backing up ps3 to another ps3?

after my 60gb ps3 keeps getting the ylod ive bought my self a slim, and it came to day (alot earlier than i thought) i bought a external drive caddy to back my ps3 data to and for soem reason my ps3 and pc cant see the drive they pick up that its there though as the install the drivers for it.

my question is can i plug a usb cable from my old ps3 to my new one and back it up that way?

You need to format the external hard drive to fat32, click here for a guide. Also you could just transfer the files to the new PS3 by using an Ethernet cable, click here for guide.

i remember doing the memory card cheat on ps2 or ps1

copy the cards then sell the cars and keep re-doing it

managed to do it with the ethenet cable, first time took a hour and half to get to 63% then it ylod again so fixed it yet again and deleted everything off it apart from the gt5 save, did it in 6 mins. bye bye fat ps3 hello slim.
