B-Spec GT4 vs GT5 Question

First, let me say that I thought B-Spec was for losers in GT4. I thought it was weak and made the endurance races irrelevant and it made the prize cars extremely easy to get. I've always thought that it should be coupled to Arcade mode or something like that. I never used it, just read a bunch about it here and didn't want it contaminating my stats (100% A-Spec, 0% B-Spec, 100% Golds).

My question is, did they change B-Spec on GT5 so it can't be used to autopilot endurance races and you might actually need to pay attention or is it still possible to run for hours unattended?

It sounds like the newbies are frustrated with it because it doesn't autopilot smartly at the lower levels or something.

I've read the threads but I can't find a competent assessment of the differences with B-Spec with respect to GT4 and GT5.

B-spec is tied to a completely different leveling system so completely races in B-spec wont effect your A-spec progress.

Thanks for the quick response. But, are the funds and/or your garage co-mingled?

That said, if they are then is there an easy path to getting prize cars? As opposed to, driving the miles in A-Spec to earn them the hard way?

Yes, the prize money and cars are combined to 1 profile. However, the prize cars on the B-Spec races are different than the ones from the A-Spec ones.

So does that mean you have to use B-Spec to get some specific prize cars?

The main beef I had with GT4 BSp was that newbies could get the F1 car by putting a driver on autopilot in an endurance race. That was totally weak, especially compared to using A-Spec to win a 24-hour marathon.

But it sounds like progress has been made and it is not just a simple autopilot feature anymore, right?

Yup. Full prize list can be found here: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=134047

It's still auto-pilot but I haven't really had a chance to use it much.

It is not the same as GT4 big difference is that there is no fast forward.

OK, I didn't even remember about that. So, basically, they took out some functionality that was the original gist of my concern that it enabled lame players to have a fast path to achievements that would otherwise be difficult to get in ASpec?

I guess that's where some of the sniping and complaining is coming from now in the BSpec threads? That's a good thing in my opinion.

But, the best thing that they could have done was coupled it to arcade mode or given it an entirely separate reference mode. It seems now that because of the funds and garage coupling it still provides a fast path to getting things that are otherwise a bunch more difficult to get, like fast cars?

It is not the same as GT4 big difference is that there is no fast forward.

Well not exactly easy to get, since you still need the B-spec driver to have a fast car with. And he needs to level up the same way as you so he has to go through the grinding process as well, and a slow driver in fast car in B-spec can still very much lose the race if you don't sit there and nag him to death(as can be attested by many here).

Its kinda like the GT grinding without the actual fun of driving, or the easy gratification of GT4 in "stealing" the fast cars...

Worse of both worlds really...

I just started play B-Spec racing on GT5, I had never even given it a thought in GT4. I had a heck of a time just trying to get my driver to win a race in B-Spec until I gave him a car that could easily beat the competition with. But that isn't fool proof, some tracks my drive can't even complete a lap without spinning the car out going from 1st to 12th in a matter of seconds. I still have to baby sit him on corners where he seems to spin out, slowing him down keeping him calm which is pretty bad for a professional driver.

I assume as his skill and experience levels rises he will need less instructions from me.

That's what I thought. My driver refused to pass... anyone... ever. So I recently added a second driver and he can pass... a little. The baby sitting drives me nuts. I end up just making the car ridiculous so he can win easily and I can go do something else.

No, you can't just set it on autopilot like you could in GT4. Your driver will get angry, and will make a lot of stupid mistakes. But WTF is it to you if someone uses B-Spec to get some nice credits by selling of a good prizecar? Do you honestly think that people have the same amount of time to play the game as you do? People like you are arrogant and need to quit worrying about the "newbies" as you call them, and just play the game.

My B Spec driver isn't TOO terrible, although he seems to have a complete mental breakdown when he runs on Laguna. Can't manage the sports truck race on Laguna in a 750+ HP F150 Lightning? Dolt.

Haha, I had no trouble with Laguna for the truck series, it was Daytona that my B-Spec driver had problems with... He would brake way too much.

So theres no way to trade off on the endurance races and have your b-spec do a stint, then you do a stint, then b-spec?

My B-Spec drive can't resist baking the rear tires on the straight aways resulting in spinning the car out.

Maybe he is just overly excited that GT5 finally got released and just can resist! ;)

You're misunderstanding my point. I like being challenged and I'm not talking about a contrived challenge, either. If someone gets 100% golds then as far as I know there is no fast path to get there without reverse-engineering the code and that is something to be worthy of praise. BSpec amounts to nothing more than a cheat in my opinion. That's an opinion and has nothing to do with arrogance.

All I was advocating for was a clear separation between ASpec and BSpec. 100% ASpec requires this in order to be meaningful in my opinion. In GT4 if you say 100% ASpec you always have to give the caveat that you are 0% BSpec for it to be meaningful. That shouldn't be necessary.

I have only been playing B-Spec races when I am unable to find a used car that I need to complete an A-Spec race.
