I don't know which one to get and I don't want both.
I have had MW2 and I enjoyed it, but I have never played any Battlefield.
I am pretty average at FPS and I don't want to play a game where I have to plan tactics too much.
Which one do you think is better?

Battlefield looks better to my and has got better review scores, but I'm not sure about the amount of time is spent in vehicles. I think I prefer battles on foot.

I don't play any of these games but this discussion came up in party chat.

The general consensus from them was that BF was the better choice and that they predicted a migration from MW3 to BF in a few weeks/months.

As I say, I'm no expert on these matters.
The guys who were talking are however veterans of these types of games.

Take that for what it is mate.

MW3 is fast paced close combat whereas BF3 tends to be slower and the maps are huge. The key to success in BF3 is teamwork so if you want to do your own thing and not really care about helping anyone, MW3 is probably your best choice. I personally don't consider the two to be comparable, comparing them isn't like comparing FIFA to PES, it's more like comparing, say, MGS to Uncharted... One is very direct, in your face and requires reaction speed over planning where the other is slower, more considered and sometimes requires a lot of thought.

That's not to say either game is better than the other, I haven't played MW3 so I don't know, but I do love BF3. I just feel like you could own both and not have much overlap in how they play. I will say that if you liked MW2 you will most likely enjoy MW3, though.

Oh and vehicles are entirely optional, my brother has played 16 hours of BF3 online and has spent roughly 5 minutes in a tank and tried to fly a chopper once but gave up when it didn't exactly work out, yet he is quite often MVP or at least high up on the scoreboards. Good chopper pilots with good gunners are basically the only scary vehicle to come up against if you're infantry, tanks are too but they're much easier to avoid. Choppers can be everywhere at once...

In MW3 you're Rambo, in BF3 you're a soldier in a squad. MW3 is more pick up and play action and you can get away with not being a team player, BF3 requires more tactics, has vehicles, bigger levels and it is harder to actually hit people with the weapons (bullet physics, recoil etc).

Both games are fairly easy to pick up and get into though, my vote will go with BF3 but they are different playstyles. I don't use a mic in BF3, I mostly just join up to random games, kill some people and have my fun then move on.

Ok, I don't have a mic so teamwork on BF3 could be a problem.

I'm not able to use a mic a lot of the time as I play late at night and can't wake people up and I don't have a problem. It is better with a mix though.

Well whatever it is I will be playing it on PS3

I play it on ps3 and its a blast. Better on PC though because you get 64 players that way.

I would never recommend a game from Activision, but there are also other reasons why I think BF3 is the better choice. Better sound, more advanced tech, vehicles, destruction, more immersion etc. BF3=war game, CoD=arcade shooter (although both aren't realistic).

I agree with everything they said 👍

If you want to buy mw3 I'll sell you my copy (was in my xbox for 1 hour)

You can't compare the two at all.
Well, the graphics are great, but it has some issues with aliasing and stuff like that on consoles, so it's sometimes hard to see enemies in the distance. But considering what's going on on the screen and all the effects, it looks awesome.

Based on what you say about being average at FPS and don't want a game with too much tactics then I'd say go with MW3. CoD games are definitely geared towards a more casual gamer.

You liked MW2?
Buy 3, it's EXACTLY the same.
Check YouTube for side-by-side comparisons.
Battlefield has vehicles and way bigger maps and better graphics tho...

To me COD is a game of what little kids imagine war like... Like crazy things like RPGing people in the head, jumping from exploding rooftops, or have fake contraptions to kill people with...

See if you can play both online/offline somewhere and see which one you prefer before making your purchase. Hearsay can only go so far, as both games have their positives and negatives.

But see, those things can also be a negative. I got bored of BF3 really quickly with very few people to shot at and getting killed by a tank I just disabled.

MW3, judging from what I've seen doesn't look that bad at all either. And if it at least looks as good as MW2 that's good enough.

Battlefield might have bigger maps. But I sometimes get lost in a MW3 map, roaming around for a good minute

I just don't care for vehicles and planes and taking forever to master them, probably taking out more teamplayers than doing good.

I loved battlefield bad company 2 and enjoyed the beta for battfield 3 but for some reason i always end up playing COD, it's much more of a pick up and play and that suits me better.

I'll pick up BF3 when i get bored of MW3 as i can't play two diffferent types of FPS at the same time, i tried it before and i end up pressing wrong buttons and trying to spot people with select which obviously only brings up the score on COD games and that's the split second it takes to get killed on COD games.

Both great games in their own right tho.

I'm not sure which is better, but I'm really impressed with MW3. Call me a noob if you want. The sound in the game is quite disappointing, though. BF has fantastic sound.

MW3 and BF3 cannot be compared directly in my opinion. They are just so different. If you're a CoD fan then MW3 is for you obviously. You should be well used by now to being ripped off for what is essentialy the same game repackaged every year.

BF3 again feels a lot like BFBC2, so there's nothing new there either. But while COD may get new kills streaks, in BF3 you can for the first time fly jets! Not particularly brilliant, but you CAN fly jets!! The main difference between the two is pacing I would say. MW3 is faster, but not particularly furious. BF3 makes you think a bit more.

BF3 also added a new game mode in the way of team deathmatch. Nothing CoD hasnt done before, but gives CoD fans the smaller maps and twitch style gameplay they obviously prefer. While CoD only has small maps however, BF3 can go from TDM to full scale warfare on ridiulously big maps in an instant. Rush mode is why you buy Battlefield.

Personally my preference lies in BF. Getting a killstreak on Cod is adrenaline pumping. And then you're rewarded with a helicopter that destroys anyone you point it at. Great fun! In battlefield, your only reward is winning. But when you take the win by co ordinating your attack the reward is just SO sweet.

My favourite moment in BF was an attack on an MCOM point in rush mode. I was a chopper pilot, and I had one squad member and two other team members in my chopper. My squad mate was in a tank, and another squad mate in a Hummer. He was also carrying three passengers. The attack was planned and excecuted as follows. First I flew to the taget building and circled the building. My gunners took out or suppressed any ground troops. When I gave the all clear, the tank fired upon the building from safe distance blowing a hole in the side of the building. Simultaniously the Hummer raced to the building as I hovered above it very low. All troops dismounted both vehicles to enter the building. Helicoper troops through the skylight and down the stairs, Hummer troops through the hole in the wall to the ground level. There was resistance and a few casualties inside the building but the team planted explosives and took out the target. Troops then mounted up again and my gunners provided cover fire for the escaping Humvee.

Pure. Gaming. Genious.

My first kill streak in CoD is but a distant memory. I dont think I'll ever return to that franchise. I borrowed MW3 from my brother and it just confirmed that fact. Thats not to say you and millions of others wont enjoy it. For me, putting up with lag and campers is not worth the enjoyment. BF3 has zero lag and dedicated servers too. And campers could be sitting for hours, since the maps are so huge ;)

My bf3 experience would be better if I knew people I could form squads with. At best, the team forms unofficial squads on the go that work towards capturing a single objective from their favorite hiding spots and then they all go their own separate ways to wherever else they want to go next. Repeat as needed.

My best scores have actually coming around with an assault kit, reviving everyone I can, help capping points where available, and spamming med-packs in known active areas ... Basically running around doing my own thing. Rogue medic? lol I've never got mvp, but I've gotten 2nd and 3rd mvp. I have gotten the highest score on my team before like that, but then the other team high scorers were in the 6-7000 point range and I've never broken 4000.

I tried being a squad leader but they didn't listen.

I think I have everything unlocked for the m416 and working towards unlocking the F2000. I just unlocked the scar-h for engineer and c4 for support.

All the proof you need

I killed two choppers with my tank........so sweet (I was driving the tank)

to be honest, I couldn't believe I hit the first one. I saw another one after killing the first one and aimed in front of it and it was like the 4th of July when it hit the chopper.

I've done it once and it is extremely satisfying. The zoom optics are fantastic on the tanks. I hit a loaded Venom on Caspian :)

My buddy was in the tank with me on the machine gun and we were rofl, then I shot the other one and we literally were rofl.

I haven't unlocked that yet :grumpy:

Spot on in regards to BF3. I have both, and I'll say this: the MP maps on MW3 are HORRIBLE. Many seem like random pieces of older maps spliced together. The randomness.... is astounding. No structure. Nothing about any of the maps to make them memorable. I've almost played enough to prestige, and I couldn't tell you the name of four of the maps (out of something like 12?), and since the maps are so small, you will get shot in the back every 15 seconds. I've played all the CODs, and these maps are by far the worst. And I blew through the campaign in 4 hours. I would recommend BF3.
