at least you alerted Jordan about it or else he could have gotten into trouble..... 👍

It's not really an enforced law. So many products in the USA use lines like "Made with pride in the USA" specifically to advertise to the heartstrings of patriots across the nation, ironically the ones who believe that their flag shouldn't be disrespected by it being used for advertising.

If GTPlanet has never been warned about breaking this law by now, after more than 7 years, I don't think it would've ever happened.

Big Boss, I understand that having the "GTPlanet.net" logo on the American flag is offensive to you, but that doesn't mean it is offensive to everyone.

I'm also American, but I'm not offended by it. It's not causing harm to anyone, and GTPlanet isn't profiting by it. It's just a matter of personal opinion, and I choose to disagree with yours.

Just to clarify, the "Flag Code" is not enforced, and there was never any threat of legal action. I also didn't remove it because he was offended, but because I want to respect the flag and did not realize such a provision was in the guidelines for its use.
