I'm a hige gt fan and just start to research about Gt4. When researching I heard things about this B-spec mode that is going to be added to gran turismo 4. What is this B-spec mode really and is it used through out the game or what.

I think there's a huge B-Spec mode thread on these forums somewhere.

You'd probably get more information from it than what any of us can recall. Just do a search for it.

Ok so i went to IGN.com and read about GT4 and about the B-spec mode and I have come to a conclusion that it has It's pros and cons, but mostly cons to me. the way that IGN puts it is that B-spec is the mode that You race in all the time not just arcade or certian races but the whole game :yuck:. I'm not sure if that is true or not but if it is I don't like it. B-spec is all about Strategy where you comand a racer this isn't racing. How Ign put it was "B-spec mode basically allows you to practice race strategy by isolating strategic decisions from actual driving." From IGN.com. By commanding this racer you can tell him/her, maybe I'll just declare that the racer is an it, it when to pass another car or telling that racer to be more or less agressive. In my opion this is not racing at all. You can isolat strategic move while racing and if you can't right now you will learn as you become a more experienced driver. okay so I expressed my hate for the B-spec mode now let me express a little love for it with a mix of mild hate. So the B-spec mode has a better AI developed just for it since there is less info being processed and that it simulates a more realistic drving experience but this is where some more hat comes in. It is not a more realistic driving experience because your not driving. that all I have to say, if I say any more I might end in the hospital.

Oh come on Code my mom would probably like to use B-spec mode...but other than that, yea it is garbage. They should just sell a 40 dollar game with out B-spec :)

B-Spec mode is intended for ' casual gamers '. Or at least that's how Sony put it in one of the more recent .asx movies.

If you're a graphics whore, you'll use B-Spec mode to watch a race with your faviurite car from the replay camera angles without the need for racing first. One of the interviews with KY mentions that the above reason was his motivation for adding this into GT4.

Hiya! :D :O  Meow! (='.'=)

I think B-Spec is very convenient though. 👍 I can do homework and chores at the same time while the AI can drive for me! :O It may not interesting to most of us but it will for others who don't play as much.

10 p says b spec is utter crap.

I wanna race thank you very much.
Hey man I wanna race too I never said I didnt. And what is "10 p"? B-Spec is kinda cool since its a bit like TOCA and Instead of you being told you are telling the other guy.

Exactly, I'll be able to get races done in the game even while I'm not actually playing! I'm going to love it for that.

Hey, it'll be better than driving the Roadster Endurence for myself!

b-spec mode is an important part of the game. He's trying to show us that racing isn't just about. punch the gas and be faster around every corner there is. In real life if you don't have strategy, you will use your tires faster, fuel faster, your car will get more wear and tear. You need a gameplan, you need consistancy, and you need to keep your calm. Sometimes it's better to let a faster car to pass you, he may just wind up driving too agressively and use up his resources too fast and break down later, run out of fuel, have too little grip in the tires, etc.

He wants to show us that REAL racing isn't like a video game, there's more to it than mindlessly driving as hard as you can ALL the time.

I daresay this is aimed at people like you, kev, who don't use strategy. I'm all for it, it'll add a new laer to the series (provided it stays, of course).

Kaz will have thought of this. I doubt you'll ba able to do all the races in B-Spec. If you can, it'll probably won't count as much towards the overall percentage completed (you'll have to do the race yourself to get the full percentage).

All this will be a feature of the game when you drive the car, too.
GT4 will not be about mashing the gas and being as fast as possible, the physics engine will see to that, and tires and fuel will also be affected by how you drive, they are not only in B Spec mode.
You will have to learn all the relevant strategies you mention, and learn to race that way when driving.

Do you Race, I think its already been mentioned that B-Spec mode will feature through out all the races in GT4.
It will be a selection choice prior to each race, and allows non hardcore gamers to have a way to progress through the game as equally as those that race.

While we have seen it as a choice before a race, bear in mind that all the races we've seen in videos and the like have all been Arcade Mode. There's still no indication as to whether B-Spec will be part of Simulation Mode or not. What's the point of earning money and cars if you never actually drive? While most of us will no doubt drive 99% of the time, there are some out there who won't.

So because I think a glorified replay mode is crap, I have no strategy...

ok....

the only used I can see for it is the old "oh look a thrilling 400 lap enduro, glorified replay mode AI, do my race while I do something interesting". Who knows, I may be wrong, it has happened before ;)

If it's confined to arcade mode only, then it officially sucks ;)

Kaz in the completion press conference video, confirmed that B spec mode was a way for those that are more interested in the cars and less so in actually driving them, to progress through the game.

It will be an alternative way to play through the game for less hardcore fans.

He was talking about "TV Mode", I think, not B-Spec. Odd that TV Mode hasn't been mentioned around here yet... hm.

TV mode and B-spec's the same, right..? cos the difference is that the mode has got a new, official name... that's why noone even care about this tv mode.. it was mentioned like a couple of years ago, when GT4 was confirmed.. same mode, new name.. as I recall..

Actually, it was in an interview in OPM about two months ago, the last of their "Track Gran Turismo" series. The difference, as I understand it, is that TV Mode is just an exhibition mode, not a race. Basically, the computer takes your car on a Free Run around a course, by itself, with no control over what the car does like B-Spec has. B-Spec is still a race, just viewed from Replay angles, with half the screen covered by various controls and indicators. TV Mode is just a replay. No controls, no screen clutter. According to KY, it was designed for the fans who sometimes "drive a certain car on a certain track, just to watch the replay."
