Banned User Log?

Just thinking...

It rarely happens, but occasionally I'll encounter someone who has been banned and wonder why they were banned, so I waste a few minutes of my day trying to find out.

Would it be possible to have a log of banned users - and their infractions - posted somewhere, maybe in Announcements, to save us curious people and allow us to do something more useful with those few minutes, like play a couple of hands of Mah-Jong or have a pint?

I like doing that too. I'm too damn nosy :sly:

I spent ages trying to find out why sUn got banned the other day. Not only would it help us nosy people, but it would humilliate those who have been banned. A kind of beyond the grave punishment.
 
And sometimes people put the title "banned" and they may not even be banned at all! I think it's a good idea too.
 
I think the word banned is actually blocked as a user title. People either say banned with a special e or banninated. I've seen bangled too :lol:
 
Thank god im not alone..
While I would like it, I dont think the Mods would be too happy having to add all the information when they could be using those minutes more wisley.

(I think I spent almost 30 minutes figuring out why sUn got banned)
 
It could quickly become a list of notoriety though, with people trying to get on the list as many times as possible under slightly different usernames. Logging all the banned users might be seen as a competition for some...

Oh, I never knew that. So members that actualy say "banned" are really banned? Well I have the need to know why even more now.

Edit: Well I'm not nosy or anything, it's like what Famine said, you just don't want to keep thinking why on earth was he/she banned.
 
I would like that too. I never found out why that Malasyan guy was banned, I think his user name was under18carbon or something like that.

Actually, he's on temporary ban at his own request. He's got a tough year at school right now and he wanted as few distractions as possible. He'll be back sometime around the end of the year; he knows where to contact me when he wants the ban to be lifted.

The Ban Log idea is a good one. We'll talk it over and see how it can be implemented. If it is, it will probably only cover bannings from this point forward, rather than include the ones already in effect.
 
Yeah,including all currently banned members would be impossible, unless very recently banned.
 
I want the moderating here to be as "transparent" as possible, but this could serve as an excellent way to set an example for other users. We're talking it over and should have something like this up shortly.

I think this is a good idea.

Also sometimes the thread that got the user banned is deleted so even when you do try and check why they were banned, the evidence is gone. with a ban log its saves effort and confusion.

I'd love to nosey through a log of banned people and all their infringements. It would help me see at what point i could get banned. lol
 
It would also tell you at what point you over step the line.. :)

And as for people trying to get onto the list as many times as possible, is it possible to ban the IP?
 
Yes, IP bans are not a problem, but if the thread is abused like that it will be taken down. That's my biggest reservation about it.
 
Mine too - but the format Duke posted is fine. It says who, when and why without going into detail. Perfect.
 
This is a great idea. Something that all boards should do, IMHO. 👍 I like the banned log stickied up there, and hope we don't get too many names on it before the end of the year.
 
I like the idea of tar's saying banned for whatever reason. If i see somebdy idiotic on my forum and they get banned, i use the avatar appropriately :sly:

I've seen this in other forums and whenever some notable was banned, wondered if gtp would be better off with it. Nice to see it up so quickly.

I think it would be kind of pointless to list people who have been banned before x number of posts or x number of days. Cut down on the work over people who join and are instantly starting trouble.

If you were talking about PS getting banned, that reason wasnt really controversial it was pretty stupid what he did....
