I thought I read somewhere that the PS2 can function as a cd burner as well, though I don't quite see how. I also don't really understand why the colored PS2's don't have the i-link port. I wonder why Sony decided to do that? My brand new black PS2 (bought it a couple weeks ago) has the i-link port.......

Sony dropped i-link(IEEE-1394) because is was a limited digital interface. Sony could not allow for both a copy protection program called HDCP, and future High-definition signals to travel through it at the same time.

Since music piracy was such a problem, they decided not to help the piracy of furture media, such as HD movies. Sony will now use USB2.

Non-black PS2s are already for sale in several countries. Europe is the latest to get the silver version - although as LoudMusic points out, the controller ports and on/off switch and eject button are still black.

The silver PS2, this white PS2 and every other new PS2 has improved DVD playback and integrated IR for a DVD controller, but no iLink port, meaning if you buy a new PS2 for GT4, you can't do anything like the Dutch Driving Days anymore. Okay, so there's the internet connection, but it's not quite the same as played 5 other drivers in the same room...

Zer0 was getting at it, but not quite the correct responce.

They basically are replacing the use of the iLink with the use of a network adaptor. In the end it comes out much better. Ethernet travels a much longer distance, is way less expensive, and provides the ability to link across the Internet quite easily.

Look at XBox. Halo allows linking four XBoxes on a network. This has nothing to do with the Internet / XBox Live. It's just a simple network connection.

I have the v9 (PS2+) same as silver edition but black and it plays dvd+rws perfectly! The I link was sometimes used to connect several ps2s to play in a network but I would prefer to play a network of ps2s via the ethernet

my Ps2 was the release version, and it plays DVD-R's and stuff just fine as well

that white is pretty cool.....saddening how we dont' get any of the cool ps2 colours in north america!

and the memory cards! man, I wish i had a silver ps2..

I have the original PS2 aswell like 2weeks after launch... when I first got the online adaptor my brother called up Sony to see if it would work and the person at sony was shocked that we still have an original and it works perfect too, I had the disk read error problem but i just bought a lens cleaner and not its perfect, anyways wish the colors came to america too but i guess i'll just wait for the PS3 to come out and hopefully it'll come out in silver instead of black because it would deff look better..
