I always played either Engineer or Assault, mainly because I don’t like LMGs and also playing Medic starts to get annoying when the alarm telling you someone nearby needs reviving keeps going off whilst I’m busy trying to fend off half of the United States Army

Pretty sure it will do that regardless of class. Classes aren't weapon restricted but they do have modes that will force it like traditional BF games.
 
I think what also doesn’t help is I’m a COD veteran, so I’m more focused on getting kills (And blowing up buildings because it’s funny)
I’m trying to get better at that though

Thats the beauty of Battlefield. You can go for kills only or focus on revising, resupplying, tank or aircraft fighting, the list goes on. I find changing classes changes the game dramatically and keeps it fresh for much longer than the standard COD 6v6 does.
 
The new update has a lot of good fixes.

Playing as an Assault or Support is my go to right now. With the assault class I like to place a sneaky spawn beacon somewhere on their side of the map and just attack them from behind. The ladder is also super useful, especially on the city maps.

With support I basically just camp the front line objectives with an lmg, 2 deployable covers, smoke grenades and an ammo box. I don't like the belt fed lmgs because of the reload, so I use the DRS-IAR. The RPKM also seems pretty good.

Iam crap. Also not a fan of the small maps- so iam just staying in tanks so i dont get killed every 2 mins. Thats how i get my enjoyment
 
The disbanding of lobbies is the worst part of this kind of matchmaking. This is why the server browser is so much better for this series.

You can equip carabine for every class even in closed weapons servers. M4A1 is one of the best guns in game.
