I don't know what the hell the CD is called, all I know is that its pretty good.

Being the music master that I'm really not, I'm always open to new styles 'n such.
Avenged Sevenfold (Ax7 for short) was a band on that list of "new stuff"

One of the guitarists in my ex band was really into them, so he lemme borrow the CD to see if I liked it.

It's not hardcore, and its not quite metal. Everyone says its "Scream-o" I don't care what the hell its called, the riffs are hard, and the lyrics are well written, and make sense. I'm not saying the singer is all that great, being a lead singer myself, I find his vocals to be a little weak. But thats the only weak part of their music. People that like hardcore hate it, people that like metal hate it, but it's somewhere in the middle of those 2 genres.

I would reccomend this as a "DL First, Buy If you like it" CD.
Best song off the album: I Won't See You Tonight (Part 1)

Give it a Listen, I swear its ok!

*Author's note* This review was written while listening to Metallica's Black Album. So it's possible I gave Ax7 more credit than I should've

Sorry to bring up a VERY old thread but this is their best album of all time, maybe City Of Evil will be better but the album name is Waking The Fallen. If you like a mixture of punk, rock, and some metal then this is a good buy.

i hate this band.

anyone who calls them screamo needs to get shot in the face.

screamo = rites of spring, kaospilot, saetia, etc.

Bands that have "singers" who scream or grunt in the microphone suck bad. As soon as I hear it, it's turned off.

I figured lots of people wouldn't like this band. Oh well. It's all opinionated.

Definately lsiten to it and give the it a fair go before you knock it, A7X are pretty impossible to catagorise so dont. The drumming is not amazing, although its definetly got some amazing beats in there new album City of Evil. Both the basist, and both guitarist's are masters. Amazing twin solos.

City of Evil is probably better produced, and I think it is the better album, but Waking the Fallen has spent more time in my cd player than any other album.

I Wont See You Tonight Pt.1 is my number one favourite song, the best I've ever heard. IMO the greatest song ever.

Man oh man.

Before I say anything, I never thought I liked this band at all, probably quite the opposite. I hate "screamo" and and all of that - I think its totally unmusical and lame.

But I heard what I guess is their newest single called "Bat Country", and man, does it kick a ridiculous amount of ass. I mean, seriously: this song is hot, and I don't mean that in the Paris Hilton / Nicole Richie way. It blows me away.

Is the rest of the CD similar, to those who know?

yes, unlike Waking the Fallen that strayed in many directions City of Evil has a similar sound to the whoel album, and bat country is probably not the stand out track, although it includes one of the best solos. generally the majority of tracks are very good, definately give it a listen, 'Burn it Down', 'Trashed and Scattered' & 'MIA' are my personal favorites, 'Strength of the World' is also a Stand Out.

mmm..avenged is amazing...city of evil is a change for the better, they sound a bit more metal than the previous albums the only song that isnt really consistent is seize the day...and even then, it sounds amazing...waking the fallen was a really good album, gotta agree with cant see you tonight pt.1...unholy confessions is good stuff too, and so is second heartbeat...although the original version of second heartbeat sounded better imo...waking the fallen is the album that they really stood out..sounding the 7th trumpet wasnt all too amazing, but it paved way to their sound now...theyre dope..hehe i got my city of evil signed by them on the release day.

I absolutely hate this new brand of screemo metal garbage... The lyrics are cheesy and uninspired, the music is trite, and the vocals are just downright grating... I love metal, and this kind of band is ruining the metal scene, in my opinion...

;)

City Of Evil is like this because the lead singer has surgery on his vocals because of his screaming. Therefore I don't think we'll see any screaming tracks in awhile. I would know this because my sister's good friend was apart of the band before they went big but he left because he "didn't fit the scene"(tattoos and such) so he hangs out with them alot. I got City Of Evil a month early sent from the band themselves.

Listen to the new CD, and then tell me what you think of them.

You've listened to City of Evil? Which is clearly not screamo at all?

I just can't believe there's anyone that doesn't like this CD - especially on this board where metal has shown to be pretty popular.

I have been listening to metal for a long time... I just don't like that kind of metal... Sure it's not typical screemo, but it still has elements of it... Not to mention the underlying whiny cheesy lyrics... I don't like his voice at all... The music itself is not all that bad, but if it's not the full package, I just can't get into it... Not feeling it...

This brand of metal is very disconcerting to me... I don't like the direction it is taking the metal genre... It's a good thing there are bands like "Lamb of God" popping up that are still trying to keep alive the in your face, hard edged, deep growl, that I love so much... I like inovation, as well, which bands like "Mastodon" are bringing to the genre, while still being hard, fast, technical, and loud... It's the emoish style lyrics and melodic elements that I don't like... Bands like "Killswitch Engage", "Eighteen Visions", "Atreyu", "HIM", "Avenged Sevenfold", "As I Lay Dying", etc... just rub me the wrong way... If you're into it, great... More power to ya... It's just not for me personally...

Fair enough. 👍

I think I might actually see these guys the 30th. The band they're playing with really is screamo though, so I'm still deciding if I want to sit through the one to hear the other.

well Avenged Sevenfold is my personal fav band, but HIM? hmm, not really, Killswitch Engage is pretty darn good but i wouldn't really lump it in to the same catagory as any of those other bands there.

I thought that song was an insult to music, and Hunter S. Thompson. But hey, whatever floats boat.

"Bat Country" is on the Madden '06 Soundtrack. Although the solo part is great, I wasn't a big fan of the singing. The slow parts in the song, especially the ending, I liked. It didn't inspire me to download any of their other stuff though.

Im seeing them on Dec. 1 w/ Bullets and Octane...another band you guys should check out.. :sly:

Looks like I judged these guys too soon. I heard another song of theirs the other day, and I downloaded some when I got home, they totally rock. I'm a big fan or harmonized guitar, so they're perfect. :D My favorite song by them I have right now is Unholy Confessions.

Try Chapter Four, It's ungodly good.
Come on, of course I know that song. Madden 2004 soundtrack! :D Haha. On a side note, I love the orchesta part of The Wicked End.

EDIT - I'm kind of surprised to read through this thread and see some hating on this band. The band members themselves look punk or emo or something, but I can't see how you can argue with the bands style of music and talent. Clearly all three guitarists are great, the drummer is good, the vocals although probably the weakest part of the band, are still alright. I'd much rather listen to these vocals than the so called "deep growl" as Delphic Reason said it. ;)
