Ayrton Senna question (F1 in general)

I can't believe it. . . I finally got my Super license for GT3. Man, its so cool to finally be able to enter in the Like the Wind. I still don't have an F1 car yet (I recently had to start over due to Memory card errors), but I really want to do that race too.

That reminds me, today I was watching SPEED Channel and saw "Formula One Decade - the 1994 Formula One San Marino Gran Prix", the race that Ayrton Senna lost his life in. I was reading up on Senna and saw that someone wrote that the F094/S was his car. The '94' being 1994, the year he died. And the 'S' stands for Senna.

Is this true?

If anyone could confirm it for me, it would be appreciated. Thanks.



I just realized, this started out as a GT3 post, and became an F1 post. Sorry. It can be moved if needed.

Yes, the F094/S would have been Senna's Williams of 1994.

There actually is a system with the numbers. The first number is the number of cylinders the car had (with 0 equaling 10 cylinders and 6 equaling six). The next two numbers are the year in which the car was raced. Finally the letter at the end is the first letter of the car's driver's last name.
 
Yep its visually ayrtons car but performance wise its seriously over exaggerated. Comparing times in GT3 "monaco" to real life the F094/s is 14-15 seconds quicker than the real car. Actually i'm compaing Senna's last drive at monaco in 93' he was lapping 1'21's.
Currently I hold the #1 F094/s record at monaco with a 1'06.894. I reallly realllllllly hope that PD makes more of an effort to accurately represent the real F1's performance to the GT4 F1's.

The F687/s, F688/s, F090/s, F094/s are visually Ayrtons car. :) the F687/s in yellow is my visually favorite one since it almost resembles his camel sponsored lotus from 1987.

You know, this really is a shame in a way...

This subject is rather interesting and unfortunately, typical s.o.p. is likely to push this thread out of the gt3 forum and into the F1 forum that I never even look in. :odd:
Maybe I should try that from time to time.

I already knew about the names of the f1s in gt3, but I never actually took the time to think about senna and the f094/s... :wow: That is something else, and from now on when I drive that car I will actually think of him. Now that really is something like a legend. :bowdown:

As for the lap times... There will definately be a difference inherent to a video game world vs the real world.
1 part being the inability to account for the real world. (kinda hard to explain since it's such a simple concept. :dunce: )

Another part... the balls on a driver in gt3 vs the real world.

Flat out, I would never try full throttle, "balls to the wall" runs in any car, none the less an F1 at monaco, but in gt3 :trouble:

With my life on the line, I would never race at such break neck speeds, but in gt3 I am willing to crash 9 out of 10 times just to get a specific T1.

Anyway, nice subject... long live the spirit of f1 progress and speed. :D

Nope. San Marino Grand Prix held at the Imola circuit on 1st May 1994.
 
I saw that race live on TV. It was horrible. The upper "A" arm pierced through his faceshield and punctured his skull causing loss of brain fluid. It sucked!!!!!!

He also had the nations flag under his seat of another driver who died that same year to honner him if he won the race.
 
Just caught the F1 Decade showing on Speed Chanel last night. Powerful stuff. It really wakes you up to the reality of driving a car that fast. Hard to know what to say after watching it.

I think if sim tires had been an option on the F1’s, the lap times would have been much closer. Try running on worn-out tires it might prove to be more realistic.

The other driver was Roland Ratzenberger, a guy from Austria who was running is first F1 Grand Prix ever and who crashed during the qualifs.
There had been no deaths since 1986 when Elio de Angelis' car slided upside down during the friday practice.
 
It was Ratzenberger's first season, not his first race.

Elio de Angelis was killed at a test session at Paul Ricard, not at a GP. They shortened the track to miss out the section that he crashed in by the time of the French GP that year.
 
You're damn right.
Ratzenberger did not qualify in Brazil but finished 11th (and last) in Japan.
So Imola was his second race, and actually he never started the race.

Elio died indeed during a test session in May, the Grand Prix being in July.

He and Senna had been team-mates the year before, in 1985 on the famous black 'JPS' Lotus.
That doesn't make us younger !!!

It's coming up for the 10th anniversary of their deaths. It doesn't seem that long ago.

I will actually start to get depressed when I find someone here who wasn't born yet when Senna died. :D

Actually my first answer (which Daan proved partly wrong) was written from what I remembered.
For my second answer I sought help at www.f1.com :odd:

If I remember well there had been a problem with a Ferrari who ran over a mech during a pit stop. Was it at the same grand prix or at the next one ?
Ok, ok, I'm stopping now, we're just miles away from GT3...

Ask Famine about Cote on GT3. It is not exactly the same track as real life Monaco. It's supposedly a touch shorter, and the streets I've heard are not as wide as they are in the game. Famine would be able to confirm each of these if they are true, or what the actual truth is.

Plus GT3 isn't the best about completely accurately giving realistic lap times. It'll make some of the worse drivers in real life look as if they belong behind the seat of a modern Williams.
 
I'm aware of the GT3 monaco not being the real emulation of the real life Monaco. Still the fact is that PD over performed the F1's in GT3. PD has said that real life drivers have timed GT4 cars close to the real life cars all beit in GT4 but still if thats true then hopefully the F1's in GT will represent as close as programmingly possible to the real life F1's.

But they won't be as close as possible, unless they have Schumi, Kimi, JPM, etc. (or someone of that great of driving ability) doing the test driving for them and their respective cars or the respective cars they plan on using. There is always the difference between real-life and virtual reality; there is always going to be a difference; there are just too many variables to factor into a game to have it be absolutely realistic. Just as GoKents said, GT3 balls and real-life balls are totally different also. Certain attempts made on a game would probably never be attempted in real-life because of the sheer risk involved (there is no restart button in the real world, though we seem to keep trying to find one). The biggest problem I have with being able to legitimately model a Formula 1 car is the car's ability to always be able to squeeze more and more time out of the car--be it seconds, tenths, hundredths, thousandths, etc. Even if PD does get the programming of the F1 cars down to real-life specs, we will always try and beat whatever time there is out there--even if it means beating the time by .001 of a second. But even then, someone will come along who will completely destroy any record there is . . . it is just how games are. There is no limit to what people can do.

But after all of this rambling, I do agree with you though on PD needing to get the timing down to something more accurate to real-life specs. Some of the times we are capable of now are just insane.
 
in real life there are also other factors i doubt made it into GT3. here are some i just thought of that i dont think was mentioned.

- account of changes in track temperature in relation to change in day. has huge effect on tire performance in general.

- account of fuel load and fuel load changes

- condition of the track itself. luckily for us we dont have to worry about a "dirty" side of the track outside the race line, etc.

I heard rumors that this year may be the last year that San Marino GP will be held in the F1 calender to commemorate the '94 death of Senna.

I still have a new in box Tamiya F1 replica of Senna's immortal MP4/6. Its an R/C car so it makes for neat collectors item. This is the same as the F090/S.

I am really actually getting into Formula One this year (the first of many years to come where I will try to watch every race) I haven't been able to post a reply or anything since the 4th because I left for Italy and had no way of connecting to the internet, which was both good and bad considering I was addicted to GTPlanet.

I completely agree. I tried to get my dad to watch it because it was such a devastating weekend, but he was busy with work stuff. Anyway, I'm pretty sure that I sat there for at least the whole program without saying a word. It is probably only the second time a racing event left me speechless (the first being Dale Earnhardt's wreck in 2001 that took his life, and the only reason that that would be first is because I watched that live).
